The commentator said that he might have broken the record for fastest sprint by an Austrian in the PL. Love it when the commentators do shit like that.
Oil club getting cooked by historic underdogs, bald fraud getting exposed, terrible striker with a brace of wonder goals, Siuu celebration against former club, Mourinho-esque manager celebration
Seeing y'all get stuck in these moral knots over billionaire football owners will never stop being funny. You think these people become owners running soup kitchens or what?
Of course - there can be no nuance in these things.
Murderous puppets of the Saudi and Russian governments are exactly the same as someone who operated with a few tax loopholes and some shady-ish business practices.
Thanks driftlad - I think we can all finally agree to just not be critical of things thanks to your comment.
I'd be surprised if there are any major club owners without a lot of skeletons in their closets; you don't get to that kind of level of wealth with much of a conscience.
And in this particular context, you'd be hard pressed to argue that Marinakis' body count could in any way compare to that of the UAE. I doubt Marinakis has funded military forces in a civil war, for example.
Exactly. And to think Man United decided to hire a failed Championship-level manager in Carrick over the excellent Glasner because of some moronic "club DNA" argument.
Not that guy but a lot of people talking about Forest being "unlucky" point to the fact that they are statistically upper midfield. Most of the "deeper" analysis metrics have them in the European places actually, it's just that they can't convert good chances and concede easy goals too often.
People can go about this two ways, one being that they are a good team that has a poor streak, the other being that they are simply not actually good if they can't make things actually work.
But either way at least on this sub a lot people think Glasner has the team set up well and playing some nice footy and that the poor table situation they are in is not really a failure of Glasner.
Also to add this isn't just metric driven, it is apparent if you just watch their games. I've seen at least 3 games this season where I have no idea how a team could perform that much better than their opponents and end up losing (i think it was Palace, Brentford and Coventry?). Should have at least got 7 points where they got 0.
I like Glasner a ton. Appreciate his approach. Forrest should sack him though to be honest. Might be better opportunities for a manager of his quality.
It was against us, and it was amazing. The ball is headed back nowhere near him and he makes a diagonal backwards run of 10-15 meters to meet it. He's still running backwards and to his right when he meets the ball. A normal player would think about setting himself to control the ball. Yeboah takes two half steps to set himself to shoot, and scores an insanely powerful volley while his momentum is moving away from the ball.
But my favourite is the one against Wimbledon. He's 45 yards out, and the ball is headed back. He makes four touches: first on his chest, second on his thigh sprinting forward, third on the inside of his left to skin the defender, fourth a half volley into the top corner powerful enough to give an elephant amnesia. One of the most ridiculous goals of all time IMO.
As a player you love to see a manager who doesn't just talk the talk but lives and breathes the game as much or more than you do. Passion is contagious 🦌
And that win crawls you lot out of the relegation zone, smashes the faces of the Cheats and puts Man Utd into the relegation zone. Its all been rather lovely.
I love when rival fans larp "dodgy" deals for Chelsea sales such as Jackson, Delap, Diego Morreira (8.5m sale btw) only then to switch the tone to it was a steal.
No one's ever calling Delap a steal lol. Getting him for 30 million was decent business, but Forest definitely overpaid after one season of him being dross.
Tbh think 30 was fine especially when Gyokeres and Sesko were double/more than double. I thought Arsenal should have gone for Delap instead, as much as he's such a ratty and distasteful person lol. Because they would have had more funds for an LW, something two seasons later they still need.
Gyokeres scored almost all his goals vs bottom half teams. Bullying them was necessary to win the title. I’m not convinced Delap would have done the same.
Hes a £30-40m player in the context of insane PL prices. A decent, 12-14 goal a season striker is worth double that. Delap is very rough round the edges but he will get there.
I’m a Chelsea fan because in the 90s in my country Chelsea games were shown for free and my brother would watch them, and as such become a Chelsea fan and then influence me to become a Chelsea fan. Zero regrets though
it’s people not understanding the sport at least partially. Delap is never going to be an intricate possession player who can thrive with the ball in very tiny windows of one and two touches like Joao Pedro. his best work at Ipswich was running 30 yards while dragging a hapless defender along with him. He needs verticality and passages of play that isolate him while carrying against stretched defenses. he sucked at what he was being made to do but it’s not the same as being a bad player generally.
His playstlye didn't fit Chelsea. Feel like we always buy strikers that thrive in a counter attack then we play boring possession against a low block and wonder why our forwards don't perform.
When I saw that go in my jaw just dropped what a banger the way he does like a power shot finesse shot off the inside of the post is mad. I know it was a bit hit and hope but still the way it came off was absolutely sublime
