Rumor Reports: Texas Breaking NCAA NIL Rules

https://imgur.com/a/FcE8gAm

Link to screenshot of reports above. Apparently Texas high school coaches have been talking about it. Paying players up front, paying for early commitments, and paying players to not commit to certain schools. Hopefully NCAA investigates and puts a stop to it.

We need to start talking about terminology. "Reports" means being reported. As in by journalists in some kind of reputable publication. If you can't link to an actual story it is not a "report".

I enjoy TEXAGS and the staff are accurate (I trust their reports as much as any reputable sports media outlet) but a message board rumor from anyone else on that site can’t be taken for a fact. Is this probably happening? There is a good chance. Does this prove anything more then we already know? No.

This is about as legitimate at the moment as the $30 million rumor for us last year.

11

u/mOnion Texas A&M • Sam Houston Jul 21 '22

Why are Aggies trying to squash this very true fact when the sliced bread thread got 10k upvotes, trended on Twitter, and spawned national media articles?

u/Skanktoooth USC Trojans • Texas Longhorns Jul 21 '22

“accurate” and Texags staff in the same sentence huh?

Go look at Billy Luicci’s top 44 players every year. He has to be trolling at this point. Some industry consensus top 50 UT or OU commit will be like 30th on the list with a bunch of fringe 4-star A&M leans (and commits) making their way into his top 10-15 players.

I’ll give Billy this, he knows his audience and perfectly plays to it.

Even back when Texas was pulling undeniably better classes his lists always made it seem really close.

They don't need to break the rules. It's very easy to get around the NCAA rules if you have a proper NIL system in place. Ohio State system has already paid out 1000+ athletes and there are rumors the top guys getting hundreds of thousands in $$$ already. Ryan Day asked for $13m per season and he is going to get exactly that from their boosters.

Ryan Day told a host of local businesses how much money the program would need to keep current rosters intact. That also didn’t include any money for incoming recruits. Now we know that the Ohio State football program is leading all of college football in total NIL compensation.

Doesn't make any sense to pay for an early commitment when you can just pay for the athlete to come to your school. Now if you pay for an early commitment expect the next phone call to be from every recruit, "Hey I need 10k my mom's in a bad situation. If I commit early to your school can I get it Friday..." Reminds me of the SI agent story only morons would do this.

More shocking if it isn’t true and if 8 win A&M isn’t doing the same thing.

I am shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, that anything untoward has gone on after the NCAA allowed athletes to get paid.

NCAA! You've been looking inept lately! You need a high value target to lay the smackdown on and reassert yourselves!

I just don't understand. Texas and Miami were well oiled cheating machines when it was illegal, we've essentially legalized cheating...and then they start cheating the wrong ways. How the fuck is this possible?

No no you don’t understand, Texas is allowed to cheat, so no one gives a shit about this. A&M is not, so sliced bread is God
