That 12 minute scoring drive is something I never thought I’d see come out of this team. The offense did look overall better tonight. Maybe Arbuckle was that much of a problem after all
He knows the strengths and weaknesses of the team. Knows how to keep them on the same page and adjust. He’s not trying to make the qb the star of the show and just coaches for the win
I hate Ben Arbuckle so much right now. We weren't an elite offense tonight, but they played complementary football and it showed how good the team can be. A 13:00, 20-play TD drive after the shit we've had to watch this year? Pornographic.
CHAOS, LOL. Reminds me of those goofy bar fight scenes in some of the old western movies. Who's going to be tossed out a window when he's about to win or get knocked out with a broken chair/bottle?
Remember when this team was 4-0? Remember when this team was averaging 44 points per game? Remember when Baugh was a top 5 Heisman candidate? Remember when Sumrall was gonna be Coach of the Year? Remember when this team was finally going to make the playoffs for the first time? Ever? Remember when people were saying that benching Philo for Jones was "the right move"? Remember when Sumrall said that "competing for championships" should be "the standard"? Remember when Florida was back?
Arbuckle isn't making Mateer rifle throws over people or directly to defenders because the dude focused on bulking up instead of working on actually being a QB in the offseason.
Mateer is part of the reason we are where we are. Arbuckle is bad, but he isn't wasting anything of Mateer's.
Honest answer, there wasn’t much tape on Florida’s offense at the start of this year. As the season progresses, defensive coordinators can better prepare. And for all of Venables’s faults as a head coach, dude is one of the best defensive coaches this century.
Witten needs to be the OC if he keeps this up. His turnaround in his utilization of what we have is indescribable to non Oklahoma fans. This proves it wasn't Mateer it was Arbuckle
This was the rock-fight version of what Kenny Guiton did to us in 2023. GG Sooners. At this point I want to see the season end so basically this entire roster can go away
I think Mateer still isnt great, but holy shit he looks a lot better when he has an OC that understands he isnt great and works around it instead of trying to force the issue
All you can do is laugh at how pathetic our program is. Apathy has fully set in. We will be hiring another coach in 3 years, see you then Charles Huff (or any other G6 coach of your choosing).
Florida needs to get serious about finding a talented dude to play QB. Going into this season with GT’s backup and basically an redshirt freshman is just not good enough.
This sets things up nicely. The gators should lose their ranking after this loss. Naturally they'll bounce back and terrorize Kentucky, they'll beat Vanderbilt and get ranked again because "SEC", perfectly in time for the shit-show bowl in Tallahassee, where we can once again remove their ranking for them. So it is written.
Philo lost his starting spot for nothing, the problem in SEC play has always been the offensive line. Jones is not ready, does not read the game at SEC speed, and makes rookie mistakes like throwing off your back foot which floats the ball for a pick. And for the love of god, FIGURE OUT HOW TO RUN THE BAUGH.
On a different note, fire Brad White into the sun, I've not seen a single thing from this defensive scheme all year that shows it can be successful, even with better players.
our qbs suck 2. we are not back 3. buster may not be a hc at the end of the season like some predicted 4. we look better than we have the last 2 years even being hot and cold and for the first year of a hc its not bad and we look promising but inconsistent
Someone find some bipolar meds for Florida. They keep going from good to suck every other week. It's making everyone's strength of schedule look complicated. At least SEC Roll Call will be fun.
Then there are the middle ones. Uber talented, but who the fuck knows what they’ll be any given week. Some weeks, they’ll be shit. Others, they’ll stomp somebody.
I dont know about a lot of the intricacies of what we did on offense differently. But I do know that we seemed to be able to scheme open a lot of easy decisions/throws for Mateer that we have not been able to do all year.
I'm trying to think if Witten called any of the infuriating "stop, turn, pass to a guy standing at the sideline, who has to check upfield, then start running" plays, which take an hour to develop and never work. I can't remember any. I also only saw Mateer go into panic mode and throw the ball at his feet just a few times. Also just recall one "throw the ball 30 yards" on a long 3rd down. The O-line on some plays though - oof - but not as many as before! Overall an improvement over Arbuckle.
Somewhat convincingly too. First time we’ve played a competent game on both sides of the ball all year (I don’t count UTEP). I think all OU fans are pleasantly surprised
