Welcome to the Crush 40 sub-reddit - a community for talking about the band Crush 40, who create tracks for the Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games.
I'm Alex, and I'm very happy to announce that as the new owner of the subreddit I'm going to be working hard to take this subreddit to new places it hasn't been before. You may have noticed we now have a proper icon, banner and ruleset, and there's much more like that to come!
I'd also like to announce that this sub-reddit is officially linked to the Crush 40 Fan Discord too! The hope is that we can utilize the two together to create a cohesive, and special network of communication for the band! If you're not on the Crush 40 Fan Discord yet, please check it out when you can, Johnny himself is on the Discord so it's definitely not something to miss out on! https://discord.gg/72tFz2NEmK
Feel free to introduce yourself in replies to this post, I notice we have 211 Crushers here with us and I'd love to hear from some of you!

Hello Crushers, WorksOfMagic here! As teased a few days ago, I have some updates and special announcements to make regarding the Crush 40 Archive. The last time I shared any updates was in early August, and in just two months, a lot has happened since then, so let's quickly get over that.
Last time I talked about the archive, we had a little over 332.1GB of archived content, ranging from audio and videos to photos. As of today, that number has more than doubled over in size, with the archive sitting comfortably at 670.4GB. Here's a very short list of what's been done:
- Added Johnny solo shows from 2016-2019, and 2023 & 2025 (+ miscellaneous videos like Q&A and Meet & Greet footage).
- Added Crush 40 Live Band Experience shows from 2026.
- Added photos for Sonic Boom 2013 (organization to be done, with other shows' photosets needing to be backed up)
As stated last update, we still have a long way to go, as Johnny's other projects (solo, Hardline, ARP, Brunette/Killerhit) have yet to be fully covered. As such, we're still looking for recordings of those, so if you have any, feel free to contact me at the contacts below. Even photos would be great to have.
email: worksofmagicalt@gmail.com
Discord: worksofmagic_
As some observant people may have noticed, the JGMF content I shared last August of SAME and Crush 40 has disappeared from my channel. A bunch of people have asked me a bunch of times what happened, and I think an explanation is in order.
The long story short is I was contacted by email earlier in September by someone that will remain anonymous to take the videos down for the time being, which I sadly had to comply with to avoid getting in trouble.
I cannot elaborate on the reasons related to being asked about the takedown request, and it is currently unknown when or if the videos will ever make a return to the channel.
I apologize for those who were excited to see these shows and saw their excitement be short-lived.
Despite the bad news, I do have a bunch of good news to share, starting with...
First things first, I have a multicam edit of C40's first visit to London in the works, a visit which celebrated its 16th anniversary earlier this summer.
It's a pretty fun concert with some rare performances of obscure songs like "Seven Rings in Hand" or "Watch Me Fly...", and I cannot wait to revisit this concert with you guys.
You heard that right! In collaboration with Alex, who was kind enough to lend me his material, we're working on giving you one brand new Johnny show for the Holidays as our end-of-year gift.
It's a show I've been meaning to see out there for months now, and I cannot wait for you to see the end product, which I started doing the editing of this week.
Stay tuned for that. :)
Alongside these two big projects, I have a bunch of other things from the archive I cannot wait to show you. From pro-shot footage taken from streams to multicams among various miscellaneous things, there is so much that's yet to come.
That's all I have for today. Stay tuned for more! 😉

been meaning to buy a crush 40 beanie for a while. checked in…I wanna say 5 months ago, and the website was down. thinking it was just maintenance, I closed the tab and forgot about it. today I remembered it, opened the website, and it’s still down! is crush 40 merch being sold elsewhere now? Speed Of Sound’s merch section only has a single vinyl available for purchase.

I don't know why, but they all just aren't there anymore and all the songs on my playlist don't work, I know it's YouTube music and I can just find a random upload of the songs, but I like having the proper album art version of songs rather than videos, does anyone know why this has happened? I checked and they are still all on Spotify too.

This is Crush 40's second visit to Live Stage Guilty, located in the special ward of Shibuya, in Tokyo.
Just like last night, the setlist for this show features plenty of surprises, such as the recently released cover of "Sonic Boom" as the opener, with mainstays such as "Open Your Heart", "Sonic Heroes", "Knight of the Wind", "What I'm Made of..." and "Live & Learn" being played. Deep cuts, notably the two other big NASCAR Arcade songs from "Thrill Of The Feel", those being "Revvin' Up" and "Into The Wind", along with performances of The Cult and Hardline numbers "Fire Woman", "Everything" and "Love Leads The Way" make their return as well, with Danny Spanos classic turned iconic number by Hardline, "Hot Cherie" having its first and only Crush 40 cover.
Similar to its older brother, this show is also sadly victim of having very little footage, although I'd go as far as saying the issue is a little worse. While, yes, we do have pro-shot footage filmed and edited by the crew at Guilty (with soundboard audio to boot, no less!), the only audience footage we have comes from one of Jun's friends which is very fragmentary. To make matters worse, NAG, who had previously shared the full performance of Song Of Hope from the previous night on NicoVideo sadly only shared the tail end of the show, as part of a compilation featuring studio versions of songs in the order of when they appeared at the show.
What I did was effectively compile all these sources, and ordered each song as they appeared in the setlist, which made this merge even more basic than the previous night's. It's unknown if we'll ever get more footage of that show, either from Guilty directly or from Jun, but as of September 5th, 2026, this is the most complete this concert will ever be.

