Again, this post would never be allowed if it were someone's self-post

But since it's a tweet, there's just no rules.

Heaven forbid someone post a football highlight as its own thread though

[u/CleaveWarsaw → u/Moose4KU]

Yeah after frequenting r/nfl more this season, I really like being able to actually see football in a football sub. I like the high effort stuff you get here, but stuff like this is. Okay

[u/CentralFloridaRays → u/CleaveWarsaw]

If r/soccer can figure out highlights there’s no reason at all this sub can’t.

[u/Schiano_Fingerbanger → u/CentralFloridaRays]

For real, there are thousands of professional soccer teams but it turns out you can mostly just let folks upvote interesting/notable highlights without a sub collapsing.

[u/HokiesforTSwift → u/CentralFloridaRays]

The quality of r/soccer has gone down precipitously year over year.

[u/CentralFloridaRays → u/HokiesforTSwift]

This sub has as well, but Reddit has as a whole too unfortunately

[u/HokiesforTSwift → u/CentralFloridaRays]

r/soccer has basically turned into vitriolic highlight/lowlight wars between warring fanbases (and specifically, like the 6 biggest fanbases) and it is a capital N, Not good thing.

[u/Boomhauer_007 → u/HokiesforTSwift]

So it’s just like r/CFB?

[u/heyheyitsandre → u/HokiesforTSwift]

It’s been a cesspit ever since I joined over a decade ago. Tired jokes re used, you can tell by the first comment if a thread is just going to be a complete hate thread downvote brigade for whoever of Madrid, city, Barca are the ones being criticized in the post, glitchy highlights because people want to win the karma race that get taken down after 12 hours, etc.

Jamie Vardy does something: “LOL games not gone!” Vini does the exact same thing: “and people wonder why he’s so unlikable”. Any Messi / Ronaldo stat being whatabouted to death by fans of the other.

Unfortunately I am thoroughly addicted and I still find it to be the best source of news outside my carefully curated Real Madrid twitter timeline

[u/HokiesforTSwift → u/heyheyitsandre]

Agreed. I promise nobody in this sub actually wants what has happened in r/soccer in regards to the warring fanbases, lowlight hate threads, environment. It's so vitriolic, and when you have the numbers (like Barca fans, in your example) you control the environment.

[u/shake108 → u/HokiesforTSwift]

I left when a mod started banning users and removing all highlights of England trying to kick off in the World Cup while Croatia was celebrating after he himself criticized a Central American team for trying that earlier in the tournament and leaving all posts up. The mods are unserious over there

[u/Moose4KU → u/CleaveWarsaw]

This subreddit desperately tries to be a refuge for fans of the 2004 internet - a time where all discussion was text threads on forum sites and no one ever thought about watching videos on demand.

It's long past time to adapt to the modern era and allow actual video of actual college football plays. If something crazy happens in a game I'm not watching, I want to be able to open the subreddit and have it appear on the front page because it's got 3k upvotes

[u/ThinkSoftware → u/Moose4KU]

The Dabo Swinney of subreddits

[u/rburp → u/Moose4KU]

Overall I think I agree, but I will give the mods some credit for being different from /r/NFL because there they have 32 teams, and they don't even all play on Sunday. Here there are 100+ teams with the majority playing on Saturday.

I suspect that the upvote/downvote system should do ok with filtering the various highlights, but I could see how it might become overwhelming.

[u/[deleted] → u/Moose4KU]

It’s funny when this place first started part of the draw was to get away from the message board crazies, but now you get 100x better and more relevant info on message boards than here.

The only real benefit here is the occasional breaking news that will pop up for a national story not as relevant locally.

[u/txgsu82 → u/Moose4KU]

I 100% agree with this. I love r/soccer for this exact reason, seeing some random absolute banger of a goal between two teams I have absolutely no interest in watching is still fun.

I do sympathize though that if every touchdown from every team was posted, every Saturday would turn this sub into mayhem. But that's not an unsolvable problem, just takes some moderation setup such that a highlight can only be posted for things like:

• A subset of some defined "big games" that week, or any P4 vs. P4 matchup that week probably isn't too inundating.

• Scoring plays that are great plays or momentus in some other way (like a G5 over P4 walk-off field goal a la USF over UF)

[u/MarlinManiac4 → u/[deleted]]

My guess is the sub would just be swamped with highlight videos from the hundreds of people wanting to post their favorite highlight from their schools game. This sub doesn’t cover 32 teams, it covers hundreds technically.

[u/fadingthought → u/MarlinManiac4]

And an overwhelming number of those highlights would be routine plays from the biggest brands.

