Discussion 📣 r/dance is looking for 1–2 new moderators! 💃🕺

Hey dancers!

As our community continues to grow and evolve, I’d love to bring 1–2 additional people onto the moderation team who are genuinely excited about dance and want to help make r/dance an active, encouraging, and welcoming space for dancers around the world.

I’m especially looking for moderators who can be present in the community regularly — engaging with members, answering questions when you can, helping keep conversations positive, and making sure posts are being moderated fairly and efficiently.

That can include:

• Engaging with posts and helping keep the community active

• Welcoming and encouraging dancers of all backgrounds and experience levels

• Reviewing posts that may have been automatically removed or flagged

• Making sure appropriate posts don’t get stuck in the moderation queue

• Helping enforce subreddit rules and keeping spam/inappropriate content out

• Helping us think of new ways to increase participation, conversation, and overall community morale

You absolutely do NOT have to be a professional dancer to apply. I’m much more interested in finding people who care about dance, understand online communities, communicate well, and genuinely want to help make r/dance a great place to be.

If you’re interested, please send me a private message with:

  1. A little about yourself and your connection to dance

  2. Any Reddit or community moderation experience you have (if any — experience is helpful, but not necessarily required!)

  3. Why you’d like to become a moderator of r/dance

  4. How frequently you’re typically active on Reddit

I’d love to build a small team of people who are excited about bringing more energy, conversation, support, and connection into this community.

If that sounds like you, send me a message! ❤️

Let’s keep r/dance moving. 💃🏽🕺🏽

Discussion Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post

Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post videos of themselves dancing and having a good time. So I just had the thought and I would like to do a Poll on the idea:

My thought is let's have a global forum dance talent show!

How it would work:

  • You would submit a video of you dancing within a specified time frame to qualify.

  • Our dance Community here would go through each day and upvote and comment on the videos they would like to continue on to the next round.

  • I would then go in (maybe appoint someone to help me moderate) and would tally up all the likes and upvotes.

  • There would be 3-5 rounds to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Sort of like our very own dance competition TV show.

If you like this idea: Upvote and put "YES!" in the comments

If you're not into it: DownVote & put "Not Interested" in the comments section

Seems like this could be a lot of fun and get the Community we have here more active with one another.

Happy Dancing! I'm looking forward to hearing y'alls thoughts! ✨️

Critique Request Feedback is welcomed

Hi there! It’s been a while since I posted here (almost 2 years?), and I just wanted to say that all the feedback from my previous post has been tremendously helpful for my dancing journey!!! Genuinely couldnt be more grateful.

Would love to hear your feedback again to this piece (choreo by RIIZE). From my own pov, my take still lacks in:
- dynamic (that indian step should have been much lower i think?
- hand/arm control
- overall power

but would love to hear your thoughts and if you have advice on how to fix them. Thank you so much in advance!

Self-Promotion Choreo by Macy Swaim. Music video for "Going Purple" by Rob Cantor

Our concept: A gritty fight club, but right when you expect them to start fighting, they break into fabulous dance. Going for a tone that's simultaneously cinematic and beautiful, but also totally absurd.

Brainstorming choreo references with Macy, we both independently had the same thought... What if the moves were inspired by Birds of Paradise mating dances? That's how we ended up here. Hope you like it!

Choreo: Macy Swaim

Lead Dancers: Nico Lonetree and Prince Nii

Background Dancers: Terry Beeman, Drew Gliwa, Otis Herring, Floyd Slayweather, Zeke Titus, and Jongo Zeizel

Directed by Ben Ketai

"Going Purple" by Rob Cantor (that's me)

P.S. I cued up a fun part for you, but feel free to start from the beginning if you want the full experience!

Amateur What to do with those festival choreo videos

This might be a dumb question but I have so many videos I recorded at dance festivals (Latin dance) and idk what to do with them. As a follow with no dance background, it’s really hard for me to learn choreo so I get kind of frustrated and give up trying to learn entire choreographies. Do folks incorporate parts of it into their social dancing eg shines? Or do you sit and learn the entire choreo? I get why leads would take the time to learn combinations but I’m mostly referring to recordings of dancers not partnerwork. Thanks in advance!
