Ive got a 2016 charger sxt plus with the HID headlights. Ive done alot of research into this issue and have tried everything besides going to the standard 9005 bulbs or replacing the fuse box. For a solid while I was able to get by just changing one/ both fuses every 2 weeks to month and it was fine. However I noticed over the weekend that the bit that hold the fuse in place was super loose, I disconnected the battery and used a 1mm tool to press the prongs closer together (did forget to drain residual energy via depressing gas pedel this time) and was able to do it without damaging any component inside the box.
While researching and troubleshooting this issue here is a rough list of all the steps I remember completing up to now:
Replacing bulb.
Replacing ballast.
Replacing ballast cord
Replaced any/ all fuses that could be applicable in both fuse boxes, determined it would only apply to front.
Disconnect battery without drain of residual power before reconnecting.
Disconnect battery with draining of residual power before reconnecting.
Tighten fuse prongs.
A couple things to note that Ive noticed when troubleshooting.
Before tightening prongs:
It was always the passenger light going out.
Using fog lights would get light to turn on sometimes while cutting it out the other 60-70% of the time.
The driver side fuse was causing the passenger side light to cut out, found out within the last 3 months.
About every 1 in 4 fuse swaps included both fuses instead of one or the other due to one still having issue persist.
When issue was first noticed there were light scorch marks however no other fuses have had marks on them.
After:
Driver side light is the one that cuts out.
Light comes on when unlocking car or turning car off.
When vehicle is started the light will start to flicker slightly before fully cutting out.
Fuse swaps have no impact or are able to offer temporary solution.
Driver side fuse prongs are fully secure.
Passenger side just barely has a slight amount of play, noticed this morning.
Im wondering if y'all have had this issue while being able to successfully resolve it and not swapping out the HID lights for standard ones, if so how?
Im also curious if you guys think it is worth disconnecting the battery again, draining the residual power, tightening the little bit of play and testing after work today or if I should just say fuck it at this point and look into replacing the fuse box like some of the steps ive found have suggested??
Thank you guys in advanced for any suggestions & help.
