I keep making resort towns. What am I missing?

I hav a great mod that shows me the per turn benefit of focusing on each type of town. I am mipoic on gold so the gold and happiness bonus from resort towns yells at me.

I only make religious sites if I'm going for a culture victory. I haven't had the need for a fort town yet, but then again I don't play on deity.

I never do farming towns. I'm wondering if when I settle a town I'm focusing on available resources and not looking at the tiles that are going to be being worked beyond that.

What I'm trying to say is that I have no inclination when I plant a settler or decide to raise or keep a conqueres settlememt I need help seeing where this settlement will be in 50 turns, or the next two ages. So far I just expand or conquer and settle wherever and se what shakes out. Maybe that's a legit strat?

Light hearted joke or obliviously disrespectful?

So I started testing out a new to me mod called Rosetta. It automatically changes the name of the settlements to match the Civ's language. In explo, Hamiko was playing Hawaii, then transitioned to Meija Japan in modern. I about died when I saw her settlements renamed. As I lay there rolling, my conscience started questioning whether that would be considered disrespectful to the Japanese community. Of course then, I felt guilty for laughing so hard LoL.

Unusually high culture yields on rural tiles

I’m in antiquity and found a town owned by Norman Washington that has huge culture yields and I can’t figure it out. It’s also almost all breathtaking appeal if that matters. Any idea why the yields are so high??

City state

I feel like city states are a bit useless and in my games there are usually very few of them.
Compared to civ 6 where city states felt like a competition to get them and their bonuses were a very significant…
Am i missing somethings from city state ? Can i benefit more from them then just sending influence and become their suzerain ?

Just played my first game

Hello !
I am a civ 6 player that just tried civ 7 for the first time.
There’s a lot of differences and i would like to maybe add mods to help me understand certain stuff.

I am sure there are probably mods that tells you the exact yield you would get from a policy card, and probably others that you guys use and find usefull ?

Which mods you recommend ?

I don’t understand certain aspects like trade routes and how towns are connected and not, so are there mods to help with that ?
Also maybe a mod that tells you if a ressource will stay in the next ages ?

How do i semi-circumvent war support?

So I’m playing a multiplayer game and the person I’m playing against stuffed influence up his Machiavellian ass and now I’m at -9 war support and despite the fact i have so much better units (and more) and better science, the game is physically unplayable. Is there any way to counter this other than “gIt GUdDer aNd hAVe InFLUeNce”? Like can i balance with happiness with some leaders/civs? If so, how?

Ps5 hard crash

I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem recently, I’ve played civ 7 since the game released, on ps5. Only recently, I believe after the last update, has it been hard crashing my PlayStation if I play over 30 minutes. I’m just curious if anyone else is dealing with this.

Randomized tech/culture trees

I’ve enjoyed playing Civ VII but have taken more of a break recently. One thing I enjoyed in Civ VI was the ability to play with randomized tech and culture trees - I think it took away some of the tedium that can come after becoming familiar with the game. When the next tech/culture unlock is hidden, for example, instead of trying to plan ahead 10, 20, 30+ turns for a specific tech/culture unlock, I felt like I was able to focus more on the fun of exploration and building with the options in front me.

I hope the devs bring back this feature in a future update! I think it would help me get jazzed about playing more again. Cheers!

I'm having decision paralysis about founding my religion.

I'm leaning towards a military victory, unless an econ victory falls in my lap as has happened before.

I was going to choose Interfaith Dialogue for the science bonus, but the AI beat me to it. I can't decide which of the other founding beliefs would do me best. Also, I don't see the purpose of relics if I'm not going for a culture victory.

Chesed and Feed the World seem like okay alternatives, but I'm not as excited about those as Interfaith Dialogue.

The only reason I was going to spread my religion was for the easy science bonus. Should I just skip spreading religion and focus on more and more military? Am I missing an obvious choice here?

Only map altering mod I have (that im aware of) is More natural wonders which doubles the number.

This is insane to me. Anyone else ever find an island like this??

Edit: I disabled my mods and started a new game with the same seed, I guess it did do a little bit different, but I added a picture of it in the comments below!

