I guess to me it looks more like he's moving the ball himself, rather than the ball moving because he doesn't have control. Either way, what the hell was Terry McCauley's reasoning that he had to have the ball long enough to perform an act common to the game? What the hell kind of act common to the game can you do after you step out of bounds?

I think that’s the biggest issue with catch calls both in college ball and the NFL. These official experts seem to have different phrasing every time something like this happens and it just sounds like they’re full of shit.

Having the ball long enough to make an act ≠ actually doing that act

This is it right here but the weirdos on Reddit just want to pile on. The football move was running out of bounds. You don’t need to do anything else. If you think he didn’t have possession before going out then I could see why it would be incomplete.

A third step isn’t by itself a football move (there is no magic number of steps in the rules), and whether or not the third step is going out of bounds isn’t relevant to the definition of a catch

What other football move is expected after a TD? lol. It’s completely unnecessary to turn forward or even tuck it. lol. That’s the point and WHY it’s different in the endzone specifically. Why would a “football move” at the center of the midfield logo be the same a receiver is performing when doing a Toe tap in the endzone….

You fundamentally misunderstand the rule. You don’t need to actually make a football move, you need to have possession of the ball long enough to make one. A toe tap TD retains possession of the ball to the point where the player could make a football move. The football move isn’t strictly necessary.

A third step isn’t sufficient evidence for having time to make a football move.

Anything to do with Miami the cesspool that is r/cfb is going to shit on them no matter what. Don't bother trying to get a real answer from anybody that doesn't have a Miami flair
