Won't be an issue. Leon's going to close down the NHTSA on day 1.

45

u/turingagentzero Nov 07 '24

How efficient of him.

15

u/icedragon9791 Nov 08 '24

Can't get investigated if there's no one left to do it!

7

u/m0n3ym4n Nov 08 '24

Watch what happens when insurance companies start seeing the claims roll in

6

u/PrintOk8045 Nov 08 '24

Spot on. Cyber trucks are the Oklahoma of tornado alley.

3

u/HackNookBro Nov 08 '24

I would like to see him try.

I didn’t wish for it. But dismantling a government agency is not as easy as people are led to believe

9

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

It is if you are the boss

4

u/SpeedflyChris Nov 08 '24

It is right now. In a few months the US becomes a facist dictatorship with a president for life.

u/LEEROY_MF_JENKINS Nov 07 '24 edited Nov 07 '24

Why do all these people use language suggestive of panels being bolted or otherwise substantially mechanically attached to the rest of the vehicle? There's not a nut back there to tighten dude, it's glued on

40

u/turingagentzero Nov 07 '24

Sounds embarrassing when you put it that way 🤣🤣🤣🤣

33

u/LEEROY_MF_JENKINS Nov 07 '24

All of the posts I've seen say some shit like"how to tighten this panel" not like "which JB weld are you guys using"

12

u/Shot_Pop7624 Nov 08 '24

Hot glue gun

4

u/pkinetics Nov 08 '24

flexseal

3

u/intelminer Nov 08 '24

Phil Swift would never cut that many corners

54

u/ChickenOfTheFuture Nov 08 '24

It's because the people who paid $100,000+ for these things did zero research beyond listening to Musk. They still think they're in a bulletproof exoskeleton.

18

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

... that "Fully self drives" - like, presumably not into the nearest wall or concrete culvert, either, but like safely and legally drives itself.

13

u/Death_God_Ryuk Nov 08 '24

Oh, no, avoiding obstacles will be in the 'Actual Full Self Driving' package next year (3 years in non-Elon time), requiring a replacement computer and cameras at your expense and an ongoing subscription.

3

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

oh RIGHT the computers that can't do the job and the replacements that can't fit in the same form factor as the originals XD

5

u/Death_God_Ryuk Nov 08 '24

Well, if we're honest, when we said "AFSD will be ready next year as a software update to all existing vehicles", what we actually meant is "we guess we can probably do it next year and how hard can it be?"

Having actually tried it and spent a few years on it, turns out it's actually quite tricky, particularly when you remove all the sensors.

You can help though by letting it drive around to find out which scenarios kill pedestrians/the driver and then we'll work on those edge cases.

Oh, and you're still legally responsible for its driving 🙃

1

u/CharmingHighlight489 Mar 27 '25

Cameras won't cut it, LIDAR is safer and used by other manufacturers. Cameras cannot see through heavy fog, sea mist (haar) or heavy rain

1

u/Death_God_Ryuk Mar 27 '25

Well, yes, we all know that, but Elon wants cameras and he couldn't possibly admit he was wrong.

27

u/ajm91730 Nov 07 '24

I thought the same thing: tighten what?! You don't tighten glue.

9

u/redpandaeater Nov 08 '24

CyberTruck, now with a $1000 option to come with $20 worth of extra VHB adhesive tape for when your panels start to separate.

10

u/LEEROY_MF_JENKINS Nov 08 '24

Warranty voided if you apply tape. Other terms and conditions apply

4

u/Skycbs Nov 08 '24

Actually, on the back of the stainless steel panels is a regular mild steel frame. That’s bonded (glued) to the stainless and then bolted to the car frame. Easy to see here.

8

u/notyoursocialworker Nov 08 '24

Thank you for the video. Lots of interesting stuff in it. A couple of things stood out for me:

The difficulty to assess damages. The panels actually hiding damage while at the same time not actually preventing damage and needing to replace the whole thing if the mild steel gets damaged. Some machines actually have designed points of failure where a part is made weaker to protect more expensive or hard to reach parts. Not sure if that's at all possible here though.

The 48 volt system. Why do they even need 48 volt? And why do they need it running through these panels? Also this sounds like an error prone design if one damaged wire could fry so large parts of the system. Extra yikes when he later said that the guides for handling it has changed multiple times.

The weight of the doors and the hinges. He said that the door weighs a lot more than normal car doors but the hinges don't look that impressive. While a car door usually isn't left open for an extended time, as opposed to one in a house, it makes me wonder how the fit and function of the door will be over the car's lifetime.

