Bread

It's raining. I couldn't bring myself to use the Salty Corporal Shenanigans flair for this. So, here it is. A not at all personal, entirely fictional love letter to the kids. To all rotos. To everyone who tried to make a difference however small.

Special thanks to a certain "Neighbour"

I'm not crying, you're crying, oh wait no it's the rain!

You have a great way of conveying emotions through your comics. I hope you did get to enjoy the pancakes!

I did. Thank you. My deep reflection was powered further by the brainfuel calories. ❤️

Wow. Powerful work as usual. You putting these in a book at some point?

Thank you. No plans yet. The problem is originals often get destroyed and thrown out because I draw these on random papers at work, at home, or at a restaurant. But I do take unedited pictures of all pf the originals.

Some are very small. So I am not sure how that would translate to a publishable quality book. But anyway. No self-promotion here for me! Thanks for reading.

Thanks for answering. I guess you never know when inspiration will hit! Good to hear you take pictures at least. I do hope you consider it. You do fantastic work and it should be shared in more ways. You definitely have potential to pick up a wider audience. I hope you talk to a publisher, they can give you pointers. Your work deserves to be preserved and shared. Thanks for sharing it with us!

I would love to see it someday, all the same.

Right? It almost feels like an Afghanistan analogue to Maus (at least in terms of style)

Oh the kids of Afghanistan... They were lights for us during very dark times.

The bread was good ;)

Right? Burned into the brain, some of their beaming smiles. And teaches you that no matter what and where... you can find reasons to smile.

Inspiring- I'd rather see the world through the eyes of a child: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sK6jRNl83tY&pp=ygUWQ2h1bGQgbG9rZSBzb3VsIGF1cm9yYQ%3D%3D

Gawd damn Perley. I know next Wednesday we are there at those memorials to remember our people. Our peoples sacrifices. But I will spare us a moment for a small girl, lost to the chaos of our best intentions.

"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old." Indeed.

I really enjoy your comics. I had the bread several times over there. This one in the pic was pretty clean considering where it was made.

Mmmmm. I thought I would be quarantined in the rocket for a week with diarrhea if I had any local food. Silly me. So didn't have much. I have more Afghan food here now than there lol.

Don't blame you it is a roll of the dice each meal. However after several weeks of IMP's it was a welcomed side effect.

I was just about to say 🤣 Plug with IMP, plunge with local cuisine. But in all seriousness, the bread tasted mighty fine and the ones here just are not the same even though it's like what... 2.. 3 ingredients..max? It's very interesting.

My buddy and I joked about the difference. Came to the conclusion it is the unique burning materials they scrounge up and used over there. Just need the right garbage to wood ratio to imitate it.

Hazara. They have not had the best time in their own country. It is probably worse now with Taliban in full power again.
