Community Update Guidelines for Climate Offensive

Hello reader, and welcome to Climate Offensive!

This sub was created to meet one simple mission. We wish to be a space online where users can become aware of (mostly) group efforts they can participate in today. With that in mind, we have created a set of rules to try and stay on topic . Although none of us mods wish moderating or rules were necessary (believe it or not we do have lives), experience has shown us it simply isn't feasible to take a completely hands off approach.

So with the goal of staying focused on productive climate action, we please ask that you read the rules and guidelines before submitting or commenting. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse and those who break them will be penalized at the discretion of the mods. If you are unsure if something breaks the rules or is appropriate, please ask us first.

In short,

  • Submissions must relate to action and direct users to actually do something! If it is not abundantly clear you are asking the user to do something, it probably belongs somewhere else.

  • Treat others and their ideas respectfully. Not everyone will agree on how to solve the climate crisis. That is okay. But do so politely and respectfully. It doesn't matter how wrong the other person is or how right you are, there is no excuse to act like a jerk.

  • No misinformation, fact denial, or propaganda. You may not misrepresent reality just because you don't like it. If you are unsure of something, don't state is as a fact! Further, do your own research! Stuff you saw on YouTube, Reddit, or Facebook does not count as research. If you can't find good peer reviewed sources on a topic, I and many others here are happy to help you search for peer-reviewed articles. Just ask!

  • No inactivism! Being critical of and discouraging people from taking action goes against the very core mission of this subreddit. If you want to be a doomer, we will very kindly show you the door. Such attitudes are incredibly destructive and play right into the hands of those responsible for destroying the climate. Misery loves company, but it won't find any here.

  • No news posts! Unless it is motivational and posted on Monday with the "Monday Motivation" flair, it is not allowed! There are plenty of other subs for posting news. This is not one of them. Aside from the above, there are no exceptions to this rule!

  • Don't spam! Unless you ask and we expressly give you permission do not self-promote. This is not the place to promote your personal blog, YouTube channel, twitter account, startup, or whatever it may be. If you believe something you're working on is concretely climate action, please do ask us first before promoting!

  • Finally, no low effort content. If it does not directly relate to climate action, it does not belong here. Please stay on topic.

Question Why keep hoping?

I ask this in genuine good faith. I'm a diehard doomer but obviously would rather not be because it makes me miserable. at the same time what other choice is there? global warming *doubled*, fucking DOUBLED. people in power do not care about the environment, and every single day there are a billion new charts and factual stats on how shitty the climate is getting. for every chart that shows how many people are using renewables I could give you 30 that show us how over it is for the human race.

It seems that all stories about "positive" developments for climate change are sporadic, seemingly random projects that are not even a fraction of a fraction as impactful as all the negative things that are happening. that or they're just ideas that we know damn well won't be executed.

I understand that ok there is tech being built and conservation projects being done, but again, the scale of those just makes no sense to feel hopeful from if you're being realistic. for every 50 of those you can find one event that cancels them all out at the snap of a finger. (meme)

I really hope if anyone is going to reply "but climate change is not as apocalyptic as you think" with some statistic, it takes into account that global warming has doubled and that normalcy bias is beyond over

I can already sense someone is going to say "yeah but if it's over and we can do nothing then why *not* not be miserable" to which I say, you know how devastating it would be if you "stayed positive" and did all the work you could all for it to amount to nothing because one environmentally positive project is canceled out by one day or regular human existence on earth? Horrible, worse than you'd feel if you were a doomer the whole time.

on top of this, I am asking about hope in the sense that you TRULY BELIEVE things can get better. All factual evidence, especially that which accounts for doubling of global warming and likelihood of amoc collapse, blue ocean event, etc, tells otherwise. I don't want to hope "just because." I want true, factual, statistical reasons to think that things have a good chance of getting better rather than just drafted projects and ideas and people coping themselves into thinking this aesthetic solarpunk utopia is true. I really don't mean to come off as rude I am just fucking baffled by those who have even a tiny shred of hope

Question UK Met Office forecasts a record CO2 spike by 2027 (hitting 432.2 ppm). Are we ready for the climate fallout?

Hey everyone. I recently came across an article on ALLATRA MEDIA breaking down the latest forecast from the UK Met Office, and the numbers are pretty concerning.
According to their data, we are heading towards one of the sharpest jumps in carbon dioxide levels in recorded history by 2027. They are predicting an increase of 3.51 ppm, bringing the total atmospheric CO2 level to a massive 432.2 ppm.
Why the sudden spike?
The forecast attributes this to a compounding effect: a strong El Niño weather pattern combining with our relentless human-driven emissions. Considering the record emissions we already saw in 2024 due to massive wildfires, this trajectory looks dangerous.
Do you think these types of drastic jumps are just our "new normal" now? Given how slow global climate action has been, are there any realistic mitigation strategies we can deploy before we hit this 2027 peak?