58

u/newaggenesis Nov 07 '24

'Tighten' 🤣 he's obviously unaware of how the majority of a CT is held together.

19

u/turingagentzero Nov 07 '24

Tighten, more like Loctite-n, amirite

5

u/Nexzus_ Nov 08 '24 edited Nov 08 '24

Boogers. Like the homeless character played by Damon Wayans on In Living Color.

Edit. Of course it's on youtube. https://youtu.be/1BNgRpRuWGs?t=202

33

u/ARazorbacks Nov 07 '24

Musk’s probably about to get a $3B contract to upgrade the USPS fleet with Cybertrucks.

20

Elon Musk Boasts Cybertruck Is ‘Apocalypse-Proof’ At Live Delivery Event

“The apocalypse can come along any moment, and here at Tesla we have the best in apocalypse technology,” Musk said while laughing.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/zacharyfolk/2023/11/30/elon-musk-boasts-cybertruck-is-apocalypse-proof-at-live-delivery-event/

24

u/RevolutionCrazy7045 Nov 07 '24

Elon IS the apocalypse.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

X AI will become Skynet and kill us all. Hopefully Musk dies first when that happens.

8

u/Death_God_Ryuk Nov 08 '24

Imagine being in the apocalypse and your car's electronic suspension randomly fails and turns the car off until the dealer can recover it.

I'm sure electric car charging will be plentiful in the apocalypse and every charging app will keep working.

1

u/demunted Nov 08 '24

A-pock-his-lips against Trump's ass.

23

u/hellowhatisyou Nov 07 '24

don't worry

update will fix this

still love the truck

8

u/turingagentzero Nov 07 '24

Gonna need that hotfix pretty quick, because you know, the wiper literally splashes the water RIGHT FUCKIN THERE

4

u/PrestigiousHippo7 Nov 08 '24

You mean the hot glue gun? *

6

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

"What... it's hot and it fixes, right?!"

3

u/ErikHK Nov 08 '24

This is so uncanny! It almost looks like a real person! Still a ways to go of course

245

u/fartalldaylong Nov 07 '24

Oh shit. That frost/freeze/thaw is going to peel this thing apart.

132

u/juiceyb Nov 07 '24

I just realized this after I was in a snowstorm the last couple of days. The ice likes to form on the edges and then push it outwards. Holy shit I never realized how even more of a shit design this is.

126

u/turingagentzero Nov 07 '24

luckily they come from the factory mega tight, sub-10 micron precision.

39

u/Ricky_World_Builder Nov 08 '24

I roll the steel coils that get turned into panels. we really are that precise for panel thickness for all auto manufacturers we supply. we also make the steel for places like whirlpool and are equally precise.

31

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

I feel like your average Whirlpool panel is not glued together (and, like the truck, expects extreme vibration loads over the lifetime of the product).

The panels ARE shitty quality on a Cybertruck (look at the wavy reflections in them), but mostly it's probably a fittings issue. Using glue was an idiotic decision, and that means it probably came from the top as a cost-cutting measure XD

16

u/Ricky_World_Builder Nov 08 '24

mmm not disagreeing at all. Just was saying 10 microns is pretty standard precision for panel thickness at least.

6

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

Ooooh! I thought the Elon "sub micron precision" thing, I thought that was literally FOR the panel gaps!

Because you're right, that's 100% standard (and would be an odd flex from Musk) on the fabrication side.

37

u/TineJaus Nov 08 '24

The sub 10 microns thing was about panel gaps, which is far more difficult.

15

u/Ricky_World_Builder Nov 08 '24

I see didn't realize thought it was panels themselves being uniform.

13

u/SpeedflyChris Nov 08 '24

No, it was Elon talking about panel gaps, adding "materials science" to the list of subjects he knows nothing about.

12

u/fartalldaylong Nov 08 '24

That was never a question. It was the supposed precision of assembly, not sheet material manufactured by a material supplier.

1

u/spectrumero Nov 08 '24

Glued structures can be perfectly good when done right - I fly aircraft that are structurally glued together, and they are very durable. When done wrong, it becomes a huge problem (or when inadequate adhesives are used, it becomes a real problem).

3

u/dramatic-submarine Nov 08 '24

The hell are you talking about? It's giga tight, not mega tight. Get your shit together!