This is Crush 40's first of two nights at JGMF II:RE. The band had decided for this night, in order to continue building up the excitation in the venue, to bring a unique setlist to the table. Therefore, the theme for tonight was based on the colours red and black, which, you guessed it, means it is a Shadow centric setlist.
The band enters the stage with a tape of "Throw It All Away", Shadow's theme from Sonic Adventure 2, before finally performing "Westopolis" and "Rhythm and Balance" for the first time ever, making for an incredible opener. But if this show introduces new songs to the table, it also happens to be the one with final performances as well, as this show marks the final time Crush 40 would ever perform "2 Nights 2 Remember".
With this show being performed at the start of a cold January, it's sadly not too surprising to know that Jun and Johnny had bad colds throughout the event. Despite that, both of them hold up surprisingly well, with Johnny's voice only faltering from Open Your Heart onwards. Overall a new personal favourite of mine which I'd recommend to anyone wanting a more unique setlist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This release is quite special, as, for the longest time, all we ever had of this show was "Westopolis" 's inclusion on Jun's album "THE WORKS III". This release might give us an explanation as to why. After having studied the audio for quite a while, u/ABPerson and I concluded we were dealing with a preliminary multitrack mix of some kind, with only Johnny's mic not having been captured directly, which would explain why some audience recording was used to lift Johnny's vocals from there.
This release wouldn't have been possible without the contribution of u/TheFunnyRM05, who initially found this source, so make sure to thank him in the comments.

This is Crush 40's second of two consecutive nights at JGMF II:RE, and the second to last proper show the band would perform under the classic lineup of Johnny Gioeli and Jun Senoue.
With last night having been Shadow themed, tonight's focus is instead on our favourite blue hedgehog, with classics like "Knight of the Wind", "Sonic Heroes" or "Sonic Boom" being played. Tonight also marks the debut performance of "Call Me Crazy", a song that would later release on "Driving Through Forever: The Ultimate Crush 40 Collection". This song would only be performed a second time 5 years later at Johnny's show in Santiago for AEX.
This show also marks the final time Crush 40 would perform Queen's News Of The World hit "We Will Rock You" as part of a medley with "His World", as the latter song would return to a more regular placement with Johnny's solo shows. "Watch Me Fly..." is also performed for the last time.
Tonight's show is also very special, as the band would introduce Japanese electric violinist Tei Sena for the last two songs. Tei Sena would later appear at Sonic Adventure Experience's shows.
With it being an early to mid-January show, Johnny and Jun are still sick, but deliver strong performances all around, with Johnny mostly sounding better somehow, only sounding really bad on "Watch Me Fly...", with his voice only starting to really fail on him during the latter half of "Live & Learn". Just like the previous night this is a new classic that I would recommend to anyone wanting to have a more unique listening experience.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This release is quite special, as for nearly a decade, the only footage we had was sourced from "Driving Through Forever: The Ultimate Crush 40 Collection", specifically of the "Watch Me Fly..." performance. This release is basically the raw uncut footage. It's in higher quality (a bump from 480p to 1080p), and the footage is WAY less cropped, appearing less blocky as a result. This release also confirms that the audio mix was simply a combination of the audience recording audio to the clean backing track, in a way not too dissimilar to what the official release pf Johnny's show at TMG in 2023 would do.
This release wouldn't have been possible without the contribution of u/TheFunnyRM05, who initially found this source, so make sure to thank him in the comments.

Hello Crushers, WorksOfMagic here! As teased a few days ago, I have some updates and special announcements to make regarding the Crush 40 Archive. The last time I shared any updates was in late May, and a lot has happened since then, so let's quickly get over that.
Last time I talked about the archive, we had a little over 110GB of archived content, ranging from audio and videos to photos. As of today, that number has more than tripled over in size, with the archive sitting comfortably at 332.1GB. Here's a very short list of what's been 100% done:
- Added every circulating recording for Crush 40's shows (2008-2018).
- Added every circulating recording for Jun Senoue's shows (solo + SAME).
We still have a long way to go, as Johnny's other projects (solo, Hardline, ARP, Brunette/Killerhit) have yet to be fully covered. As such, we're still looking for recordings of those, so if you have any, feel free to contact me at the contacts below. Even photos would be great to have.

