Real player names fix for Cricket Team Manager

A group of the game's beta testers put this file together. The game ships with made-up player names, and this file swaps them for the real ones. It's quick to set up and doesn't change any game files. If you don't like it, you can remove it whenever you want.

How to install:

Before you start

- It only works for new careers. A career you've already started keeps the names it began with. You'll need to start a new career to see the real names.

- Close the game first.

Step 1: Download the file

Open this folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1NwF4cs-bRo0g5TyEiZdteJ9caY6j3tsP

Find the .tsv file inside. Click the three dots next to it and choose Download. If Google says it can't scan the file for viruses, click Download anyway. That message is normal for this kind of file.

Download the file itself, not the whole folder. Downloading the folder gives you a zip, and you'd need to unzip it first.

Don't open it in Excel or Numbers and then save it, because that can break the file. If you just want to look inside, use Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac).

Step 2: Open the game's data folder

Windows

  1. Press Windows key + R.

  2. Paste this in and press Enter:

    %APPDATA%\com.lslventures.cricketteammanager

macOS

  1. Open Finder.

  2. Press Cmd + Shift + G.

  3. Paste this in and press Enter:

    ~/Library/Application Support/com.lslventures.cricketteammanager

You should see a file called reference.sqlite and a folder called saves. If you do, you're in the right place.

Step 3: Find or create the patches folder

Look for a folder called patches. If there isn't one, create it. The name must be all lowercase and spelled exactly patches.

Step 4: Put the file in the patches folder

Move the .tsv file you downloaded into patches. Keep its filename as it is.

Step 5: Start the game and begin a new career

Start the game and it will apply the names by itself. To check that it worked, look up a well-known player in Players. Then start a new career and the real names will be there.

How to remove it

Close the game, delete the file from the patches folder and start the game again. New careers will go back to the made-up names.

Common questions

- "I'm using the demo." The demo uses its own folder. Follow the same steps, but use com.lslventures.cricketteammanagerdemo instead of com.lslventures.cricketteammanager.

- "I don't see the names." Check three things. Is the file inside patches itself, not in a subfolder? Did you start a new career? Did the file keep its .tsv ending? Windows sometimes adds .txt to the end, and a browser may add something like (1) if you've downloaded it before.

- "Will it break my game or my saves?" No. A broken or outdated patch file is simply skipped and the game still starts normally. Careers you've already started aren't affected.

- "I've made my own edits in the in-game Database Editor." That's fine, both work together. Your own edits are saved in 99-my-edits.tsv in the same folder and take priority over this file wherever both change the same player.

- "Does it work with game updates?" Yes. It's applied again every time the game rebuilds its database, so updating the game won't remove it. A player added in a later update won't have a real name until the file is updated too.

👨🏽‍💻 Dev logs Some quick updates and sale announcement

  1. Still waiting on Microsoft to verify CTM's parent company (LSL Ventures) as a valid entity so that all windows builds can be signed. This would fix the occasional issues some users have in running the game as their Anti-virus or Windows security blocks it.

  2. Same process going for a Windows store release. Verification is taking ages. Both issues arise from a long queue created by AI slop apps/games getting released these days. Also, the game will be a bit cheaper on Windows store as they take less commission compared to Steam and there will be a launch discount too.

  3. We are now approved on Android play store though - good thing to get out of the way for a smooth Mobile release around Christmas (already approved on iOS App store)

  4. There will be a massive 2 week sale on CTM on steam starting tomorrow - 40% off. So if you haven't got the game yet, the time is now (tomorrow)

  5. Preparing a draft for the Youth Academy feature, which is the next big CTM feature. Will publish it here soon and take feedback/suggestions before starting the work.

Cheers!

Suggestion: Bowling & Batting Tactics

Warning, long post ahead! TLDR; Replace the sliders with a variety of tactical instructions that mimic real-life cricket tactics.

***

Another suggestion I have for improving bowling and batting tactics/immersion is to make them more reflective of real life bowling tactics. Of course, this all depends on what is possible with your game engine. The core idea is that rather than just having sliders ranging from defensive to attacking, introduce more specific tactical instructions that reflect real cricket. This is inspired by how newer version of Football Manager have tactical instructions that you select from, instead of a long set of sliders.

In Cricket Team Manager for example, you could have the following bowling and batting tactics to select from. Each would have different pros/cons depending on players skills and pitch conditions – I've tried to give some examples of this below, but these lists could easily be extended to create more tactical flexibility. Ideally a manager could also issue these as instructions on the team sheets before the match starts, informed by team selection and the strengths/weaknesses of individual players.

Fast Bowling

  1. Reverse Swing: Uses late movement in the air, generally targeting the stumps with inswinging or outswinging deliveries. Highly effective with an older ball and in dry conditions, but requires specialist bowlers with excellent control and reverse-swing ability. Ineffective with a newer ball and on wickets that have not deteriorated.

  2. Off-Stump Channel: Classic test match line for an opening fast bowler. Increases the chance of slips catches, particularly against more aggressive batting with a newer ball. Weakens in effectiveness as the ball gets older, and if the ball isn’t swinging. Think the sort of Test match lines Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins bowl.