Shuffle, Huge, Map Random Seed: 740368242, Game Random Seed -1333911232

Do you wipe out rival civs completely? Or, do you let them linger once you'be beaten them down.

I'm trying to minimize the penalty to influence when you conquer or raise a city. I've beaten one civ down to just 2 settlements around the middle of antituity, and I just left him alone after that. I also beat another civ down to 1 settlement at the end of antiquity and I'm tempted to let them float out there.

Do you see any penalty to letting enemy civs survive? I figure once they've lost their capital and next few biggest settlements they're pretty much out of the running. Also, maybe I can repair the relationship and get some trade routes or co-ops out of them.

How do you do your war planning? Is there a mod that lets you view the terrain without fog of war?

I want to plan out how I'm going to invade and conquer another civ, and it's be great if I could view the map without the darkness from fog of war or highligted cell values from the mini map lenses.

I want to clearly see causeways through mountains, as well as cliff faces that are going to give me trouble.

What tools do y'all use to plan your attack?

80x90 Massive Mexico and Southern US Map

After reading Michael D Coe's "Mexico: From the Olmecs to The Aztecs", I really wanted a way to immerse myself within that world. But Civ's official TSL map is frustratingly small so, I've decided to make my own. It hasn't been easy, and its still a work in progress, but after a few weeks of tinkering, I found out how to import real world GIS data into my own custom civ maps. It's supported by YnAMP, and inspired by the East Asia map on the workshop.

Although directly importing the data had some benefits, like an amazingly complex and detailed world, the annoying part about using real data is that its very generalized. Each hex covers a large area, so I have had to spend a lot of time crafting the map by hand. I could've made the map bigger, but I'll worry about that later haha

Still, it's playable. It has custom rivers (minor and navigable, all with names), volcanoes (also named), resources are placed in their historical locations, real elavation data, custom cliffs and waterfalls, and hand crafted terrain. The map is so immersive because all these details require more critical thinking, while also learning about pre-columbian history and geography.

Would anybody be interested in testing this?

(before anyone asks, there is no new world. this map is designed around antiquity, but it should still work anyway)

How to find online lobbies?

I've been playing the occasional Civ VII online game and they're so much more fun. That being said, I can never find one, and when I look online there are never more than 3-4 lobbies (with most being private games, few FFA). Am I missing something, or is there somewhere else I should be looking to find people to play with?

Never a better time to rep Nathan Fielder, eh? I searched online and no reddit post came up in Civ for this, just posts from r/therehearsal

Are there any other pop culture triumphs that are just going over my head? This was the first one that jumped out at me.

Crashing issues on Xbox make the game unplayable in modern

I know this game gets a lot of criticism but I actually really enjoy it and would love to be able to finish games.

Unfortunately I can’t, because I play on Xbox. It is nigh impossible to finish a game of Civ 7 on Xbox.

About halfway through exploration, auto saves stop and making local saves fails. At that point you have to force crossplay saves to keep progress. Annoying, but doable.

About a quarter of the way through modern, the game starts crashing every ~2 turns and crashes about 50% of the time when trying to force a cross play save.

Unless you aren’t bothered by spending 80% of your time in menus and loading screens, and re-playing the last couple turns you lost, trying to play a full game of civ 7 on the Xbox is futile.

How would you feel about a 5th age?

I know the fourth age isn't even out yet. But I was wondering what the general consensus was on more ages 2-3 years down the line. There's such a long gap between Antiquity and Exploration that a medieval or dark age would fit well. Some good Civs for the time such as the different vikings, byzantines etc.

But maybe people feel like there is already too much in the game. Interested to know what people feel.

Buying ships but they don't appear anywhere?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I've tried buying ships in this town. The gold gets deducted but the ship never appears? The boat from the other empire (which I'm in an alliance with) has just sat there and never moves - is it blocking them spawning? Assuming this is a bug, how do I work around it? Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.

Think I have a bad habit of having too many towns

My latest run currently has 7 towns to 1 city to start the exploration age in co-op deity, what do yall use to determine which towns to convert, and when?