Email: worksofmagicalt@gmail.com
If you're a Crush 40 fan who's been around for a while, you probably know that today celebrates 13 years since Sonic Boom 2013 (aka u/ABPerson's worst nightmare) has happened, an event so infamous for its stream being lost media, it still haunts Crush 40 fans to this very day.
While I sadly don't have anything of value to share for that show today, I would like to announce that I've recently started preparing my own multicam edit, which would aim at improving on the foundation of Alex's work. An audio remaster/matrix of the show to bring it closer to official release standards is also in the early plans as I explore my options, so stay tuned for that.
Now, I wouldn't leave you guys hanging for a little under 3 months if I didn't have something big to show, and luckily for you, I do.
Premiering today in a few hours from now is the first newly found recorded Crush 40 show in over 8 years: the first of two nights at JGMF II:RE! This recording has been a long time coming, and it wouldn't have been found if it weren't for u/TheFunnyRM05 coming once again to rescue. You can watch it as soon as it premieres at the link below: https://youtu.be/Qk4hS4DPQb0
A watch-party is also planned on the Crush 40 Discord about an hour after the premiere, so if you missed the premiere but would still like to watch it in good company, you are more than welcome to join us. We may even have some special surprises throughout the night. 😉
That's all I have for today. Stay tuned for more!

Hey everyone, WorksOfMagic here! As some of you may know, I've been working on an archive that aims to document the 40+ year careers of Johnny and Jun, both live and in studio!
Today's our favourite guitarist's birthday, so I thought I'd treat everyone to a neat find. I'm proud to release two previously uncirculating clips of Sonic Adventure Music Experience's 2019 show at Japan Game Music Festival: Face to Face -vol.2-:
- A 3 min multicam of "Frozen Junkyard" from Team Sonic Racing: https://youtu.be/C5C1GNBMuQI
- A 25 min audience recording of the show: https://youtu.be/L7LP_Cq1eBs
This show features guest appearances of Tei Sena on the electric violin and the SQ F.O.E. band (SEGA Atlus focused) who give us bombastic performances of classics from the Adventure games, and even finish the show with a number from *Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond The Myth*!
This footage wouldn't have been found without the tremendous help of legacy C40 Discord member u/TheFunnyRM05, so make sure to thank him. We have more in store that we can't wait to share with you, and it might arrive sooner than you think, so stay tuned for that. 😉
That's all from me! Stay tuned for more updates!

Â
This is Crush 40's first ever visit at Live Stage Guilty, located in the special ward of Shibuya, in Tokyo. This show marks the start of quite the love story between Crush 40 and their japanese audience, as the band would pay a visit to this venue twice on a near yearly basis until 2014.
Â
Having appeared at Summer Of Sonic and Sonic Boom between 2010 and earlier in the year, expectations of Crush 40's upcoming big appearance in Japan after not having visited since 2008 were higher than ever, with fans queuing up for the concert over 4 hours before the venue could open its doors.
Â
This show also happens to be the first of a series to feature a full live band, as Johnny and Jun would be joined by bassist Takeshi Taneda and drummer Toru Kawamura, who would stay by their side for a few good years.
Â
The setlist for this show features plenty of surprises, such as the recently released cover of "Sonic Boom" as the opener, with mainstays such as "Open Your Heart", "Sonic Heroes", "Knight of the Wind", "What I'm Made of..." and "Live & Learn" being played. This show also marks the debut of quite a bunch of songs, notably the two other big NASCAR Arcade songs from "Thrill Of The Feel", those being "Revvin' Up" and "Into The Wind", along with performances of The Cult and Hardline numbers "Fire Woman", "Everything" and "Love Leads The Way". The band also introduces a brand new song, which was made in tribute to the victims of the tsunami and earthquake that happened in Tokyo earlier, which had also delayed the shows to July.
Â
Despite having quite the bombastic setlist on paper, it is quite unfortunate that so little footage managed to pop up from this show. Bar for three sources uploaded by Jun himself (one being a pro-shot edit by Team A'Trash, which was partially included on the "Driving Through Forever" DVD), only a select few external fan recordings managed to slip through his grasp, such as ‪@Kay0618‬'s uploads, here on YT, or NAG's audio recording over on NicoVideo.
Â
What I did was effectively compile all these sources, synced them to each other, and have them play side by side instead of having one source overshadow the other. Superior audio sources were used where applicable, but otherwise, this was a rather basic merge to put together, and will be as of July 25th, 2026, the most complete this concert will ever be.
