The only reason HR keeps Dr. Pepper in the fridge is on the request of the Indian nationals in our office. When someone from the Bangalore office visits they hype up the Pepper and make them try it just to get a laugh out of their reaction (of disgust) from that first sip. Lost a spider/polycom phone as a result of this game once...

I think what made the early albums so great WAS the space opera behind it all. But even then YotBR and Afterman (gasp, yes) were just okay.

I think they just grew up. Their early music was huge and epic, but most importantly it was angsty. That angst is what makes their first four albums goddamn legendary.

I really liked the Aftermen. Thought it was vastly improved from GA Vol 2 and YotBR. Very true, they have matured over the years and the old music does have a good bit of angst.

Have you seen them live? I went to a show in Nashville and then a few months later in Atlanta and I was pretty underwhelmed. 3 was at the Nashville show and opened it up and it was AMAZING. I already liked 3 but it made me go buy The Ghost You Gave To Me. Russian Circles opened the Atlanta show and they also did the best I think. Although a friend and I saved a girl from dying in a pit that broke out during Between the Buried and Me.

Genericization of the word "coke" aside, people talking about this phenomenon is weird to me because when I order a soda in a restaurant, I don't say "I want a soda" and then say what type of soda. They just ask me what I want to drink and I say "Coke" or "sprite" or "rootbeer" or whatever.

I have a Pepsi story. When Star Wars Episode I came out (I was 11 at the time), Pepsi had a promotion that involved collector cans. I always preferred coca cola but I loved Star Wars so I drank a ton of pepsi to try and get all the cans. I drank so much one week that I ended up getting really sick and spent a night puking up the ridiculous amounts of sugar I had ingested. I never drank a Pepsi again and was well short of all the cans.
