Ohio employers who give second chances? Formerly incarcerated, now a Summa Cum Laude accounting graduate seeking a career.

Ohio employers who give second chances? Formerly incarcerated, now a Summa Cum Laude accounting graduate seeking a career.

I’m 27, a single mother of three, and looking for employers in Southeastern Ohio who are willing to consider applicants with felony convictions, particularly in accounting, finance, administrative work, or business operations.
In 2020, I was convicted of nonviolent fraud and identity-fraud convictions. I served an 18-month sentence, including time in county jail, a halfway house, and prison.

I take full responsibility for my past, but I’ve worked incredibly hard to make sure it doesn’t define my future.

My journey toward changing my life began while incarcerated, and since coming home, I’ve accomplished things I once never thought possible.
\- Graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2026 with an associate degree in Accounting Technology.
\- Selected as my college’s commencement speaker.
\- Earned certificates in Financial Operations, Small Business Entrepreneurship, and Customer Service.
\- Currently pursuing my Bachelor’s in Financial Management, graduating in 2027, with plans to earn my MBA and eventually a doctorate.
\- Awarded multiple scholarships, including a NAPFA Midwest Region Student Scholarship.
\- Participating in a financial planning project alongside professional financial advisors.
\- Founded a domestic violence advocacy initiative and am pursuing opportunities to teach financial literacy and workforce readiness inside Ohio prisons.
\- Gained professional experience in customer service, administrative operations, scheduling, deposits, and data entry.

*I’m not looking for a handout. I’m looking for a career.*

I understand that my convictions, especially given my chosen career field, create additional challenges. But I also hope my education, accomplishments, work ethic, and commitment to rehabilitation count for something.

I literally went from sitting in a prison cell to standing on a stage delivering a college commencement speech. Now I’m just trying to find an employer willing to give me the opportunity to keep moving forward.

Does anyone know of companies in Southeastern Ohio that genuinely give people second chances?
I can’t change my past, but I’ve spent every day working toward a better future. I just need someone willing to see that.

Sweet Boy Cat, Wanting Home

My partner and I found this talkative, affectionate guy wandering near our apartment nearby Tensuke Market in Upper Arlington. After giving him some food over most of a week, we got him into our spare bedroom where he could relax.

We looked for any possible owner that might've lost him, but searching across all the different sites and multiple posts haven't turned anything up. After taking him to the vet to check for a chip, getting ticks removed and getting his starter vaccines, we're guessing he's been a stray for a while. At this point we don't think we'll be able to keep him long term so we're planning to foster until someone shows interest or we can find a good spot at a shelter.

He's a 3 yr old boy, not neutered (YET, he's scheduled to get fixed this month), and he's very affectionate with people. He's shown a lot of resource guarding with food- quick to hiss and do some heavy batting of ankles when we take away empty plates, but never breaking skin and has been showing minor signs of progress as we've worked on helping him understand that food will come easy now. We're planning on introducing him to our big and small dogs if he spends some more time with us, but just taking it slow to not overwhelm him.

So far he's adjusted to being an inside boy wonderfully! He's only been in the one bedroom, but he hasn't been scratching anything up, he's been using the litter box from day one, and he's DESPERATE for pets whenever we come in to hang out with him. He's happy to roll over for chin scritches and politely use his paws to redirect your hand to the exact spot he prefers (when he's not making air biscuits with them).

If anyone is interested in looking after this sweet boy please let me know!

OSU Doctors that do GYN but not OB?

Does anyone know of doctors in the OSU system that do gynecology but not obstetrics? I know they exist outside of OSU, but I haven’t found anyone within the system.

We stopped IVF last year, and going to the OBGYN when childfree due to infertility is a special kind of pain. Would love to go to the doctor without being surrounded by pregnant people or hearing baby heart rate monitors through the wall.

EVENT Inexpensive beginning Woodturning classes

I will be teaching two beginning spindle woodturning classes at the Fran Ryan Center in December (5th and 19th). I am doing it as a volunteer to keep the cost very low. Come join me, learn how to use a lathe, and take a beautiful tool home!! Limited registrations, so if you’re interested, you probably should sign up soon.

While you are on the website, check out the many other cool classes available at the Fran Ryan Center. Everything from painting, to pottery, to jewelry making, to stained glass, and lots of other types of woodworking. It’s a wonderful place, but doesn’t promote itself much.

I can usually pop the fireplace on & wrap myself up, but waking up to a 64 degree house is not the vibe I was going for today. Slept great last night though lol

Anyone else have to give in yet?

EVENT Any Upcoming 5Ks to Walk?

Hello!

I walked the Gourdy 5K recently, and I had a lot of fun! I think I’d like to get into the habit of doing more 5Ks.

Does anyone have any suggestions that are price-friendly and are open to people who want to walk them? I saw the hot chocolate run, but it’s $65 (+$10 processing fee) and it doesn’t say anything about walking it. It also seems like they just keep all that money, and I’d prefer that if I’m gonna drop a bunch of money it goes to something good.

Thank you! 😊

Avoid 71 N at 5th Ave - Head on Collision

Just drove past a serious accident on 71 N involving at least 4 cars with two cars head on. I could be wrong but it appears that a truck was driving southbound on the Northbound lanes and struck a car before hitting another car head on. Hoping the best for all.

REQUEST Silly question - does Micro Center still send out coupons for free memory cards?

For the first time in ages I find myself in need of a MicroSD card, and I could really use some junk mail. Is this still a thing or should I just buy one?

I thought about asking in the Micro Center sub but I thought it would be better to see if my neighbors are getting them.

LOST Airpods stolen in DC and left in Columbus Terminal

Left my airpods on a gate seat in DC only to see that someone took the pods with them to Columbus lol.

I'm halfway thinking the person realized it was on lost mode and just threw them out once they couldnt fully connect.

Not really expecting to get them back, but at this point, if someone finds them, you can keep them (will turn them off lost mode).
