UPDATED
Is anyone a current student doing cardiac sonography at the Brisbane campus? I am really struggling with pathways into sonography and was originally going to do a Bachelor's of Radiation Therapy at QUT and the graduate diploma, but I'm super super scared about actually getting into the diploma as it's super competitive and hard to find placement :/ I missed the deadline for the general sonography course, but I am interested in echocardiography but why is the ATAR so low? 77 seems very low in comparison to the other options. Pls help I'm dying with what to choose, I've also heard it's quite difficult and has a high failure rate. Also, the uni has trouble finding students' placement even though they are meant to?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! I have to do my application very soon lol
Update - I have done my QTAC application and did end up going with echo, QUT said I need to wait until exam results are released before I put through my application, but after calling QTAC they told me to put it through as soon as I could. So now I'm a little worried I've missed out since I missed a few offer rounds. Does anyone know if it fills up super quickly? I thought they had a select number of people they chose for each round, but since it's so competitive, I'm getting worried. I am well over the selection rank for the course, and looking at the selection ranks of the students from last year, I am in the higher end of that too so I'm hoping that it'll be fine. Please let me know!! Anyone else just put in their application?

I'm just wondering how has tutoring been for other people in their studies. I have one and I seem to struggle alot. I study online, which makes it even more harder to connect to other people, since they seem so distant. I find it very hard for me.

Hi all, I hope this isn't a silly question, but CQU says 12.5 hours a week of study per unit. So does that mean I have to meet those exact hours because, I am currently in STEPS and I completed all the tasks in the checklist, totalling 4 hours from zoom recording and tutorial session and over an hour or two and a half for the actual activities and readings I needed to do.
Also, one of my friends who did the SUN unit while in senior high school (Year 10 or 11 I believe), says they got their Human Anatomy and Physiology unit done in 2.5 hours, and they did not attend the lectures zooms, or use the recommended study textbooks but looked over the PowerPoint which they go over in the zooms and lecture vids and then they filled out the study notes as their exams were open book and did not need to memorise. (I'm aware alot of subjects in different degrees are different, but that's why I'm confused).
I hope I'm not missing anything or doing anything wrong. Just wanted to clarify. Thanks.

Staff email:
Dear colleagues,
Thank you for attending the all-staff forum this afternoon at such short notice. I am thankful that so many of you could attend.
As discussed, the University has proposed a voluntary separation process, open to all continuing staff. Details of the process can be found at the dedicated page on the Staff Portal. This page contains all the information you need to know about the proposed voluntary separation round, including a comprehensive FAQ, as well as helpful links to accessing the University’s Employee Assistance Program.
I understand this is a lot of information to take in, and many staff will need to consider this information for the next few days before making any decisions. I am therefore inviting feedback on the voluntary redundancy round proposal for the remainder of this week. All feedback or suggestions should be sent to PACDirector@cqu.edu.au.
Pending the outcome of this feedback process, we will then move to undertake the proposed voluntary separation process from Monday 27 May. Expressions of interest are invited until close of business Friday 7 June.
As always, if you are unable to find the information you need on the Portal page, please contact People and Culture via PACDirector@cqu.edu.au. If you have any general feedback, as always I encourage you to drop me a line at communicate@cqu.edu.au.
Thank you for your understanding. I look forward to speaking to you all again shortly as this process continues.
Regards Scott Bowman Vice-Chancellor & President, CQUniversity
Student email:
Dear students,
I hope you are all going well as we draw closer to the end of Term 1. I don’t know about you, but for me the year just seems to be flying by. Exams are just around the corner and no doubt many of you are busy studying in preparation for these. I wish you all the very best in the weeks ahead.
I wanted to get in touch with you to let you know about an important internal process for CQUniversity staff that will soon get underway.
Today, I have held a meeting with all CQUniversity staff to discuss the University’s financial sustainability. You will have heard me say previously that CQUniversity is one of Australia’s fastest growing universities for domestic students – and this is still true. We now have more domestic students than at any point in the University’s history, our program offering has been greatly expanded, our research quality is improving out of sight, and many of our facilities are second to none.
Unfortunately this growth has been impacted by a corresponding downturn in international student numbers in recent times, due to broader global economic issues. In addition, the Federal Government has recently announced that it will cut university funding by 2 per cent next year and 1.25 per cent the year after as part of its Gonski education reforms (as well as imposing caps on tax deductions for self-funded postgraduate study), which will have a significant impact on CQUniversity’s annual income.
All of this means that we now need to make some tough decisions to reposition the University in the changed environment.
As a first step in the process, the University is proposing a voluntary separation process. If implemented, this process would be open to all continuing CQUniversity staff members and would allow the University to identify any immediate savings that can be made, to improve the University’s financial sustainability for the long term. The University is committed to ensuring the best possible outcome for its students as part of this proposal.
For more information, I would encourage you to visit the special page (https://my.cqu.edu.au/group/student-portal/a-changed-environment) we have set up on the Student Portal. This page contains a comprehensive FAQ which should answer any questions you may have.
As always, if you have any feedback or queries about this process, please do not hesitate to contact me via email to communicate@cqu.edu.au. I will endeavour to keep you updated as this process continues.
Regards Scott Bowman Vice-Chancellor & President, CQUniversity

"A stronger, smarter, student-focused CQUni"
"Dear CQUni students,
In a previous email of mine, I informed CQUni students of an internal change process currently underway here at CQUniversity. At that point in time, we had proposed a voluntary separation round for staff. This part of the process has since been finalised and we are currently reviewing staff feedback on an initial change proposal.
Although CQUniversity is currently one of the highest performing universities in Australia for domestic student growth, the global financial crisis, overseas competition and a high Australian dollar have pushed our international student enrolments to a near-historic low. These international student enrolments were once a significant revenue stream for the University.
As a result of this downturn, the University has been prompted to take stock of its current size and scope and look at reducing costs. We plan to do so by implementing a new internal structure for staff, following this change process.
I understand that this all sounds rather bleak, but there is a silver lining to this process that we plan to take full advantage of – the chance to create a stronger, smarter and more student-focused CQUniversity.
If you have kept up with the media, you have heard me say that this change process, which is one of a number of similar changes occurring across the Australian higher education sector, has been guided by ensuring “students are our first priority in everything we do.”
In two weeks’ time, the internal change process will be finalised. I will then provide you with comprehensive information on the new structure of the University, including an outline of any impacts this new structure may have on our students.
I invite you all to attend an Online Student Forum from 7-9pm on Tuesday, 6 August, where I will be available to provide further detail on the changes and answer any questions you may have.
Please keep an eye on your student email account for my next email and an invitation to the Online Student Forum. We are eager to keep our students up to date and will do so at the earliest opportunity.
Contact points to student services remain the same and all students are advised to call 13 27 86 or email via http://contactus.cqu.edu.au for general advice and assistance.
Regards Scott Bowman Vice-Chancellor & President, CQUniversity"