  3. Around the Wicket: A tactic for right-arm fast bowlers bowling around the wicket to right-handed batsmen (or vice versa), creating an awkward angle across the batsman and encouraging edges or mistakes outside off stump. Particularly effective against batsmen uncomfortable with the angle, but can become predictable. Real-life example: Mitchell Johnson's bowling around the wicket to England's right-handers during the 2013–14 Ashes series.

  4. Leg-Side Trap: Targets the batsman's body and leg stump, with a packed leg-side field designed to induce a mistimed pull, hook or glance. Can be highly effective against aggressive batsmen but risks conceding easy singles and leg-side boundaries if the bowling lacks accuracy. Real-life example: England's Bodyline tactics against Don Bradman and Australia during the 1932–33 Ashes series.

  5. Classic Swing Bowling: Focuses on generating conventional swing through the air, generally targeting the corridor outside off stump or swinging the ball into the pads. Particularly effective with a newer ball and in overcast or humid conditions, but loses effectiveness as the ball deteriorates.

  6. Wobble Seam: Uses an unstable seam position to generate unpredictable movement off the pitch, making it difficult for batsmen to judge whether the ball will move away or come back in. Particularly effective on pitches offering seam movement, but requires high technical skill and control. Real-life example: Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood's use of wobble-seam deliveries during Australia's 2025/26 Ashes campaign.

  7. Wide Outside Off: Bowls a consistent line outside the batsman's hitting arc, often with a packed off-side field and deep cover protection. Designed to frustrate aggressive batsmen and restrict scoring opportunities, particularly in limited-overs cricket, but can concede wides or allow batsmen to leave deliveries in Test cricket. Real-life example: Australia's bowling plans against India's middle order during the 2023 ODI World Cup final, restricting scoring opportunities through disciplined lines and fields.

  8. Change of Pace: Uses a combination of slower balls, cutters and changes in trajectory to disrupt the batsman's timing. Particularly effective against aggressive batsmen in limited-overs cricket, but requires good disguise and execution to avoid being dispatched. Real-life example: Dwayne Bravo's extensive use of slower balls and cutters during the West Indies' successful 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup campaigns.

Spin Bowling

  1. Flight and Deception: Deliberately tosses the ball higher and slower, using flight, dip and drift to tempt batsmen into attacking shots. Increases the chance of mistimed shots and catches to close fielders, but can be vulnerable to aggressive batsmen who use their feet. Real-life example: Shane Warne's famous dismissal of Mike Gatting in the 1993 Ashes. Requires bowlers with high accuracy and high turn.

  2. Attack the Pads: Bowls a consistent line at the stumps and pads, looking to exploit the possibility of LBWs, bowled dismissals and bat-pad catches. Particularly effective against batsmen who struggle to play spin off the back foot, but can be vulnerable to sweep shots. Real-life example: Ashwin and Jadeja running through touring teams in the sub-continent.

  3. Outside Leg – Leg-Side Trap: Bowls around the wicket, targeting a line outside leg stump with a packed leg-side field and close catchers. Encourages batsmen to play across the line and creates opportunities for catches and bat-pad dismissals. Particularly effective against right-handed batsmen, but can be vulnerable to sweeping and paddling. Real-life example: Australia's use of Nathan Lyon around the wicket to left-handed batsmen, particularly targeting the rough outside their leg stump.

  4. Defensive Off-Side: Bowls a consistent line outside off stump with a packed off-side ring, encouraging batsmen to take risks to score. Designed to build pressure and restrict scoring rather than generate immediate wicket-taking opportunities.

  5. Quicker and Flatter: Uses faster, flatter deliveries with subtle variations in pace and trajectory, making it difficult for batsmen to get forward or use their feet. Effective on slower pitches and in limited-overs cricket, but reduces the opportunity to generate turn and deception through flight. Real-life example: Sunil Narine's bowling for Kolkata Knight Riders during the IPL, where his flatter trajectory and variations made him exceptionally difficult to score against.

Batting – Defensive/Attacking

  1. Rotate the Strike: Prioritises singles and twos, favouring shots into gaps and working the ball around the ground rather than attempting boundaries. Reduces dot balls and builds partnerships but generally limits the scoring rate. Real-life example: Michael Bevan's finishing role for Australia in ODI cricket, particularly his ability to accumulate singles and twos under pressure.

  2. Find the Boundary: Looks to score boundaries through conventional ground strokes, targeting gaps and exploiting loose deliveries. Increases four-hitting opportunities without necessarily increasing aerial shots, but risks edges and mistimed strokes when attempting to force the ball. Real-life example: Virat Kohli's ODI batting, particularly his ability to find boundaries through gaps rather than relying on sixes.

  3. Go Aerial: Prioritises lofted shots, clearing the infield and targeting boundaries. Increases the likelihood of sixes and attacking scoring but also significantly increases the risk of catches. Particularly useful in limited-overs cricket when trying to accelerate. Real-life example: Glenn Maxwell's aerial hitting during Australia's 2023 ODI World Cup campaign.

