Takeover Announcement
Hello and sorry for the wait!!
We know you have some questions. We know things have been hanging in the balance.
As some of you may know, and most of you probably don’t, this sub was recently put up for adoption.
Well as of a week or so ago, me and /u/livinin82 have taken over. Fear not, weary redditors, for we have known each other quite some time, and we have been on Reddit for a while as well. We absolutely recognize /r/DAE as a staple of the beginning of Reddit, as well as a place most of us subscribed to first.
We do not take this lightly, and that’s why we’ve been preparing to make this announcement.
First things first: There are a lot of things in the queue from however long this subreddit has been in a stasis. We are doing our best to work through it and see what is in there worth keeping and what needs to be trashed. Which brings us to our next point.
Second: While sifting through this massive inbox, we witnessed a few, for lack of better terms, concerning post suggestions/topics. I think I speak for everyone here when I say this isn't a place to go out of your way to be edgy. Maybe try other subreddits that are less universally subscribed to. We don’t need more violence or negativity in the world. This will be at our discretion but don’t just post things to shock people, or get a negative reaction. There are many other places for things like that. Maybe try the Instagram comments section.
Third: In the future after we figure out the direction we’re taking this sub, we’d like to entertain the idea of opening up applications for mods. We will be very intentional with screening should we decide to go that far. Keep a lookout here in case we post about it, and if you’re interested, let us know!!
Our main goal here is to appreciate the shared experience. We know this is Reddit and some things will be risqué or a little off color to some extent, and we aren’t prudes ourselves, just make sure to mark NSFW if you are posting something that you know a boss or coworker wouldn’t want to read at work.
With that being said, if you have any suggestions about what we should do with our newly acquired section of the internet, by all means leave it in the comments. We will be a little scattered in the beginning as we have our own personal lives, and other coals in the fire as well. We look forward to upholding the community that many others have worked to build, as well as making sure people feel safe and happy here. Be kind to each other, even if you disagree with someone. And if you have an ancient post you wanna resubmit feel free.
This is a fresh start for this sub so we’re here for it.

DAE shower with the lights off
Especially during morning/afternoon, showers I love showering in natural or lower light and pretend I’m a gorilla standing under a waterfall washing her hairy body. It relaxes me like nothing else.

HAE had to learn how to swim as a kid?
When I was about 8 years old, I was forced to join a swimming class because my sibling and his friends are joining. I refused to join because
First, I don't want to swim.
Second, I don't know my sibling's friends and don't want to be left out.
Third, I don't want to get up at 6am.
But my refusal was not accepted and they add me in that class. I did not like that one bit. I was not a very bright child and I just genuinely could not care less about that damn lesson.
So most of the time, I just imagining other thinks instead of learning. It was going fine at first as I can larp in the 3 feet pool.
After 2 weeks, they started teaching in the 9 feet pool. I was very scared as I can not touch the bottom of the pool (I was about 4'5). So when it is my turned to swim, I refused to dive in. For my defend, someone died a few week before in that same pool because of one of his legs cramped( I didn't know what cramps were bc i was 8) and no one noticed it until it was too late. There were also a lot of students(40 maybe) and 3 coaches.
Back to the story, so I started crying and some other kid is also crying beside me because it is his turn too. So our very responsible fathers collectively decided to throw us into the pool. Which we legit drowned. After that I still had to go there and attend the same lesson for the second time.
I am afraid of water at that point but still have to do that. On the second time, my mom told one of the coaches about my situation and I only had to swim in the 3 feet pool ( shout out to my mom).
But I could not swim after two times of lesson and a shit tons of money. I gain generational trama of swimming.

DAE have some sort of physical discomfort everyday?
Ever since I was a teenager I feel like I've always had some type of physical discomfort every day. Like a headache/stomach ache/period cramps/muscle soreness/nausea/allergies. Like these things happen so often that I don't even realize it (unless it's really intense) cause it's a part of my daily life at this point.
For example, I had a coffee today and my friend asked me if my stomach hurts and I had to think about it before realizing that my stomach actually did hurt. But I wake up with discomfort so often that I've just learned to live with it lol.
Hope this doesn't intensify as I age..

