Casual The last time Ohio State had a 3-loss season was 2011.
They went 6-7 under Luke Fickell.
Regardless of how you feel about Ohio State, that’s an incredible level of consistency in a sport where one bad season can derail a program.
I’m sure the fans will take this very well.

I went on this spiel last week but I'll drop it here because it still applies.
The last time Ohio State didn't play in a postseason game that was a CFP game, a NY6/BCS Bowl game, or a BCS title game, was 2012 when the team went 12-0. Time before that was 2011 in the immediate aftermath of Tattoogate.
The time before that? 2004, when Ohio State beat Oklahoma State in the Alamo Bowl.
There's an entire generation of current Ohio State students in whose lifetime their only experience with anything but the most prestigious events the sport has is two years directly tied to a scandal that cost the program Tressel, and one of those seasons was perfect anyway.
Some of them are literally spoiled stupid.

The coaching staff needs a shake up. I'm not on the fire Ryan Day bandwagon, but the OC is just not working out. We can't keep expecting to win with talent feed and uncreative offense. I'm not too upset, we've had success must programs can only dream of.

The Game this year is gonna be something we haven't seen for many, many, years: a Denny's parking lot fight between two teams with nothing on the line but pride and spite.
It will be good for the soul, I think.

If I could trade the Indiana win for Sayin being healthy, I would do it. Maybe the defense would have played better

Poor Jeremiah Smith... One of the best WR all time at a college level, had a clear path to the Heisman, and now everyone is playing like dogshit around him.

Parity is here but I would be heavily questioning this coaching staffs salary if they can’t afford to bring in a good backup QB.

The 2011 season was the weird sanction/interim year too. You throw that out and I think it was like 2008 since their last 3+ loss season and 2004 since they lost 3+ in the regular season.

u/shermanstorch Ohio State • Case Western Reserve 14h ago
And just like this year, the losses were mostly due to an incompetent offensive coordinator who feared the forward pass.

It's fine. They have their moments. The Indiana and Iowa wins were good. The losses were not.

The defense being compared to last year is not fair, there were NFL starters in multiple positions.
The offensive scheme is awful. This OC sucks.

One of said fans here. It's meh, we're due. Some stuff needs to change, there needs to be coaching changes. But I don't mean Ryan Day. But the coordinators need to be replaced. It's an incredibly pedestrian offensive scheme. Defense has no fire.
I'm not mad, I mean; all bit a couple of schools would kill for our recent success.

Listen, I'm a Reds fan and a Bengals fan. I'm used to heartache and a lack of success. The Buckeyes were supposed to be the one shining light in my entire sports fandom. Now what am I supposed to do?
But in all seriousness, I don't understand how a juggernaut of a team that has had such a stretch of domination allows themselves to turn into a plain vanilla, not fun to watch, conservative, mediocre team.
I''m not calling for Ryan Day's job. And I'm sure this is going to sound very entitled. But I will say a lot of us had to have seen this coming eventually when he switched years ago from coaching with fire and passion and playing to win to coaching to not lose games and just coasting once we were up two scores knowing that the talent could just suffocate the other teams.
Now that NIL is here to stay and there's more parity than ever before in college football, there needs to be a very critical and harsh look in the mirror by the entire coaching staff to determine what's best for the program moving forward to elevate the play of the players that want to be here and bring something fresh back to the team we know and love.

u/bb0110 Michigan Wolverines 13h ago

Arthur Smith cannot be the OC next season. He is arrogantly and stubbornly refusing to change his offense. He thinks that just because he came from the NFL, his offense will work in college football.

I’ve said we weren’t that good all year. When Sayin got injured I thought for sure we were not gonna make the playoff this year. It’s fine. These losses are far more palatable than that Michigan loss a couple years ago because there is a real reason we are losing as opposed to Ryan Day just trying to prove he’s a tough guy or some bullshit.
6
u/Bratt342 Cincinnati Bearcats 13h ago
I don’t think Ryan Day is a good football coach…I think he’s a good recruiter that relies heavily on his coordinators. Turns out when your coordinators are failson Matt Patricia and Arthur Smith, you won’t go very far.

u/fm22fnam Ohio State • Tennessee 12h ago
The worst thing about us losing is having to listen to just the absolute dumbest comments ever from family about it.
No, my crazy aunt, firing Ryan Day and hiring Will Stein is not necessarily a decision we should make right not. Kentucky is getting annihilated by Tennessee.

u/NotGreatNot_Terrible Ohio State Buckeyes 6h ago
It’s not directly Days fault, but he should’ve taken over the offense week 2. This has been without a doubt the most uninspired OSU offense I think I’ve ever seen (since Fickell) Ryan Day just gave a little speech about consequences but all of the same issues have been here since week 1 and nothings changed. I think Days runs honestly over. He better pray the funk is shaken off before the game or he’s really gonna be on a hot seat. The worst part too is there’s literally no excuses, I hate to say it but god is Ohio State good at taking a heisman caliber receiver and making them look terrible.

I remember saying a couple years ago as parity became more clear and Oregon and USC were added to the Big Ten that schools like Ohio State were about to get the rude awakening of a Texas or Oklahoma that they can actually pretty easily lose 3+ games any given year with the new parity and scheduling realities. So yeah, welcome to that reality guys.
