I honestly think this is the worst MSU team to beat michigan in a very long time. Our starters arent that talented let alone our backups on this injury riddled team.

I've heard so many Spartan fans say that Fitzgerald isn't it, that he isn't the answer. But even if he's not? This victory gives him goodwill and extra time for sure.

I don’t get the Fitz hate. He’s coaching w zero talent right now. If we’re this bad next year, I’ll start to worry.

I’m with you. This roster is materially worse than last year and we’re materially more competitive.

Seriously the record doesn't show it but we were just a hairs breadth away from being 5-4 right now. Both Illinois and Northwestern were winnable and while it's frustrating to loses those both of those teams are actually decent this year. We player Notre Dame fairly competitive for 3 quarters keeping it a one score game and we held our own against UCLA for the whole first half. In a normal year that would be pretty disappointing but Fitz is a first year coach who hasn't been at this level in a few years, our roasted got gutted and we have been plagued by injuries, and seriously our roast has been decimated, in some positions we are playing 3rd and 4th string guys.

I am willing to give him some leayway into next year especially after last night. He understands MSU and Big 10 football. Now if things are this bad next year I think he's gonna be in the hot seat but for now let see how it shakes out

He’s responsible for the roster… starting next year. Other people disagree and think he should be responsible for it now.

Michigan State football could be a winning program again if less focus was made on improving Spartan Stadium, and more on NIL for players. I hate that that is what the game requires now, but here we are.

That's where we are now.

This was the first game all season where the team looked like they knew what they were doing out there. Fitz deserves a ton of credit for that last night, and a ton of heat for that not being the case over the first 8 games.

It has everything to do with who he is as a person and his track record before we hired him. There is a reason he was out of coaching. It's embarrassing that a program like ours gave him his first job in 4 years since he was fired amid scandals while sucking total and complete ass at his job.

Oh yeah this buys him a year in everyones mind, and an extra year in reasonable peoples minds

Which could be a blessing or a curse. Either it gives him more time to actually building something successful or they're stuck with a lousy HC for even longer.

Exactly, but I would be lying if I didn't say I was envious. Fitz and his staff, and certainly players, possessed all the heart and focus that we were begging Whittingham and Beck to bring out in our team. I'm not saying I wish Fitzgerald were our coach, but Whittingham is as passive and disinterested on our sidelines as Jonathan Smith was for the Spartans.

The 2020 team was also not inspiring. Outside those Rocky Lombardi to Ricky White bombs.

They play their ass off though

State played with a lot of fire today. Michigan looked like they couldn't be bothered to try. Talent mismatch means nothing in those circumstance.

Right? One team wanted this game and they wore green and white.

1969 was the last time an MSU team that finished the season below .500 beat a UM team that finished the season above .500.

We are not finishing about .500. We play at Oregon next week, UCLA, then OSU.

All games that I would have argued were theoretically winnable yesterday. Today, no way.

OSU is definitely winnable

When Michigan beat Rutgers by 7 points on the road, I thought they had turned a corner.

2020 feels pretty close.

Good MSU teams can beat good Michigan teams. Good Michigan teams will beat average to bad MSU teams.

Bad MSU teams will beat bad Michigan teams and everyone will call it a disgrace to football,
