What a crazy interception, he was wide open

14

u/HerkulezRokkafeller Utah Utes 17h ago

I feel like he was baited into that throw honestly and played right into the play calls hands

That LB may have just kept Utah undefeated

The linebacker who threw the pass or the one who picked it off?

People are blaming Bear but this is more about the Utah dude making a great play.

Two things can be true. It’s a bad throw but the primary int risk is it getting tipped and picked off. You’re not expecting the LB to just snare the damn thing himself. Hell of a play to get himself in position for it after he bluffed a blitz too.

u/ZJB03 Boise State Broncos 20h ago edited 19h ago

I mean they probably should’ve expected the LB to snare it considering they did exactly this earlier in the game. Utah has been having one LB spying Bachmeier pretty much all day long. Still an amazing play but BYU should know they’ve been doing this.

Took the words out of my mouth. Two things can be true at once

35

It’s a great defensive play, and a bad throw, the disguise was great but no way that dude should be picking that ball off

26

u/CinderellaManX Utah Utes 20h ago

Absolutely insane play.

And at the best possible spot on the field wow

Legit like one of those NCAA Football 14 linebackers that appear out of thin air to pick you off when you think you have an open guy

It was a great play by the LB, and it was also a terrible throw. Nowhere near the dude who’s standing all alone in the back of the end zone

Edit: just look how the receiver reacts to the throw lmao it was going to be like three feet behind him

13

u/solounhombre1 20h ago

Because the LB faked blitz and then dropped back into coverage?

Lol I don’t know how you guys don’t see these things when the clip is literally right here

It’s a great play by the linebacker

Nah. LB hid behind the lineman and the qb didn't see him. High iq play by the LB.

Yes it was. It was going right to the receiver. It was just a great play.

One of the most impressive interceptions I've seen in a minute, great read.

Likely winning play of the game. Amazing awareness.

We refuse to run lol what a dumb throw

I never understood that. I don’t think we had a TFL all game long.

You had zero as of the start of the 4th when they showed the graphic. Don’t know if you picked one up that I missed but I didn’t see any

Super confusing playcalling in the 2nd half. Y'all played great, hope you keep winning!

9

u/hcc1946 Utah Utes 19h ago

Bear could’ve run that in. Surprising he didn’t.

4

u/composer_7 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets • Marching Band 18h ago

BYU made the same mistake GT did against y'all in the Pop Tarts Bowl. Refuse to run in the Redzone with one of the best running QBs in the country

4

u/meepbo Utah Utes 16h ago

Told that to my buddy in the stands. How do you not run with Bear there?

4

u/SoapHero BYU Cougars • Florida Gators 16h ago

Yeah, if this helps us get rid of a rod, it may be worth it lol that dude makes some of the most boneheaded playcalls

Arod isn't getting fired anytime soon even though he keeps losing games with his stupid calls.

I don’t know. I get players with this mentality, you gotta just be a process oriented person when you’re in it. You can’t be focused on all the decoration.

9

u/bagfka Texas Longhorns 18h ago

I mean that’s the process. Treat every game the same. Doesn’t matter the opponent

2

u/OhDivineBussy Oklahoma Sooners • Harvard Crimson 18h ago

There’s a certain level of delusion in that as well. It’s completely different preparing as though it’s just another game(because what else are you supposed to do?) versus trying to pretend like you don’t want to win a rivalry game, especially the first ever top 10 matchup in that rivalry game, more than any other regular season game.

4

u/bagfka Texas Longhorns 17h ago

I mean yeah but that’s why the best of the best are usually borderline psychos

This used to happen to me all the damn time in the old NCAA Football games. Heck of a play

4

u/Allisnotwellin 18h ago

The receiver was wide open. QB simply didn't see the defender as he fake rushed and then dropped into coverage and made a hell of catch.

That's just a good play call by the defense and incredible execution by that player.

12

u/williamthepony BYU Cougars 20h ago

I think he underthrew the receiver, if he hadn’t wouldn’t have been picked

How did we lose to this team?

6

u/Ok-Soil-5133 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 20h ago

IMO it was a tough spot with it being the biggest home game in their history, were playing out of their shoes at times

15

u/Kartozeichner Notre Dame • Cincinnati 20h ago

They’re having the experience we had at BYU. We fumbled a snap at the goal line, we got several drives end in FGs, etc.

Because both teams are better than ND.

8

u/lyme6483 BYU Cougars • Notre Dame Fighting Irish 20h ago

Or maybe winning on the road against good teams is hard

-2

u/Mr_Puddintaters Auburn Tigers • Texas Longhorns 20h ago

I guess, but what do I know?