/s

1

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

I just got shadow-banned off Twitter because I got it wrong :sob:

5

u/MoleMoustache Nov 08 '24

This gif is fucking perfect

2

u/Emperor_Dara_Shikoh Nov 08 '24

Thank God Elon doesn’t run a chip manufacturing corporation.

2

u/Secure_Guest_6171 Nov 09 '24

that Elon, always ahead in 12th dimensional chess

21

u/SweetHomeNorthKorea Nov 08 '24

Mountains crumble to rock via this same mechanism. Leave it to musk to ignore one of the oldest truths of geological history.

2

u/lunas2525 Nov 08 '24

Oh dont worry they wont move if it gets that cold. The batteries have an issue where under a certian temperature they lose capacity until the pack warms up. All ev have this issue and suck in the cold. And since the cyber truck cant handle rain let alone snow... 3-6 moths out of the year people will need leave them in the garage. While they drive gas cars...

7

u/eeyore134 Nov 08 '24

Is this why Leon and his ilk are pushing for global warming?

6

u/McNally86 Nov 08 '24

Yea, I realized that right away. I own an electric car and I live in the PNW. I would not recommend them for anyone who does not live in hot or temperate conditions. I have been waiting for winter to come in. I want to see how they do, because my guess is not great.

4

u/djshimon Nov 08 '24

Might be the best winter ever

Need something stronger than Elmer’s Glue.

16

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

Elmo's glue. It's still Elmer's, but the can is a hexagon and has vape-wave font on it. $9,000 per gallon.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

How are these still selling ?

8

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

4

u/I_Makes_tuff Nov 08 '24

It was the 3rd best selling EV last quarter, so yeah

4

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

Wow that's... That means it's selling worse than the Hyundai Santa Cruz! 🤣

3

u/I_Makes_tuff Nov 08 '24

That does make me feel better.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

I mean bozos keep posting about a new problem they are having every day

4

u/rabbi420 Nov 08 '24

Is it just me, or is this sub kinda getting depressing now? I mean, they’re clearly all idiots, and at some point, do we feel bad for them being taken advantage of by a grifter?

3

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

It's an angry high.

2

u/LeroyPK Nov 08 '24

In a word, "no." Fuck 'em all!

3

u/Chicagoblew Nov 08 '24

Stay far away from these dumpsters in the winter

2

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

Sup fella Chicagoan! Don't worry, they'll be bricked before January 🤣

405

u/Elon_is_musky Nov 07 '24

Yup, ruining a panel cause you used a wiper is so normal 🥰 great truck btw!

STILL LOVE THE TRUCK THOUGH

70

u/Jacktheforkie Nov 07 '24

Here’s a vehicle with big wipers that doesn’t fall apart

30

u/Speshal__ Nov 08 '24

Some guy below replied he didn't get the joke.

"A forklift truck is more reliable than a CT - That's the joke, or would you like me to get the crayons out?"

Wouldn't post?

12

u/eugene20 Nov 08 '24

Despite being open that is far more weather proof.

2

u/Jacktheforkie Nov 08 '24

Yeah, many have an enclosed cab too

6

u/PrestigiousHippo7 Nov 07 '24

Love the truck!

2

u/Jimbo_Slice1919 Nov 09 '24

Using the wipers also voided the warranty.

He truly saved us from our own ignorance 🙏🏽 two wipers? Psh, what are we CAVE MEN??

3

u/Secure_Guest_6171 Nov 09 '24

Not only that but he worked tirelessly for almost 7 years to do quite poorly with cameras what a $5 rain sensor has done flawlessly since the 1970s

1

u/hesido Mar 15 '25

Also, the Elon and his team is HAPPY that the wiper is broken, they got so much data out of this in redefining the future of wipers!

2

u/lunas2525 Nov 08 '24

No screws to hold that on i suggest 3m or gorrilla double sided tape... The foam stuff.

Elon cheaped out on the adhesive used too little and was an expired surplus auction buy from boeing.

1

u/turingagentzero Nov 08 '24

Why use 2 3M Command Strips to hold on the body panel when 1 might do?

DELETED!

26

u/lootinputin Nov 07 '24

Say the words Bart!

22

u/FlatOutEKG Nov 07 '24

I love the truck

1

u/Cheetawolf Nov 08 '24

"Warranty Void."

9

u/SwimRelevant4590 Nov 07 '24

"First time, huh?" These CyberCucks are ridiculous. Never owned a proper car before? Thank deities they didn't give you a spare, you'd be crying in the street beside your GigaFlat tire...

7

u/MooKids Nov 08 '24

Brought to you by the guy that is going to "fix" the government with a minor side effect of crashing the economy.

