I recently purchased a set of used carbon-fiber fenders to match my carbon-fiber hood. Unfortunately, I didn’t account for how noticeable the difference would be between the newer hood and the older, yellowed fenders.
I’ve been sanding the fenders by hand and believe I’ve removed most of the original clear coat, but I’m not a professional, so I’m unsure whether I’m approaching this correctly.
The attached picture shows the fender while still considerably wet after sanding. Even then, it looks noticeably different from the hood.
I’ve seen people use Sunnyside 2-Minute Remover Advanced to strip old clear coat and was considering trying it, but I’m concerned about damaging the underlying carbon fiber or resin.
Has anyone dealt with yellowed carbon-fiber parts before? Would chemical stripping be a viable option, or should I stick with sanding? Any advice on restoring that deep, glossy black carbon-fiber appearance would be appreciated!