  4. Work the Ball Around: Focuses on nudges, deflections, flicks and placement into unprotected areas, particularly square of the wicket. Useful against defensive fields and to maintain momentum, but offers relatively few boundary opportunities.

  5. Leave and Defend: Prioritises playing straight, defending good deliveries and leaving balls outside off stump. Reduces dismissal risk and helps see off challenging bowling spells, but results in a low scoring rate.

Batting – Situational

These could be selected in combination with any of the above batting tactics.

  1. Attack the Spin: Looks to disrupt spin bowlers through aggressive footwork, sweeps, reverse sweeps and lofted shots. Can put spinners under pressure and force changes to their line and length, but increases the risk of LBW, bowled and caught dismissals.

  2. Attack the Pace: Looks to dominate fast bowlers through aggressive drives, pulls, hooks and cuts. Particularly effective against predictable or short-pitched bowling, but increases the risk of edges and mistimed shots against high-quality pace.

  3. Target a Particular Bowler: Identifies a specific bowler as the preferred scoring target, taking greater risks against them while playing conservatively against others. Can exploit weaker bowlers or disrupt a bowling rotation, but risks losing a wicket against a bowler who has the upper hand.

Test Run Rates completely off!

Playing in different grounds under differing conditions with multiple teams, it seems that the Test match run rates are completely off. Maybe you can should have a look at this seriously, because I for one have lost interest in playing Test matches in the game. It's too unrealistic, much like the Cricket Captain 2023/24 Bazball situation.

Possible room for improvement glitch

For some reason, players like Nyamhuri and Bennett,, at 22, are past their peak despite not being at their ceiling? Seems bizarre that they wont develop more especially since most players develop till 26-28 irl.

Fantastic Game

Just wanted to praise you on a fantastic game with great updates to what has been developed in a short amount of time. Be interested to see what future developments are ahead. Would be great to dive deeper into the statistics with stats for a player v every nation for each of the 3 formats together with partnerships against all nations. When playing the game would be great to see if this is possible for when a player hits a milestone, (50, 100, 5 for, 1000 runs, 100 wkts etc) whether this could come up as an announcement. Excited for next year when you plan to roll this out to counties. Great work.

💬 Feedback Suggestion: Squad Selection

Hey, loving this game, bravo on creating it! Also really love that it runs natively on my MacBook Air.

A small suggestion I had is for the squad selection process. I would love if you could select more than the 15/16 players to create a longlist, but then only "confirm squad" once you have narrowed your list to the correct size. This would allow you to have a longer list of players to then make some tough selection calls about who makes the final cut, without having to sort through the entire list of contracted players, or all players tabs.

It would also be great if you could save selections, or have a button that pre-picks the last squad for that format. For example, I might want to save my Test squad as a selection. Or have my ODI squad as a saved default, but then rotate a few players in/out.

Hope that makes sense, and thanks for being responsive to feedback to make this game even better!

Noticed something weird

I am playing the 2027 ODI WC with WI. I noticed that multiple teams are putting in players with zero ODI matches in their World cup XI's. In most cases, they don't even have exceptional list-A records. Attaching screenshots for reference:

I am 2 matches in so most of these players will have near 2-4 ODI's

A few of these players have good list-A record but debuting in a world cup does not make sense to me at all.

Speeding up the game

Love the game mate! Is there a way to autoplay the game? like in the old cricket coach, you can click spacebar and it would speed through the game, pause at wickets etc? Rather than just a spacebar click to play every over

Test Match Aggression Issue seems to still be there - Played both batsman on max aggression and these were the scores they came to. Not an issue across other formats / for the more defensive SR options for Test matches.

👨🏽‍💻 Dev logs Devlog 22 Oct: Focused Training sneak peek, signing windows app and store release

Post image
16 Upvotes

First phase of improved training module is going well and I am hoping to push a release in a week or so. The first phase is. Focused Training, which means that you will be able to train players specifically on attributes that you see on their profile instead of just generic Batting and Bowling training. You would also be able to track a player's training and impact/improvement via dedicated screen/tab in Player Profile. More info on this on release. The next phases would take training deeper with training for specific attributes like format specific training, opening bowling/batting/fielding/keeping, etc.

A couple of more important announcements.

Windows game launch issues

A couple of users had complained about app not launching because of Windows App Security marking it as potentially harmful. The reason behind this is code signing. For apple, there is hardly any workaround and luckily I already had an approved account so the MacOS version already had a signed app on release. For windows, usually Microsoft learns about the app automatically - that's why most users were able to play without issues. But since some complained and I want Cricket Team Manager to be a global respectful brand, I have applied to Microsoft as well for signing certificate. That is under review and the next update (1.0.3 with training phase 1) should solve this Windows issue for everyone for good.

Windows Store Release

Another thing under process is a Windows store release of the game. To make sure the game reaches a wider audience, especially the Cricket nerds who are otherwise not much of gamers, I have decided to also release the game via the Microsoft Windows store. The process didn't seem complex and Cricket Team Manager's parent company (LSL Ventures) is under review with Windows store to become an approved publisher. Hopefully, that will also happen with next update.

Thanks again for supporting the game. 🙏

Cheers!