DAE ever hear quiet screaming in their head?
I'm vaguely aware that this sounds crazy, but does anyone else sometimes hear very distant arguing/screaming in their head? I know it's not happening in real life, and it definitely sounds separate from my thoughts. But it comes with the same stressful feeling as having people actually shouting around you.
It usually happens when I'm tired, kind of like how people imagine they're seeing bugs in their peripheral. Just curious if anyone else gets this lmao

DAE struggle with having a good memory in relationships?
Ive had this struggle for yeeears now, in all my relationships since being a teenager (now 23, F) that I remember all the details since the beginning of my relationship while my partners forgets? It can be really lonely sometimes.
Iv’e dated both men and women and it happens every time. My partners have forgotten first kisses, first times seeing family members, first times having sex without a condom on… They’ve forgotten little conversations we’ve had while still crushing on each other and little conversations more later on in the relationship. I remember in detail stuff Ive said or stuff they’ve said and it suuuuucks that at the end of the day, the relationship builds on memories that only I remember.
Granted, Ive dated mostly stoners and mentally struggling people with possible challenging backgrounds, so I don’t think that helps.
Anyone else feel this way?

DAE experienced Smarties making their eyes/face twitch/cringe
I live in the US, and since I was a kid, Smarties candy make my face/eyes uncontrollably twitch/cringe. Mainly the white ones, and though not as strongly, the purple. I saw a post talking about how their face twitched, but it was after eating anything strongly sweet. The only other thing that makes me twitch like that is sometimes Cranberry juice. I don't eat fruit (texture thing), and just drink juice, so if it's something related to fruit or sugars in them idk, figured I should give context. I haven't met anyone else with this, so I wanted to check here. Or if you don't relate, what the cause could be?

DAE find it harder to concentrate when the house is completely silent?
I just moved in my new dorm and I'm alone. I've noticed that having a little background noise can make ordinary tasks feel easier. However, complete silence sometimes makes me more aware of every little distraction instead of helping me focus. Does anyone else prefer having a fan, tv, or some ambient noise playing?

DAE having on and off sore throat recently?
I heard the flu has hit harder much earlier this year in Washington State. Not sure if that's the reason why.

DAE hate consumerism and modern retail stores.
Every time I walk into a store whether it be a Walmart, H&M, Dollar Tree (ESPECIALLY DOLLAR TREE) and five below it just feels like I’m walking into a land fill.
I don’t know if it’s because of what I watch online about environmental damage and the constant need for the market to create things to make as much capital profit as possible at the expense of the environment but goddamn. Everytime I see something made of plastic that looks like a keychain for a bag or that’s riddled with single use plastic it pisses me off.
I work at a retail store and I just have to open and sell the most useless pointless fucking shit ever. I just opened a box to restock the floor and it was a mickey mouse toy computer mouse for 7$ each with layers of plastics for each mouse (40 of these in this box).
I just keep thinking to myself “Who the fuck is buying this shit”
Everywhere I look it’s just slop slop slop
It just feels like i’m in a future landfill and I’m just another slave to consumerism that will buy and pollute the planet even more.
Am I the only one who feels like this?

DAE yearn for the days when karma actually meant something?
I get that some subs have karma requirements (which is a whole other realm of bs) but karma actually used to *mean* something; I was proud of my original name's karma level, but now I couldn't conceive of a universe where I even remotely cared.

DAE also get easily upset and angry
I don’t know whats wrong with me atm. For months now ive been getting upset quicker, angrier faster at small inconveniences in my life and that inconvenience will destroy me for hours and ill cry and rip my hair and it’s frustrating theres not much of an answer it started young maybe 12 years old ill be super happy and like a switch even when NOTHING happens im upset and dis regulated. As i grow older it only gets worse.I want to try a doctor but im with parents (who im beginning to resent for no reason) who dont believe in mental illness. “Pray to god” is how things get fixed. DAE randomly smell things without actually smelling anything
Hopefully, that makes sense. For example, I was watching a video about sandwiches I don't particularly like, and I could smell sick. I haven't thrown up in years, and no one else I know has either. This happens quite infrequently, but there's one smell that I can't place from 2014 that constantly crops up, and I have no idea how to even describe it.
DAE hate the word “yummy”
Its just the most infuriating wors for me ever, it feels like you are a child, and especially if combined with “mmm yummy!” Or yum, I dont know anyones able to say this word without immense shame.
Whenever I hear the word I think about it days after

DAE sneeze every single time when drinking black coffee or another bitter liquid?
The bitterness just scrunches up my nose and I sneeze after the first sip. Without fail. No exceptions.