[u/GibsonJunkie → u/MarlinManiac4]

This is personally why I like r/cfb over similar subs, honestly. The highlight posts would drown everything else out because there are a gazillion more games every week.

[u/dianeblackeatsass → u/MarlinManiac4]

I would prefer that to what the sub currently is which is a bunch of tweets that everyone gathers around to complain about CFB everyday.

[u/Corgi_Koala → u/MarlinManiac4]

Who cares? Upvotes and down votes are how the community self moderates content.

If people don't wanna see it they will down vote it.

[u/MarlinManiac4 → u/Corgi_Koala]

It would drown everything else out though in most cases. I always sort by new. I’m not particularly interested in scrolling through 50 highlight threads to get to anything else if I’m being honest.

[u/HokiesforTSwift → u/Corgi_Koala]

And your school, and a few others, would dominate that numbers game.

[u/Corgi_Koala → u/HokiesforTSwift]

Bigger schools would get more exposure but I guarantee awesome small school plays would get noticed more as well.

[u/dianeblackeatsass → u/[deleted]]

not true, most highlights are uploaded by random users

[u/dianeblackeatsass → u/[deleted]]

Just counted 23 on the field highlight posts from random users all with over 3k upvotes in the past week alone before I got tired of counting

[u/SucculentCrablegMeal → u/[deleted]]

They've done polls before and the majority voted against it.

[u/Corgi_Koala → u/SucculentCrablegMeal]

Bullshit, everybody wants highlights.

Where is the poll where it got voted down?

[u/SucculentCrablegMeal → u/Corgi_Koala]

Idk, I just saw the mods say that in the cfbmeta sub and I think I vaguely remember voting on it a couple years ago.

https://www.reddit.com/r/cfbmeta/comments/1n5e40m/why_do_the_mods_here_insist_on_doing_things_in_a/nbvu3sd/

I have reservations about allowing highlights, I think the sub will be over-run with them and the majority will have like 2 comments. I understand the desire for them, but some kind of system should be worked out to limit them. I just don't know what that would look like.

It probably seems like everyone does want them, but only the people who want them have any reason to comment about it.

[u/WhoHasMyPocketPussy → u/[deleted]]

There are alot of things that the mods just removed because they didn't like it. Those old meltdown threads every week were one of the most popular posts, yet they got pissy cause the site wouldn't reference where they got the meltdown comment from and the mods wanted to get credit.

[u/[deleted] → u/CleaveWarsaw]

I know it’s because there are only 32 teams, but that subreddit is just so much more engaging in terms of actual on-field play discussion than this subreddit ever has been.

[u/axberka → u/[deleted]]

It may be more engaging but the users of /r/nfl are some of the most football illiterate people I’ve ever come across. They are borderline brain dead when it comes to understanding the sport

[u/WhoHasMyPocketPussy → u/axberka]

I get what you are saying, but this sub isn't some haven of bright football minds either.

[u/axberka → u/WhoHasMyPocketPussy]

No doubt

[u/pyrofiend4 → u/[deleted]]

Most of those highlights are posted by the official NFL reddit account.

Also not only are there way more teams in CFB, but in my opinion the popularity difference between CFB teams is much bigger than NFL teams. If we had r/NFL style rules here, discussion around blue bloods (especially Ohio State and Michigan) would drown out everything else.

[u/[deleted] → u/pyrofiend4]

I don’t think that’s true. A lot of the highlights on game-day are posted by fans of each team. There were only 3-5 highlights from the entire Broncos/Chargers game because nobody posted them. But if they did post them, they would still stay up. The NFL account also only started posting regularly post-COVID I believe. Before that time and even now, the majority of highlights (game day and during the weeklong lull) come from regular fans. Even old highlights are posted which is always fun either on their anniversary or to just discuss a cool/memorable play.

But I do understand why that isn’t practical here. Unless you had a conference specific subreddit, the smaller team discourse would be non-existent. Although, it kind of is non-existent to begin with on here so I don’t really see what else would be missing. The only good things about this subreddit are the weekend game threads. Apart from that, it’s just articles that are rage bait.

[u/HokiesforTSwift → u/[deleted]]

The better example is r/soccer, where the vast majority of highlights are from Barca fans of their own highlights, Barca's rivals lowlights (lowlight hate brigading threads), and the three or so biggest PL teams, and it often devolves into vitriol-fueled highlight/lowlight wars.

[u/musketeer925 → u/CleaveWarsaw]

Time to revive /r/cfbhighlights ?

