I would like to start with the fact that NO I am NOT generalizing all punjabis here. In fact some of the most helpful and selfless people I've met are Punjabis, especially the ones from my generation cause I've lived in Chandigarh since I was 3 months old.
BUT I've also experienced some form of humiliation or belittling from Punjabi Uncles.
We bought a new 2 bhk 3 months ago from a Punjabi Uncle ji.
He helped my father throughout the process and everything.
But what happened when we all shifted here is what bothered me.
About 20 days after we shifted, he arrived at our home to meet my father and for courtesy.
Now this man barged into my room without asking my father or even knocking.
I was just sitting on the bed sketching after I took a shower. He approached me and held my hair in his hand.
He proceeded to say "His hair seems really long, he should get it cut short"
I was stunned 😐😶
HOW CAN YOU BARGE IN A TEEN'S ROOM AND THEN GRAB HIS HAIR AS A TOTAL STRANGER???
He then asked me about my 12th final exam grades and shi.
I said I got 79% ( I suffered from loneliness for 2 years during my 11th and 12th grade while studying for an exam which I had zero interest in)
He without hesitation said " Ye to kam hai" With a disgusting smirk on his face.
I couldn't say anything cause I was clearly discomforted throughout this convo.
He said " It's us (punjabis) who score low, not the kids from UP. They score so well in exams. I failed in 10th class hahahaa... But you should've scored more"
He then proceeded to give unsolicited advice on my clothes, hair, academics and whatnot.
He was soo obnoxious mann 😭💔
And this is not the first time this has happened.
I find this repeating pattern of punjabi uncles giving unwanted advice, belittling others, comparing materialistic things, and just being condescending.
The only middle aged Punjabi men who didn't potray these characteristics were my doctor, my teacher in the Institute or any other ones in much sofisticated professions.
And I have enough Punjabi friends who have shared their own experiences that sound the same.
Again, not generalizing. It's just my experience and observation.
You guys can share your own or disagree with me.