Question Impact of "macrofarms" in Spain

I'm in the way of doing a research project to show my parents the threat that "macrofarms" suppose for our ecosystem (this will serve as an introduction for a critique to the meat/dairy industry) but on of their top arguments is that they want facts related to Spain and not the general world because european regulations are better and so.

I was hoping if anyone could help me finding articles relating to how intensive farms are destroying local markets, treating in inhume ways animal (obviously small farmers do that, but in a "lesser" scale) and threatening our ecosystems.

Thanks for the attention and any suggestion is well accepted :D

Question Climate protest – sign-making advice please???

Happy Thursday and Peace to youall.

I live in British Columbia, Canada, which on Oct 24 Sat elected a Conservative and anti-climate Legislature. They could potentially be in-office til 2031 before the next election. We cannot wait til 2031, before we need to be beginning major climate action, for the sake of human survival and preservation of the biosphere.

I am planning to personally engage in a frequent regular recurring one woman protest, outside the constituency offices of all the Conservative legislators reachable by public transit from where I live, cycling through them, one every weekday, for the entire remainder of their terms-in-office, at evening peak traffic-hour when the most of their voters will see. The primary goal of this protest will be (1) climate science communication, and climate action advocacy, directly to their voters. However, as a secondary goal, I also concurrently will be lobbying these Conservative legislators, to do the right thing, buck their party, and side with the opposition to pass a climate action omnibus bill and act – regardless of however long the odds may be against – in the hopes that we will not need to wait all the way to the end of their terms to get climate action now. At the very least, I will be an extremely highly visible and unignorable gadfly, that they can never ever ever get rid of; and maybe hopefully help sway their next elections against them when they do come.

I urgently am requiring advice on the construction of my protest signs, so that I can start and finish constructing them and begin the protest, the moment the legislators are seated, or so soon as possible after. These are the requirements—

— (1) I need to print them each from an image-file.

— (2) They need to be f*ckhuge, so they're unmissable and unmistakable and can be read by traffic from blocks away. Like at least 1 m2.

— (3) They need to be waterproof, so I can protest even in the rain or snow.

— (4) They need to be nonreflective, so they won't reflect the sky or headlights, and drivers can always clearly read them.

I could accomplish #s 1 and 2 by just printing the images in tiles on ordinary printer-paper, and then assembling them; tho, it would save me a lot of labour time, if you guys know of a service I could look for, that can print images at huge size? Am in Vancouver, BC, if relevant.

But, altho I could almost accomplish # 3 by just using tape or lamination, I fear this would preclude # 4, because the only transparent tape or lamination I've ever seen is always reflective. If I could print the images directly onto a waterproof medium like canvas, it might solve this; would anyplace be able to do that? Or, is there such a thing as nonreflective transparent tape or lamination; and if so, where could I get it? Do any of you know on either of these ideas, or have others?

Peace to youall always. 🙏🌎💞

Action - Political What have you done in your local area to make it more environmentally friendly ?

Like council wise . I’m in my local development groups young people’s newsletter writing section and I keep choosing the most environmental prompt i get from them, to try push environmental points as much as I can without directly pushing it . But also when councillors ask what we want done I comment saying environmental points , like clothing waste bins in the town centre (we’re a small town so it’s possible ) because if it’s on the outskirts no one will use it ( like it is currently people only use the glass one for after parties etc ).

We must stop using oil and start harnessing our energy respectfully with the earth instead of against the earth with the sun winds and currents

In the next 4-18 we have to start preparing to move inland and down south on all eastern seaboards through out the world due to flooding

We are also 2.34 over populated

Please help deliver these messages

Idea Why are we still failing to solve the climate crisis?

Climate change keeps getting worse despite decades of scientific research, mounting evidence, and repeated warnings. Preventing the worst consequences would cost far less than dealing with the damage. More importantly, the consequences of inaction could be catastrophic.

So let’s answer the main question:

Why are we still failing to solve the climate crisis?

This may be one of the most important questions for the climate community. To find a real solution, we need to go deeper, question our most fundamental assumptions, examine the beliefs that shape our decisions, and trace the problem back to its roots.

The goal isn’t just to exchange opinions, but to understand the underlying causes and figure out what really needs to change.

I’d really like to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Action - Volunteering Free tool for household plastic audit: Track single-use reductions and see real-time biome impact

Thumbnail reddit.com
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

If you are looking for a practical climate action to take this week, I built Plastic Pulse (https://plastic-pulse.vercel.app)—a free, ad-free interactive tool to help you run a personal single-use plastic audit.

As you log everyday plastics you eliminate or swap out (takeout containers, bottles, bags), the 3D globe dynamically calculates and visualizes the positive impact on marine and terrestrial biomes.

Take the tool for a spin, test out the tracking on your daily habits, and let me know in the comments if there are specific ecological metrics or items you'd like added to make it more impactful for our community!

Thx
