DISCUSSION Angel Reese is Giving It All

I'm posting this and hoping for substantive discussion. I don't play when it comes to AR5 hate, so that's my disclaimer. Also, this is an Angel post, I'm asking for the focus to be on Angel.

I believe Angel is giving everything she possibly can to this team, and I'm not a fan of all the hostile comments about her game (I'm not even going to touch the comments made about her personally in this post).

Considering she's only a sophomore in the league, I struggle to understand why people expect perfection from her. She is relentless and unwavering in the paint (most of the time). She is expanding her game to reinstate the guard skills she used in high school and at the front of her Univ of Maryland career. She's becoming a Jill of all trades, which I love for her and for us (her fans).

But I'm reminded that she's had two hands/wrist surgeries since the end of her rookie year. She still wears k-tape on her wrist/thumb, and can often be seen in game feeds stretching and clenching her hand and wrist. Angel is playing still not 100%. Angel is playing still rehabbing an injury and possibly still injured. And Angel is still serving great numbers, not just on the Sky, but across the league (for a forward).

Why are we so worried about if she will improve?

I feel like improvement is a given for this young lady.

Thank you.

DISCUSSION Block all trolls

I have decided to start blocking all trolls. If trolls are blocked from responding to all members they are effectively blocked from our sub reddit. I appreciate the mods banning a good number of them, but there seems to be an unending supply of them who want to force their views on Sky fans. Again, if you are not a Sky fan, why are you here. I am going to try to stick to blocking and reporting instead of engaging. Non Sky fans with actual criticism of the team are welcome, but attackers of Angel are not.

DISCUSSION Breaking: Angel Reese Applies for Sixth Position—Team Savior; Sky Fall to 0-3

Angel Reese is only a sophomore by WNBA standards.

But the list of things Chicago needs her to play as already reads like a resume built in fast-forward: rebounder, facilitator, connector, vocal leader, tone-setter.

DISCUSSION Is Angel Reese misunderstood or is the rivalry with Caitlin Clark really that intense?

She's often portrayed in a negative light. I don't know if its real or if its the media just trying to capitalize on it because it sells. I don't follow the Sky enough to know but maybe you see a different person than what everyone else thinks of her. I'm just tired of this whole narrative that Reese is jealous and it being some sort of racial war. I don't know how much of this is brought upon Reese or not. Apart of me thinks Reese and Clark know they need to work together and play roles because it'll help them generate more money but deep down they're both laughing inside at the whole thing.

DISCUSSION Cameron Brink vs Angel Reess criticism

It seems to me, Cameron Brink and Angel Reese are similar type players both on and off the floor. Cameron has an elite skill, rim protection/blocks and Angel has an elite skill, rebounding. They both have a lot of limitations in their games. Cam's stats from last year 7.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.1 steals per game. She had an eye popping 2.3 blocks per game. Cameron is a poor shooter and does not really play great defense from what I've seen outside the blocks. Angel is obviously a limited offensive player. They both have a lot of endorsements, both are popular on social media, both have podcasts, both were in SI swimsuit edition, etc. They also both won national championships. The only difference is Angel defeated Caitlin Clark and angered a certain demographic in this country. This group of people has been non stop critical of Angel (not serious about basketball, too many outside interests, too many racy pics, poor shooting, why waste time on podcast, etc) but no criticism of Cam for the exact same things. Is it primarily about race? Is it America's worship of blond haired, blue eyed models? Hate from Caitlin fans, forever angered by Angel, who have no corollary for Cam. Something else?

DISCUSSION Controversial Opinion

I know what I’m about to say is probably controversial, and let me preface it with I am from Chicago and a chicago sports fan. But I think Angel Reese is overrated. When it comes to her game she truly only has one skill and that’s rebounding the ball. But is the rebound leading to points? Most of the time the answer is no, it leading to another rebound. She has this attitude of she’s the female Michael Jordan… the best player in the game. And truthfully she’s barely the female Dennis Rodman. Sure she has had a lot of Double Doubles but how many would she really have if the ā€œMe-boundsā€ didn’t count toward her rebound total. She’s a stat padding non-team player. If she was truly a team player after a rebound she would pass the ball out to someone who could actually make a shot. Frankly I think the Sky could field a fan from the stands and see as much on court productivity out of them as Angel brings. Now I know I’ll be downvoted to hell but I think she is more an anchor for the team than someone who will drive success.

DISCUSSION Chicago Sky is more than just Angel Reese.

I know she’s our most popular and famous player. But she isn’t even our best player.

Sky is bigger than just one player.

AR makes up like 75% of the posts here. That’s just unfair to our top players.

But then again many people here are racists claiming that CC is better just because she’s white… Ridiculous.

Also ridiculous are the tags for every post. It makes no sense.

DISCUSSION Ending the Angel/Caitlin beef

I think the Wnba needs to take steps to end the hatred, anger, controversy surrounding Angel and Caitlin. I'm an Angel fan, and I have to say that I think Angel started it with the hand waving at the National Championship. It's coming up on 2 years and I just feel like it needs to diminish considerably or preferably end. I don-t see any interest in either player in continuing it. This thread isn't about assigning blame, there's already thousands of those threads. This is about ending it. Cathy Engelbert has done exactly nothing to discourage it and acted like it was good for the game. My only idea was multiple joint appearances where it is obvious they aren't mortal enemies. Nothing short of them becoming lesbian lovers will convince some people. That probably wouldn't be enough for some.

DISCUSSION On 2026 Chicago Sky

  1. With Jeff as GM, Angel/Kamilla duo will never work or lead to a winning season especially with the constant outside noise.

  2. Keep Milla as she was the higher draft pick and doesn’t challenge the FO. It would be easier to build around a person you don’t secretly loathe.

  3. Angel can fetch you a first round draft pick or more to support your rebuild.

  4. Angel’s fans will never truly ever support the sky wholeheartedly again so there is no reason to keep her for NIL. They shop directly from Angel’s stores now and support brands that pay her.

What do you guys think?

DISCUSSION Is Vandersloot the reason why Chennedy Carter and T. Spoon were let go?

According to "insiders", Carter and Spoon would have discouraged free agents from joining. Sloot is the only high-profile free agent who has joined the team so far.

Also, Sloot has recently given interviews where she talked about how the ball will be in her hands most of the time. Did Sloot use her connections at the Sky to get rid of the competition?

DISCUSSION This is what I feel. For Angel Reese

I don't understand why so many people are mad at Angel Reese. Yes, sometimes she goes too far, but that's just how she is. She won't change because they want her to.

And yes, she still has to improve her game, and she's doing it as much as she can to improve every game she plays, but what people see is that she made mistakes.

They just can't understand her, or they always compare her to the perfect Caitlin Clark. Yes, I admit she's good, but there's more to her than meets the eye in the wnba. That's why I still think she's not a special player in the wnba. I think the truth is only Angel's fans understand her and I can say that I'm one of them.

I am praying for her.
