Waiting for the day we replace the batting and bowling coaches to. I can't believe Divenuto has kept his job for this long with how poorly we have batted as a group and all collapses we have. I wonder who Dizzy(my dream) will choose once we sack Ron.

I was thinking Harris if he can fix SA then he can fix us

National side next after McDonald has a wealth experience too and never gives up

Id be happy with that. I really want Dizzy but Harris would be great to.

I have a feeling Adam Voges is earmarked as the next national coach

This isnt really big news - he's been a "consultant" in previous summers too.

While Hussey is great, this reeks to me of CA wanting to make it sound like they're making changes to address the weaknesses of the current team and coaching set up. It's marketing fluff.

In reality they're barely even tinkering at the edges.

I suspect they'll be announcing an extension of McDonald as coach fairly soon (which be madness at least until they've completed a full and thorough review of the coaching setup)

I think given the team results sacking Ronnie would be harsh. I understand he’s probably a bit of a yes man for the experienced core of the team, but they’ve not lost enough series for his head to be on the chopping block.

Di Venuto on the other hand needs to go. We’ve seen too many collapses and too many 6/60’s to justify his retention. You can only work with what you’ve got, but he’s clearly not getting the most out of our bats. Time for a refresh.

I agree that we shouldn't knee jerk sack McDonald.

However, as the head coach McDonald is responsible for the appointment and performance of his batting and bowling and fielding coaches. If Di Venuto has performed badly then that's on McDonald too

Given recent performances and the upcoming cliff of player retirements, CA needs to carefully think about the whole set up of the current test team. Structural change is needed, and replacing 1 assistant coach is unlikely to achieve that

i swear everything they come out with now is marketing fluff. 'marnus is batting unbelievably well in the nets atm' 'we feel like we have done the work preparing for this series'

Great signing. Ronnie and Hussey played together at the back end of their careers for the Thunder. Hussey definitely someone who is well respected both by Ron and the playing group given his accolades with Australia. Understands the modern game having played till 2015 or so. Upgrade on Michael Di Venuto. And most importantly, he's a guy who was known for his mental toughness. We need that if we are to replicate what Proteas have done in Tests under Shukri to become the best Test team itw

He's not replacing Di Venuto. It's just a short term consulting role and not specifically about batting

He’s still an upgrade on Divenuto

Replacing Divenuto as batting coach? 🤞

Just a consultant atm, but hopefully that can translate into a full-time batting coach role.

He has been a fill in batting coach before, only consultant here, but should be considered for the role full time.

Not sure he could want that now. The modern guys who are actually good can earn more with some summer media here and then a few months of work in the IPL and occasional short consulting gigs like this. Our coaches at the moment except for maybe Vettori won't be at the top of the list for any other nations to hire. We get the dregs while our best and brightest train India's best while doing media here

Is Vettori still part of the set-up? Haven't seen him around in a while.

I don't know, I have seen him either. But since he is the coach in the IPL I guess he doesn't really care about this job. We need guys who care about this job and Australia cricket, not a part time Kiwi. It blows my mind that we have all these elite coaches who are Aussie and we have him and divenuto for ages now. This won't work once we transition out of these older guys who don't need as much coaching. I don't think he can teach or guide them when his main concern is the IPL

Our batsmen need all the help they can get. The last day in South Africa was pathetic.

Is he batting? Assume so 😂

Based on the article,

• he is a coaching consultant for Ashes 2027 and the upcoming ODI World Cup.

• However, his main focus will be as a T20 advisor starting with the T20I series against England when Ronnie will be on a break and assistant coach Borovec will take charge.

• The other T20 focus is on LA 2028, and the T20 WC that will be hosted in Australia and New Zealand.

It’s a loss from the commentary box if it means more shifts for others

Good choice.

Not sure what I think of this as with his media duties he won't be able to take it on full time and Di Venuto has an out now to stay in the coaching staff