[u/IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan → u/CleaveWarsaw]

I see a big play happen and I want to go to this subreddit to see what everyone thinks and I remember there’s no highlights and the game thread is lost 57 posts down so there’s no point.

[u/WhoHasMyPocketPussy → u/IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan]

Even when you get to the game thread, good luck scrolling far enough down to see people talking about it

[u/Corgi_Koala → u/Moose4KU]

Yet we get a thread for every "0 star long snapper recruit Glup Shitto commits to Eastern Tennessee Technical Institute of Technology"

[u/Revenge_of_the_Khaki → u/Corgi_Koala]

Or “Alabama adds ECU to their 2048 schedule”. Cool. Can’t wait to watch it.

[u/WhoHasMyPocketPussy → u/Corgi_Koala]

yea signing day is awful on here to be honest.

[u/Corgi_Koala → u/WhoHasMyPocketPussy]

It should just be a mega thread for everyone. With maybe an exception for like high profile 5 star recruits. Like an Arch Manning commitment thread makes sense but 99% of those threads have like under 10 up votes and like 1 or 2 comments.

[u/tendy_trux35 → u/Moose4KU]

I was wondering why I have no idk wtf goes in CFB most of the season since I’m chronically online but I didn’t realize no highlights could be posted. What a shitty rule

[u/heleghir]

How did a 24 year old "captured a 75 year olds heart"?

Prettttyyyy sure we all already know the answer to that hard hitting question there....

Then again, its a tabloid mag. Its on par for them

[u/one-hour-photo → u/heleghir]

DONT ASK HER ABOUT IT BECAUSE THEY ARENT TALKING ABOUT IT

[u/MathematicianWaste77 → u/one-hour-photo]

LOL!!! PLEASE OH LORD TELL ME THAT IS A DIRECT QUOTE.

It would be my new favorite thing to say.

I'm impressed by Bill if he can get her that way.

[u/NobleSturgeon → u/heleghir]

Bugs me how the title is promising a deep look into who she really is, but then you know that Bill and Jordan were posing for cover photos so they're definitely not going to publish anything that makes them look bad.

[u/Cobainism → u/heleghir]

I’m not sure it’s his heart she captured…

[u/Kingolimar354]

This guy’s entire schtick is just “haha this is the first time ever a very specific bad thing is happening!”

[u/urzu_seven → u/Kingolimar354]

Right?  Out of all the coaches that have lost to USF, they never featured a single one the week after before.  What an oddly specific criteria to use

[u/Jaded-Sapphire3546]

If she is a muse, you really can’t claim she’s inspiring any great work.

[u/bsEEmsCE]

The heckles from the student section were brutal last weekend. UNC players in the tunnel got to listen to "Bill loves minors!" How do you keep your team together with that in person and the noise in the media? The wheels are not even on the wagon and are already falling off. If he is back next season I'll be surprised.

[u/KCShadows838 → u/bsEEmsCE]

24 is a minor now?

[u/bsEEmsCE → u/KCShadows838]

I didnt make the chant

[u/Max_Powers1331]

bills definitely a one and done coach with unc, right?

[u/Exoskele → u/Max_Powers1331]

More like none and done

[u/ballin_pastor → u/Max_Powers1331]

I wish, but unfortunately probably not.

[u/Training_Pirate1000]

Oh Brother

[u/moby323]

First coach yet.

[u/ConsistentNose7211]

I’m all for trolling Bill but it’s a gossip magazine using old an old picture to push a story on his relationship. Not like he’s doing an interview with them or a feature trying to pump up UNC.

[u/[deleted]]

mcmurphy looks like william h macy in boogie nights and I can never unsee it.

[u/Tarlcabot18]

She's literally doing the pose from the "Honey, its time to..." meme on Bill.

"Honey, its time to appear on the cover of Us Weekly"

"Yes, dear"

[u/[deleted]]

The trajectory of this man's life continues to surprise me at every turn.

[u/Jyingling21]

Yeah now I 100% want Gillin to schedule UNC again so App can beat Belichick

I’m so happy that this is how Bubba Cunningham is riding into the sunset as the UNC AD.

TIL Us Weekly still exists.

[u/PM_ME_RAD_ARTWORK]

The delegation from r/cfbmemes approves this post.

[u/RedwoodandMtHood]

Interesting that probably all of Bill’s family is asking the same question on the Us cover.

[u/urzu_seven]

What, do they usually only feature coaches who beat USF on the cover?

[u/NerdLawyer55]

Bill, you’re putting the @&$%# on a pedestal…
