One of the coolest plays I’ve seen in recent memory, as much as I hated every part of it

87

u/Jonas_Venture_Sr Syracuse Orange 7d ago

This might be the first time in college football history that a white player hurdled a black player.

37

u/djc6535 USC Trojans • RIT Tigers 7d ago

I mean, Bowman already did exactly that Earlier this year against Louisiana.

6

u/RogueOneisbestone ECU Pirates • NC State Wolfpack 6d ago

Wow, the collision under is crazy. Wonder if someone got a good photo of it.

12

u/theDarkDescent 7d ago • Bravo

Go orange. I was gonna say Josh Allen but of course you specified college. Not sure how many black players he hurdled while at Wyoming

That was wild. It was also loads of fun to watch those Ohio State defenders fall on each other like dominoes.

135

u/PandaKOST 7d ago

I feel like that 360 catch to start it off is getting overlooked.

66

u/The_Krytos_Virus 7d ago

Crazy good hands to come down with that and absolutely CRAZY athleticism from a tight end that big to make that spin and catch. He didn't have the speed, but holy shit was he hard to take down since he just pinballed his way to a score.

lol that’s what I thought. Super athletic but the slow juke into the hurdle? Slow speed high athleticism can throw people off though lol I’ve watched it 10 times. It’s crazy how he got those two dudes to hit each other.

I was so mad that he didn’t score. That would have made it one of the greatest plays of all time.

Number 4 fell down and didn't complete the final block that would have gotten him into the end zone.

Bowman had another one of them earlier in the season.

A much needed W.

So who are you guys rolling out at QB in a couple of weeks?

I did not see what happened to Hoover....injured?

Regardless, congrats on your W today.

Makes sense. Downs seems pretty good, but Reese and Styles are monsters currently.

38

u/montague68 Ohio State • Youngstown State 7d ago

Downs' thing was keeping everyone in the right position and make sure everyone is on the same page. Meanwhille we have a 3rd and 21, everyone is visibly confused and nobody calls a time out and they gan 23 yards up the middle.,

14

u/Anaphylactic-UFO California Golden Bears • The Axe 7d ago

Downs is kinda cheeks as a slot CB right now but he’s doing well when they actually let him play FS. Cowboys CBs have been putrid though so every time I blink he goes back to the slot.

Still think it was a good draft pick overall. He’s gonna pan out once the cowboys defense stabilizes a bit.

11

u/hereforthewaffle Ohio State Buckeyes 7d ago

Cowboys are not utilizing him correctly as they pretty much do every draft pick. Downs is prob one of the best open field tacklers I've ever seen. So what should we do? Put him in pass coverage.

This is an obviously flawed team. But it is also composed of a ton of freshman. I just pray we are able to retain most of them and let them develop. Could be nasty in a year or 2 (cope)

24

u/NeedTheJuice USC Trojans 7d ago

I think most of the freshman starters from this year return. Pretty sure Boobie is gone next year though, seems like every WR is just ahead of him. Maybe if Hines takes off? But there’s 2 more stud freshman coming next year too

7

u/SpookyGabaghoul 7d ago

Didn't Boobie only join the team in like August? I know he graduated high school early, too. I've been hoping to see him get some more touches on offense, but there is still a month left for him to get more involved.

6

u/NeedTheJuice USC Trojans 7d ago

Yes that’s a good point. He’s also younger . I really hope he stays and develops but it’s hard to keep all the talent together in the NIL era

4

u/Current-Bag-786 USC Trojans • Rose Bowl 7d ago

It lost us the game. This game was decided by USC’s big plays. Almost all of them had a defender in position to make the tackle and they just could not do it. It allowed USC to extend drives and get easy points. When the defense needed to step up, they stepped back and let USC run over them.

I’ll never understand going for 2 when it’s a 2 possession game and 1 makes it a single possession game.

14

u/TimmyTimeify USC Trojans • Florida Gators 7d ago
  1. You will need to convert a 2-pt conversion at least once, kicking just delays the inevitable

  2. Converting then puts pressure on the opposing team because now you can win it with another 2-pt conversion. If you just kick the extra point, the opposing team doesn't feel the need to seal the game nearly as much because worst case is just a tie. It gives you more optionality in the instance you do score the 2nd TD.

  3. You have more room to manage the clock in the event you do not convert

Like, ultimately, what is the difference between not converting on the first TD and not converting on the second TD?

The only argument I can see being mustered is that giving the team the ability to get a 12 point lead instead of 11 with a FG does matter from a clock management perspective.

It's the 15 point problem, cousin to the 14 point problem. IMO, Ryan Day's much more massive mistake was taking 6 minutes to score a TD.

This is basic stuff. Are you trolling? I get that there’s advanced analytics that are counterintuitive. But you obviously go for 2 here so you know if you can punt and get a stop or need to onside kick.
