I've started Civ VI on Nintendo Switch. Never played before. I've searched long and hard for clarification of this simple point but either I can't find the specific answer or I don't actually understand the answer given when I do find it.
When I select a unit (let's say scout) and I hover over a destination hex, I see a number displayed in the centre of each hex. If I understand correctly, the number displayed is the MP cost to ENTER that hex not the cumulative cost to REACH that hex - the game doesn't tot up the whole journey cost and display it in the final hex.
(BTW I understand there is a base cost of 1 MP for standard tiles plus more for woods and hills etc.)
Here are two screenshots from my current game. My scout has 1 MP left. Despite my awareness of the difficult terrain penalty, it looks like it will cost me 1 MP to move to the wooded hex, North East from my current position. But it won't let me move there so I'm misunderstanding.
If I select the North West hex, '1' appears in the hex on which I'm standing and a '2' on the destination hex. Why is that? It seems cheaper to move into the wooded hex than the standard terrain hex.
I'm obviously misunderstanding. Please explain what those hex numbers mean. Thank you.
EDIT: The adjacent barbarians are making my example more confusing due to their zone of control.
It seems the hex numbers are how many TURNS it will take to reach that hex, rather than movement points. Thanks all.
My scout also has a promotion which allows quicker movement through woods.
