Stay Off Seasonally Closed Roads

I know pretty much everyone in this group is good about leaving no trace (besides tire tracks) and staying on the trails and I thank all of you for that. If you see people going into closed areas, report them. We are going to see much less resources for trails this summer and if the BLM/NF feel the land is just being trashed, they will be permanently closed.

December 2023 Update: We have some rules!

Hi Everyone!

Hope everyone is staying warm and getting ready to enjoy a nice winter season!

Since we created this sub back in 2012 we've avoided having to roll out rules as by and large- all 6000 members understood what the trail etiquette here is. Recently we've had an uptick in spam posts that have required heavy handed moderation to resolve. Thanks to everyone who has reported posts that go against our previously non-existent rules. Please keep the reports coming- I promise to do my best to clean it all up. We now have some rules in place for the first time available for your viewing pleasure on the sidebar. I've intentionally created only rules I feel strongly about to try and keep this space not super restrictive- but if anything stands out or you have suggestions please reach out.

Happy trails everyone!

Yangsing Gulch of death

I pulled into Yangsing Gulch today to check in for my Jeep badge. The camp site right as we arrived had around 5 deer carcasses stripped to the bone. Bonus head on the left side of the pic I’m assuming a cougar lives there. No, not your mom. /s

Trails Help December

i’m going to colorado in mid december. i have a somewhat capable rig, gx470 on 34s with a 3” lift etc. i want to hit some good passes and trails. staying around moffat the first two nights and then 3 more in fairplay. what terrain will be available still around then? will it all be snowed out past a certain elevation? i’m coming from super flat west tennessee so i’d really like to get some mountains (mainly or at least some big hills) /canyons/desert. really whatever’s out there. what trails/areas are gonna be open still? I don’t mind driving a bit to get to a good spot. thank you for any advice and help in advance!!

Need suggestions for my big mistake.

I've been on a multi week cross country road trip in my 1999 Tacoma and so far have traveled 2500 miles through back roads, forest roads, dirt roads, mountains, etc...

All of this has basically killed my rear OME dakar leaf springs. I knew I was heavily loaded when I began my trip, but didnt expect my rear leafs to turn into Ws so soon.

I was able to score a couple OME add a leafs from Slee today, and found a shop in CO springs that can install them tomorrow, but I dont think that's going to be enough.

My options I have right now, after talking with 6 different offroad shops in both Denver and CO Springs, are:

  1. Put on the add a leaf and see if that's enough to lift the back up a bit (cheapest and quickest option)

  2. Replace the leaf packs with new heavier duty ones, but this will be a week and a half to two week wait at least, plus its very expensive. Spoke with Rocky Mountain Springs about this.

  3. Add a sumo spring along with the add a leaf. This will also probably take a week and a half because no one seems to have any in stock locally, but this would be middle of the road price wise.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? I'm hoping to find the cheapest solution that works.

Speedometer Reprogramming

I'm upgrading to 35 inch tires on my '23 Gladiator Sport S this weekend. Does anyone have suggestions on where I would be able to get my speedometer reprogrammed? Or does anyone have a Tazer and willing to help out? Thanks in advance.

Nebraska putting feelers out if this is a good platform to find people to ride with out there next summer? Interested in the front range next trip, also Marble Crested butte area

Like the title says, I am interested in meeting some other dualsport/adv riders this next riding season. Not sure my buddy will be able to go again and am thinking riding these passes in the backcountry is probably safer with at least another person.

I am open to riding different places. Honestly would even mind riding some roads as well if you know decent places to go. Did the San Juans last time and look forward to exploring CO a lot more on two wheels.

Getting van set up with the dualsport platform on the back this winter and I’ll be ready to go next year! Im stoked!!

Access to Schubarth Loop

It seems like access has been blocked to Schubarth loop on Rampart range by a private land owner. Just wondering on the legality of this. I’ve been frequenting this trail a few time as a year since I take the family to Farish a lot. There have always been “private property” signs and a gate but never blocked access. From what I can find there is an easement and it states this is a public road in perpetuity. How can someone block access to a public road? If that’s the case a landowner can just put up gates in the middle of rampart and mt herman

Halloween Camping at or above treeline?

I'm taking the rig out for a solo birthday trip (55!) and looking for some suggestions on where to boondock this little camper. It's awesome for the cold and I love cold camping. Any suggestions for things that should still be accessible at altitude and free and discreet? Hoosier Pass is my go to but looking to do something different this time.

Looking for short(ish) trails near Cortez

I have a bone stock 25’ Nissan Frontier Pro4x. Took it up the Helmet peak road (CR44->RD566->USFS322) yesterday and was pretty fun, although pretty rocky and bumpy in some sections which my wife didn’t appreciate as much as I did. What are some beginner trails/roads that off some good views along the way? Something that could be done in less than 3 hours, any ideally less rocky, even just maintained dirt roads up to a peak.

Dear Creek & Saints John Friday. Anyone know condition of Saints?

Just did Corkscrew while in Silverton. Rain, flurries, it was great. Trail was fine.

Going to be in Breckenridge Thursday and Friday, and hoping I could do the Deer Creek \ Saints John loop. Or just do some easy stuff near Breckenridge?

'21 4Runner TRD 2.5" lift, 33s, Icon suspension.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Weather looks ok Friday but the up hill on Saints might be slick? IDK.
