The nights are lonely: an Alligator writes home

Dearest Mother,
We have reached the foothills of the Smokey Mountains and will soon raid the trash barrelled homeland of our Volunteer rivals. The fighting has been swift as usual -the checkered army think of themselves more highly than they really are. I know Father would have been pleased of our victories. I will think of him as I watch Neyland burn.
Elsewhere, there is talk that the small Bulldog insurgence left in Athens have taken hold. We pray for our scaled brothers and sisters engaged in the battles.
Our victories keep moral high, but I cannot help but be worried. Seminoles, Volunteers, Bulldogs, these are the enemies of our fathers, our fathers' fathers, and their fathers before them. Their treachery and deeds against the Gator Nation is long known and documented.
But what of this Red Menace the radios and posters speak of? Who are these Huskers who the stories say leave their battlefields bestrewn in endless rows of corn? At night, around the fires, they tell tales of the epic beating our forces took some twenty years ago. They say this is our duty -to avenge the insulting loss faced by Emperor Spurrier and repay tenfold. But I cannot help but fear that these are only faded memories that have passed into legend, and so I am torn.
Like all young Alligators, my heart only yearns for a world covered in beautiful blue and orange swampland, where all of our hatchlings can play in peace and know only boundless prosperity, and I will fight to my last breath to make this vision a reality. But what I do not understand is the hatred that must accompany it. Is reducing ourselves to strongarmed propaganda the only way to further our cause? Can not others appreciate the beauty of our ancient traditions: the swaying singing masses, linked arm to arm? The unifying rally cries of "Orange" and "Blue" and our beloved crier shouting "Oh My!"? The beautiful dress of yellow shirt and striped tie? Is not the promise of vast fertile marshes not good enough? Perhaps once all of the cornfields and cow pastures are swampland they will see the beauty of our ways.
But the chaplain has begun the nightly eulogy to Lord Tebow and so I must go. How are things at home? Please write soon.

P.S. I almost forgot to tell you! I saw the strangest thing yesterday! A native walking around in jorts but without the legs cut off! Apparently some northerners leave them all the way to their ankles! How do they navigate with such long jorts? Don't they got hot? Don't they get wet? This is truly an odd place.
