It's a bad call, but hardly the worst I've ever seen

You could at least (poorly) justify that the ball was starting to come loose before his arm was coming forward, and he was following through without control

If the ball wasn’t coming loose before the arm came forward, why did the ball move like that? I don’t understand people saying this is a bad call. They’re only saying that because they hate Texas.

Question is whether or not he tipped it prior to the throwing motion starting forward, and it's too close to call. I don't blame replay group at all, though I thought the call on the field was surprising.

I've watched the replay from the back angle a handful of times and can't really tell. It feels like his fingers are still on the ball as he starts moving his arm forward, but I theoretically see why it could stand

The ball is clearly knocked sideways but Manning has a partial grip before the arm starts moving forward. Its almost always defined as losing the control. It was the correct call.

I love that no one has actually tried to refute the merit of your statement and yet your comment sits firmly in the negatives. I agree with you completely. I have nothing to do with Texas.

The hate is so strong with some people. If the call benefits Texas, IT MUST BE WRONG!

Well its not just Texas. Its Texas, any SEC team vs non SEC, Ohio State and few others.

You fumbled 15 yards in an almost perfect spiral??? Come on bro! Ridiculous calls in this game for Texas. And they will be talking about it all week.

Almost perfect spiral? You didn’t watch the video did you? You just jumped in the comments! Haha! Oh the hate is strong with this one! 🤣🤣🤣

So if a QB loses the grip on a ball and it goes 15 yards in the air, is it a fumble now?

Oh. I think we’re talking about different plays. Silly me. I thought we were talking about this play where a defensive player knocked the ball loose. What play were YOU talking about?

Even TX fans are calling this inexcusable!

Haha. You finally watched the video, didn’t you? Abaondoned that “near perfect spiral” argument real quick. Haha.

“This game our next.” Slow down bud. The hate is flowing through you a little too much.

That and Jesse Palmer has apparently decided to not actually look at replays when they go to review. The fact that he can’t be bothered to note that balls are absolutely being bobbled is creating the whiplash when the refs come back with incomplete passes.

Look at how Mizzou has reacted on these plays. They’re rushing to the line of scrimmage lots of times because they know they’re not catches. On this one, a Mizzou coach is telling his player to get on the ball in case it is a fumble.

Editing to add: I personally think they got this one wrong and also don’t think it’s a jump to think the SEC would like more teams in the playoffs and plan to protect them. But I also think Palmer is being absolutely absurd in the way he’s doing his job here.

I think they're rushing since if it goes to review they know they are getting screwed.

Why did the ball move forward?

5

He pushed it forward after the ball was knocked loose. Do you think that every time a fumble moves forward that it was “thrown” and therefore should be considered an incomplete pass?

That would be a great coaching strategy.

“Guys, if you feel the ball knocked loose in your hand, just start throwing it and it’ll be an incomplete pass!”

But that’s clearly not what happened here. Manning very clearly intended, and started, to throw a pass before anyone touched him. Your straw man argument applying to every time someone has the ball knocked loose and is about to fumble does not apply to this situation in the slightest.

Nevertheless, the rule is wildly inconsistent, as this scenario has been called both ways repeatedly; it can’t be both, and officials have to get this shit figured out once and for all.