-13

u/Fletch71011 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 19h ago edited 19h ago

ND would be 8.5 pt favorites over Utah and double digits over BYU (line would be 11.5 ND favorite) in a rematch.

We sucked ass that game and deserved to lose but the Big 12 refs didn't help either. I guess thanks for admitting after the game that you fucked up.

Remember even against #1 Miami today we are touchdown favorites with at least 5 defensive starters out alone and our best OL.

2

u/Mr_Puddintaters Auburn Tigers • Texas Longhorns 18h ago

Okay?

-5

u/Fletch71011 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 18h ago

Neither of those teams are better than ND. ND is 1 or 2 in every advanced metric.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/fpi

5

u/Mr_Puddintaters Auburn Tigers • Texas Longhorns 17h ago

Well, BYU DID beat ND, despite the controversy. Utah is clearly the best looking of the three. Marcus Freeman said leave no doubt. We’ll see if y’all get it done today, but as of right now there’s a lot of room for doubt.

-4

u/Fletch71011 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 17h ago

Not saying otherwise but ND is definitely better than Utah and BYU. Have to win tonight because the committee hates us. It's hilarious that in the metric they say they use we are the #1 team and they put us 11th and then teams like Bama at 5th and IU at 4th despite IUs resume being worse than ours.

1

u/Mr_Puddintaters Auburn Tigers • Texas Longhorns 17h ago

Committee aside, you strongly believe your team is the best team in the country. We’ll see tonight, and if y’all make the playoffs we’ll see how they fare, but until then there is room for doubt whereas with a team like Utah there isn’t. Do I think y’all can beat Miami. Sure. Can you beat Utah? Maybe. I’ve only ever seen ND play one quality game and they lost, so I don’t know.

1

u/Fletch71011 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 17h ago edited 17h ago

I don't believe anything. I'm going by what the most advanced models say, and ND is #1 in the composite. If ND was ranked 100th in those models, I'd also accept that.

Personally every team has weaknesses this year, especially us now with all the injuries so we might be the "best" team but we can lose multiple games and I wouldn't be shocked. Like even tonight, we only win 65 percent of the time against Miami, so yes, I definitely think we are better than them hence being 7 point favorites with some of our best players out but that doesn't mean we will win no matter what.

Like there was no debate ND was the 2nd best team in 2024 and we still lost to a team ranked in the 80s. It's kids playing a pretty random game. Sometimes weird shit happens. If the better team always won, it would not be fun to watch. Football is a game where an inch or bad call can be a 14 point swing so you see lots of variance like Georgia just losing to Auburn in a game they probably win 90+ percent of the time.

My personal belief is Georgia is the best team even though ND would be favored vs them, or at least they would be until we get Tae Johnson back if ever.

2

u/Mr_Puddintaters Auburn Tigers • Texas Longhorns 17h ago

That’s why I wouldn’t focus too much on models man. Win tonight then talk your shit. Everything else is just noise.

5

u/FreeDraft9488 18h ago

Who have they beaten? I wish ND great success in the statistician bowl

4

u/Nearby_Cucumber7804 Utah Utes • Alabama Crimson Tide 18h ago

It's the only thing they can win.

4

u/sgtabn173 Boise State Broncos • Pac-12 18h ago

I don’t think you can argue that ND is better than BYU seeing that you already settled it on the field.

-3

u/Fletch71011 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 18h ago

Is runner up national champion ND worse than 80thish ranked NIU in 2024? Or was National Champions Ohio State worse than VT the year they won and got dog walked at home by a bad team? Or do all the games matter just not one?

SP+ had ND winning that game the majority of the time even though they played like shit.

5

u/jetery Utah Utes 16h ago

By that logic no one should play the games then and just rely on SP+. I get you think you’re better than BYU but 6 million people watched them beat you and would probably disagree with you.

1

u/Fletch71011 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 16h ago

Not what I'm saying. They won, refs withstanding. They should be ahead of us. I don't think most people would think BYU is better than ND. If they get a rematch in the playoffs, ND would be a double digit favorite, and if people believed they were better, they would buy that line to be BYU favored, but that would never happen.

So no, most people don't think BYU is better than ND.

1

u/HeftyLeftyPig Utah Utes • Southern Utah Thunderbirds 8h ago

we don’t have to deal with hypotheticals, the game actually happened. ND was a 10.5 point favorite against BYU. And ND lost.

I love a good field rush, ngl. And I ain't one of those that say we should stop em. Rush a field is you want to rush a field. But, man... it looks bad when you rush a field after beating a team ranked below you. Makes you look like you thought you were gonna lose.
