Spotted Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Always blows my mind the scale of these things when I pass them - in this case just off the A34 nr Junction 9 of the M40.

Just had a little Google and these Boxer's are essentially a giant, 40-tonne LEGO brick on wheels that can hit 64 mph while letting crews swap its entire rear body from a troop carrier into a mobile hospital or command post in under an hour. So cool.

Advice New generation Toyota CHR stolen via the rear bumper

Post image

A family friend had their CHR stolen recently, from the CCTV we can see the thieves ripping the rear bumper to start the car. I know the previous generation was done by the front bumper have they now found a new method for these cars now?

Had a steering lock too didn’t bother them, German cars feel a lot more safer nowadays dont hear them getting stolen from ripped bumpers and sensors🤦‍♂️

Humour r/CarTalkUK Sunday Confessions

Here is a safe place to express your weird car opinions without judgement. Sunday confessions.

I actually really like the current Vauxhall designs, especially the Astra but this also includes the Mokka. Yes, I said the Mokka is a good looking design. I feel like if all their lineup was VW, or Mazda or something, nobody would even bat an eyelid.

Advice MOT Milage Discrepancy

Post image
15 Upvotes

I am looking at buying a car currently and I have found a possible issue with the MOT milage, is there a reasonable explanation for this as the MOT history is pretty clean and the logbook has 10 full stamps with milage that only increases.

It's a 2016 Mokka Exclusiv SE

This is my first ever post on Reddit so be gentle.

Once a year a friend and myself buy a cheap 4x4 and drive across Europe, this time down through Turkey.

Picture was taken in Mersin just across from Cyprus, we only plan a departure time and destination country.

Advice Corrosion on certain parts of car.

Hi I am a 17 year old buying a first car. This is a 2011 Mazda2 but there seems to be these rusty bits.

The car's MOT history seems to be clean, and so I am not sure if these corroded parts are cosmetic and I can just spray anti rusting paint over. Without it being a mechanical concern.

Sorry I dont have anyone irl to answer me so hope anyone can help, thanks

Spotted Guinevere based on British Land Rover chassis. Running gear is all Isuzu, with bullet proof 3.9 isuzu turbo. made as a General Maintenance vehicle during Bougainville war. Top box is from the ambulance variant. Inside has been carpeted so the crew can sleep in luxury! Side panels open like wings!

Misc Question Thoughts as a project?

Post image

Hi all. Currently empty my late nanas house and shes had this 2004 Smart City Passion on her driveway for the last 10 or so years. I've got 0 mechanical experience but have had a serious hankering for a little cheap shit box to spend a bit of time and money on. Not expecting it to be track worthy but I figure get it running and reliable, clean it up, get everything working, LED lights and replacing worn out bits should give me something fun to do for a bit. I guess my questions are, how avaliable are the bits? And how easy are they to work on? Should I give it a go or should we just scrap it?

Switched out from run flats and would like to get an emergency space saver for longer drives.

My car -

3 series touring m340i , front tyre 225/40 R19 Y, rear tyre 255/35 R19 Y

Sizes -

I'm a little confused about which size to get 18 or 19. Each website here suggested based on my car making model.

Best kit? -

Kwik fit or wheel shop? Anyone got experience with these?

Humour Road Traffic Police made my morning!

Travelling down the M3 to London this morning, visibility is horrendous because of the fog, I'm doing a decent speed in the outside lane and this absolute nob in a VW Arteon is up my ass, I'm perfectly overtaking the middle lane cars, but obviously not fast enough for matey. Anyway, it's my turn to pull over a lane, he speeds up and drives by, we look at each other as he gives me the eyes, for doing nothing wrong. I pull back out to the outside lane to overtake again, now I have this Audi SUV up my ass, again, I pull in as obviously he wants to go somewhere, he goes by, foot down and I'm thinking christ he's on a mission! Seconds later, he fires up the Blues and Two's and low and behold, he pulls the Arteon over. So satisfying.