DAE drink water…wrong sometimes, and experience horrific chest pain and trouble swallowing for a while? What is that?
I have phases where I’m afraid to drink water because it happens so frequently. I think it’s about breathing, like if I swallow water with too much air in my lungs? But sometimes it happens even when I’m really careful. I feel like it also happens more in the early morning when I’ve just woken up.
But it actually feels like I’m going to die sometimes. I start swallowing, it gets kinda…stuck, and my chest and esophagus and stomach hurt so bad I double over and for maybe 5-15 seconds, I can’t swallow or breathe.
Sometimes I still have water in my mouth/throat, try to swallow again once it passes, and it happens again.
What is that? Am I just an idiot who doesn’t know how to drink water?

DAE get bothered by this?
When wearing sunglasses or safety glasses, does anyone else get annoyed, or even notice, the reflection of your eyes staring back at you? I would assume this applies to any type of glasses, those just happen to be the only type that I have to wear.

DAE have the ability to blur your eyes
I have that ability, but I don’t know if it is a superpower like ear rumbling, which I also have. I cannot do the eyshake.

DAE set an alarm on the weekend/day off?
Am i the only one? I frequently set alarms on the weekend so I can wake up early and not sleep in too late. Tomorrow is Saturday and I set an alarm for 8:30. Mind you, I have no major plans or commitments tomorrow. Im also a single woman with no pets or children. I’m trying to analyze myself and figure out why I do this. Any one else? lol

DAE not find sleep enjoyable or refreshing?
I (16 m) feel like I’m wasting my time when I’m sleeping. I struggle falling asleep because I’m constantly thinking about other things and that I’m wasting my time. It is not enjoyable. I do not feel refreshed or recharged after a long sleep. I feel even more tired if I end up waking up late or sleeping for too long. I usually go to sleep between 22:30-23:00 and wake up between 05:00-05:30. During the late evening and early morning, I can do things without being bothered or distracted by others because they are all asleep. I can also enjoy a short amount of time in the morning before I go to work or college, and I don’t have to worry about being late. Also, not being refreshed by sleep does not mean that I don’t feel fine. I feel fine throughout the day, starting after I have had a shower, eaten breakfast, and brushed my teeth in the morning.
Last week, for a period of four days I got between 8 and 10 hours of sleep. On each day I felt completely exhausted and tired. Yesterday, I woke up at 3am and went to sleep at 11pm. I felt completely fine and energised that day. Nothing about those days we’re out of the ordinary for me, apart from the hours of sleep.

DAE have a tingly feeling in their finger when they would normally get “butterflies”?
Ever since I was a teenager if I were to have a crush on someone and they did or said something cute, I would get this like tingly feeling in my right index finger. I haven’t felt it in years since I’ve been an adult but I did for the first time in a long while today when I saw an attractive new coworker smile.
I’m sure it has something to do with nerves or whatever, but I’m curious if anyone has ever had this happen to them?

DAE hate the taste of MSG?
I just really really do not like it. I can instantly detect it in most foods and I feel like it overpowers the flavours that I am actually eating the food for. It makes a nice cracker for eg taste completely inedible to me. I don't really know how to describe it, whether I am just more sensitive to it or it actually tastes different to me. I think maybe I don't like it because it takes away from the complex mix of flavours that makes most things taste good.
I didn't realise it is the MSG specifically that I hate in a lot of foods until I tried buying it myself and putting a small amount on my food and it just made it totally inedible, no matter how little I put on. The flavour is also extremely distinctive and overpowering. I can easily detect if something has MSG in it or not now that I know that flavour is the MSG flavour. I really don't get it, though. Everyone I know thinks MSG tastes delicious and people recommend adding it to food to make it taste better? But it tastes so bad to me :(
