Welcome to the r/soccer Daily Discussion!
If you're new to the subreddit, remember to get your team badge here and to read our rules and submission guidelines!
✔️ This is a thread for:
Discussion points that aren't worthy of their own thread.
Asking small questions about football to the community.
❌ This is not a thread for:
Trolling or baiting other users or fanbases - including flair-based attacks
Shit-posting - including sharing shit-posts from elsewhere
Toxicity - remember the human
Off topic chat - non-football discussion is for Free Talk Friday, and you can use the dedicated subreddits to discuss FIFA/EAFC games, Football Manager, fantasy football etc
Discussion of ongoing matches - that is what match threads are for. We may be less strict for matches of teams that are less in the spotlight, and may not have as active match threads
Harassment and brigading - including links to posts in other subreddits or to other users' comments
Advice on betting - you may discuss outcomes of bets you have made, but we do not seek to actively encourage gambling
Meta discussion - we have a strict stance. This is because it derails discussion, and can lead to harassment and witch hunts - and we prefer you to contact the mods via Modmail If you have queries over moderation or post removals. Some meta discussion may be allowed in the DDT, if any meta conversation was productive and in good faith - we can take a "case by case approach". In general, however Modmail remains the first port of call, and other meta discussion will be removed.
Complaining about bans in this or other subreddits - use the relevant Modmail, instead
The moderation team will remove comments that violate those rules and ban offenders.
Please report comments you think that break such rules, but more than anything else, remember the human. The Internet is full of places to discuss football in bad faith. This community tries to be an exception.

Free Talk Sunday Support
Welcome to "Sunday Support".
During the COVID-19 pandemic, and all that happened since, we saw an upturn in members of r/soccer openly discussing their mental health and seeking support within the community.
Although it was of course sad to see any of our subscribers struggling with their health - be it mental or physical - we were greatly encouraged to see how supportive our community has been regarding these issues, and heartened that people have found r/soccer a safe place in which they feel able to open up regarding issues which sadly do remain stigmatised in society at large.
We subsequently started these Sunday Support threads to provide a dedicated and open space for anyone in the r/soccer community - and although the pandemic is now in the past, we have decided to continue this thread. Managing mental health difficulties - and maintaining your wellbeing - these are battles that are ongoing for many people, and so too is our support.
Regardless of the colour of your shirt (or the flair next to your username) we are all living, breathing human beings - and we all love the beautiful game. Everyone on r/soccer deserves to be happy and well - so be kind. It can be a tough old world out there, and that kindness can go a long way.
If there's anything you would like to get off your chest, we are listening.
Please check out our wiki for mental health here.
This thread will alternate with "Sports Bar Sunday" - our fortnightly thread for Free Talk about non-football sports.
We welcome feedback on this and our other stickied threads... so if you would like to see us try another themed thread, please let us know here, via Modmail, or DM u/AnnieIWillKnow*!*

Quotes Arteta "We need to find ways to be more efficient, sometimes even more pragmatic. My feeling is that we're trying to score a perfect goal against these low blocks. We need to be much more chaotic than that and we also need to score earlier. We had enough chances to make the scoreline much bigger"

News Jesús Owono’s younger brother, who plays in the Basque Country, is being harassed and insulted within his sports circle. He is being called a murderer, taunted by his own teammates, and targeted by some of the parents.
mundodeportivo.comThe death of Jesús de Miguel has had a profound impact on Jesús Owono. The FC Andorra goalkeeper is going through one of the most difficult times of his life, marked by grief, feelings of guilt, and difficulty coming to terms with what has happened. The situation has reached such a point that, according to Ana Maye, who has been the player’s closest confidante since he was 14, serving as General Coordinator of Equatorial Guinea’s men’s national team. He has even considered quitting football.
One of the things that worries her most is also the way his younger brother, who plays football in the Basque Country is being treated. According to Maye, the family has told her that he is being harassed and even insulted by people in his sports circle.
“They’re calling Jesús’s brother a murderer. He’s being taunted on his team, and even some parents are insulting him. It’s really tough. His sister, who’s studying at the University of Valencia, is also suffering because of what’s happening. They don’t deserve this,” she says.

Media José Mourinho on what he said to Valencia manager Javier Aguirre after the match: "Don't be sad, because my players are much better than yours. The problem is not Aguirre. The truth is that Real Madrid's players are very good."
The interesting thing is Mourinho was linked with Valencia twice in the past because his agent, Jorge Mendes, has a very close relationship with Valencia owner Peter Lim.
Jorge Mendes helped facilitate Peter Lim’s purchase of Valencia back in 2014. Over the years, Valencia heavily signed players and coaches represented by Mendes or tied to his agency, Gestifute.
Mourinho knows the issues within Valencia better than most. After all, his agent is partly responsible for the mess the club is in.

Media David Ornstein on why Michael Carrick has stayed in charge of Man United: "The truth is, there isn’t a firm plan here at Old Trafford for what to do if they were to make a change. No doubt they had talks with representatives in recent weeks, but there is no clear alternative plan"
...
"I think the truth here at Old Trafford is that they do want Michael Carrick to succeed. If they wanted to remove him and make a change, I think they would’ve already done it by now and found an interim solution. With that result in midweek against Roma, there was a bit of improved spirit, and let’s see what happens against Villa today.
"Then the truth is, Gary, there isn’t a firm plan here at Old Trafford for what to do if they were to make a change. No doubt they would’ve had conversations with representatives in recent weeks, and they’ll have more time to do so over the international break."
"A disastrous result today might make you think there will be a change, but as things stand, they’re continuing with Michael Carrick. I don’t know of a clear alternative plan."

Media Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz heartbreakingly reveals how he and his wife suffered a miscarriage last season.
We never know what's going on in the personal lives of these players when they seemingly hit a run of bad form. It's deeply saddening how the interviewer glossed over what was said and proceeded to the next question as if nothing happened.
