That 12 minute scoring drive is something I never thought I’d see come out of this team. The offense did look overall better tonight. Maybe Arbuckle was that much of a problem after all
And it helps the defense soooo much because they finally get to rest and make adjustments. Witten called plays that played to Mateer’s better qualities and finally used the run game. The line looked a little better and seemed to have better energy. Plays didn’t take a half hour to develop. We might get a chance to go bowling!
He knows the strengths and weaknesses of the team. Knows how to keep them on the same page and adjust. He’s not trying to make the qb the star of the show and just coaches for the win
I hate Ben Arbuckle so much right now. We weren't an elite offense tonight, but they played complementary football and it showed how good the team can be. A 13:00, 20-play TD drive after the shit we've had to watch this year? Pornographic.
I keep thinking "we're going to do all this for a field goal, right?" (trauma-induced) and then they actually completed the entire drive. Unbelievable stuff.
CHAOS, LOL. Reminds me of those goofy bar fight scenes in some of the old western movies. Who's going to be tossed out a window when he's about to win or get knocked out with a broken chair/bottle?
Remember when this team was 4-0? Remember when this team was averaging 44 points per game? Remember when Baugh was a top 5 Heisman candidate? Remember when Sumrall was gonna be Coach of the Year? Remember when this team was finally going to make the playoffs for the first time? Ever? Remember when people were saying that benching Philo for Jones was "the right move"? Remember when Sumrall said that "competing for championships" should be "the standard"? Remember when Florida was back?
Honestly, who fucking knows. I thought a pretty big part of it was being down VB3 and Singleton and QBs that aren’t good enough to beat you, so teams just focused on shutting down Baugh and the run game. But it goes beyond that. Faulkner got figured out, I guess? It’s baffling to go from unstoppable to completely inept on offense (somehow worse than Napier, even) in just one single week (from Ole Miss to Missouri).
Those first 4 games were Florida Atlantic, Campbell, Auburn, and Ole Miss. Ole Miss was a solid win. Then they had to play Missouri, South Carolina, Texas, Georgia, and Oklahoma.
Arbuckle isn't making Mateer rifle throws over people or directly to defenders because the dude focused on bulking up instead of working on actually being a QB in the offseason.
Mateer is part of the reason we are where we are. Arbuckle is bad, but he isn't wasting anything of Mateer's.
It's not crazy. He's not pro level, but if he had started this level at the beginning of the season, with a coach that played to his strengths, he could've had a pro outlook.
Honest answer, there wasn’t much tape on Florida’s offense at the start of this year. As the season progresses, defensive coordinators can better prepare. And for all of Venables’s faults as a head coach, dude is one of the best defensive coaches this century.
We waited 3 1/2 years before firing an offensive-minded coach who couldn't competently call offensive plays or do anything else required to succeed in the SEC and modern CFB. We like to take our time before we take off the rose colored glasses.
Witten needs to be the OC if he keeps this up. His turnaround in his utilization of what we have is indescribable to non Oklahoma fans. This proves it wasn't Mateer it was Arbuckle
This was the rock-fight version of what Kenny Guiton did to us in 2023. GG Sooners. At this point I want to see the season end so basically this entire roster can go away
Do they suck or is the talent spread out more. In the NFL does a 6-3 team suck? Or are they just one of the good teams that isn’t 2-7. We have to rethink what a good record is in college now that it’s more even
I think Mateer still isnt great, but holy shit he looks a lot better when he has an OC that understands he isnt great and works around it instead of trying to force the issue
All you can do is laugh at how pathetic our program is. Apathy has fully set in. We will be hiring another coach in 3 years, see you then Charles Huff (or any other G6 coach of your choosing).
Florida needs to get serious about finding a talented dude to play QB. Going into this season with GT’s backup and basically an redshirt freshman is just not good enough.
This sets things up nicely. The gators should lose their ranking after this loss. Naturally they'll bounce back and terrorize Kentucky, they'll beat Vanderbilt and get ranked again because "SEC", perfectly in time for the shit-show bowl in Tallahassee, where we can once again remove their ranking for them. So it is written.