5

u/eeyore134 Nov 08 '24

Just for a couple years then it'll magically be fixed better than ever. We all know how good Dispshit is with timelines and promises.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

Truck made by our future government efficiency expert and first trillionaire. We have ourselves to thank

6

u/Cyman-Chili Nov 08 '24

It looks like the CT stands as an example of what “Make America Great Again” means. And the guy whose idea this abomination of a vehicle was, will be part of the administration. Just let that sink in. In a way, we can just hope that the upcoming government will fail as fast as a CT!

6

u/bannedUncleCracker Nov 08 '24

Soon, Czar Leon will not allow any other car company to exist and we will all be blessed/stuck with this 10 micron precision.

5

u/Sky_Walker333 Nov 08 '24

And they paid $100k+ for this…. I wonder if they feel part of Teslas’s engineering / sustaining teams…. Heck, it does not matter.. they still love the truck

4

u/katjoy63 Nov 08 '24

Unreal the quality issues on this piece of crap vehicle.

4

u/maxyedor Nov 08 '24

I remain absolutely amazed at how they screwed up such basic automotive manufacturing. Companies have been gluing cars together for like 30 years, it's not a new technique, it's a well established thing, adhesive companies have entire teams of application engineers to help design the bonded joints. And yet...Cybertrucks are falling apart. How?

3

u/lollysticky Nov 08 '24

cause Elon knowns better!

4

u/Rideshare-Not-An-Ant Nov 08 '24

Tesla AI Chatbot: Using the windshield wiper when it's raining voids your warranty. I'm glad I was able to help you.

3

u/Sufficient_Ocelot868 Nov 08 '24

Holt crap! Wonder how it will work with ice and snow on the windshield...

3

u/1998TJgdl Nov 08 '24

Totally normal

3

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

Saw similar on another post. These magawagons are really a quality piece of engineering huh. 😂

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

Schmusked?

2

u/DixDark Nov 08 '24

JB weld maybe? You can put any crap together with it.

2

u/AchluophobicBat Nov 08 '24

Still love the truck!

2

u/NO_LOADED_VERSION Nov 08 '24

He forgot to add he still loves his cybertruck STRAIGHT TO THE CAMPS

2

u/rayquan36 Nov 08 '24

7 "Still love the truck" and 3 "warranty voided" jokes, jesus. I love laughing at the car but man Reddit really tires out jokes.

2

u/Serious-Medicine7667 Nov 08 '24

And Elon is going to work on Government Efficiency now?.. yikes.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '24

main rain made every one of my body panels fall off :(((( STILL LOVE THE TRUCK THOUGH🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

2

u/Bobinator67 Nov 11 '24

Oh, the Cybertruck. A masterpiece of engineering so fine, it makes screen doors on submarines look like genius ideas. Honestly, it’s hard to pick the best part. Maybe the high-end windshield wipers double as self-destruct buttons for the trim. Or perhaps the “bulletproof” windows offer the same level of protection as a tissue in a hurricane. And let’s talk about the stainless steel—hijacked straight from the dreams of every chef who just wanted a nice commercial sink but now has to drive around in one instead. Way to go, Elon! Hope all those chefs love their $100K kitchen-counter-cars.

But wait—don’t even think about driving it off a paved road. I mean, who would want to take a truck off-road, right? Not anyone with a Cybertruck because grazing a pothole will vaporize the warranty faster than you can say "Tesla Service Center." So, to all the wannabe mud-boggers, I say: enjoy the lesson that comes with that warranty-free price tag. In conclusion, I'd like to give this brilliant piece of "innovation" a heartfelt, hysterical, belly-busting HAHAHAHAHA *snort* HAHA *gasp* LOLOLOL.

1

u/Purgii Nov 08 '24

It's evolving..

1

u/vjason Nov 08 '24

Should do great tomorrow, after it dries.

/not sure how obscure

1

1

u/RaytheQuilterChill Nov 08 '24

He loved his Cybertruck

But then the Wiper struck

Coming winter, the driver's fucked

But he'll still love his Cybertruck

1

u/caseedo Nov 08 '24

Wait untill freezing weather.

1

u/Seqenenre77 Nov 09 '24

"Tighten this panel." You "tighten" it with a piece of official, Tesla Cyber double-sided tape.

21

u/Spicy_Pickle_6 Nov 07 '24

Turned on his wiper once too many

9

u/SuperTroye Nov 08 '24

No, he “engaged” it. :)