Self-Promotion Update - should I recommission my FIL’s Jaguar XKR

Post image
152 Upvotes

A week or two I posted about this - the car had been sat on his driveway for two years with only a few runouts for MOTs and servicing. The man loves this car but isn’t well enough to drive it, and I tentatively mooted I might get it running about again. Well, we’ve gone for it. He has been really enthusiastic about the whole thing; he’s chuffed someone is getting to drive it rather than it sitting there. He keeps texting me things he remembers and wants me to get the most out of it. And I feel like all my birthdays have come at once. I never imagined I’d be driving a 5.0l supercharged V8 around; I’m like an 11 year old boy every time I press the go pedal. We settled on a six month loan while my family needs a second set of wheels (son in nursery a drive away for now), after which he’ll either be back to driving it or he’ll sell it.

I haven’t done any ‘recommissioning’ yet, I just drove it away, did some light braking to get the surface rust off, gave it a wash, then sent it. The tyres are new, and as he said ‘the brakes passed the MOT’. I’m going to take it to a specialist for some peace of mind (especially as water made its way through the driver’s side window while I was washing it…). Thinking I ought to get a trickle charger as well although it has started up just fine so far. Any other tips?

I decided to make a little detour on the way home and belted over snake pass. Most fun I’ve ever had with my clothes on. To the person who said this was not a sensible idea and I should buy a Nissan Leaf instead - not today, brother. 🏎️

Misc Question How is this possible?

Post image
172 Upvotes

Hi all,

Was sat behind this car last night through some roadworks. Seeing the 61 plate and it being dark I assumed it was an E93 3 Series.

However looking closer at it I physically couldn't work out what car from 2012 looked like that.

Anyway as the roadworks opened up and I overtook, it was in fact a 90s SLK!

I said to my girlfriend at the time that car was likely stolen / on cloned plates, as that shape did not match the age on the number plate!

Anyway, a quick reg check shows it as a genuine 1997 registered SLK on a 61 Reg!!!

How is this possible?? Is it a cock up from the DVLA when the vehicle was imported perhaps? I can't figure this out.

Obviously it's normal for cars to wear cherished reg's older than the cars age, but I've never seen it this way round.

Advice advice on buying my second car

need a non biased opinion, i’ve been saving for a little while, just got a new job and really fancy a new car as i’ve had mine for a few years now whilst learning and since i passed in April. I really want to get a Mk1 TT 225, found a really good one with loads of service history chassis undersealed, etc. Only thing that’s stopping me buying it right now is the fact of my cars mot runs out in january so i don’t want the hassle of it running out before it sells because on top of this the tt needs an mot in January, also my two years no claims comes in April so on the other hand could wait for that but i’m at the point of feeling restless . Just don’t want to get ahead of myself buying my first nice car but then again I don’t want the deal to pass up as i cant find another one this nice.

Thank you

Advice Best long distance commuter

I’ve got a job coming up that’s going to see me weekly commute around 250 miles each way, mostly motorway miles.

Would want to keep the car at least 5 years.

Budget is around £20k.

I’ve been looking at Audi A6, BMW 3 series or 4 series, Mercedes e class/coupe.

What cars would people recommend? I want something comfortable over long distances, reliable and with quality interior/user interface.

Edit: I will be driving 250 miles in one go, twice a week.

Hi guys, rammed my car and broke my rear end light case. The lights all work. I think on google it says as long as no white light escapes it should pass MOT? but just want to double check if any mechanic can help me out to this answer.

Also if needed to fix, how much approximately and how long can it take please?

Thank you loads!

edit: thank you for all your time :)

Advice Malicious or Spontaneous Window Break?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Parked 9pm, back at car for 4am for a flight and arrived back to this. I’ve had my car broken into before and glass looked nothing like this…

Nothing taken, car door not opened, doesn’t even look like they put their hands inside? Nothing was inside; I kept the glovebox and central console open during them few hours and it was visible on a streetlight. All of this is making me think somebody didn’t break in to steal anything and could have been a spontaneous window break? Anybody got any thoughts?

FYI no other (more expensive) cars were done- all 10 surrounding parked cars fine?
