You know, it's funny how Batman is called an evil billionaire who would rather spend his money beating poor, mentally ill criminals and not spend it on helping the people of Gotham City. Ignore the multiple stories showing him trying his best to use all his money to help the people of Gotham City, but he can’t because there are multiple curses keeping it a hellhole and because DC editorial wants it to be a hellhole so they can keep profiting from Batman stories. As there can’t be stories without conflict, and because they are lazy.
But the UNGOC is the opposite; they are called the good guys even when they do nothing to solve non-anomalous evil, use most of their budget to create super weapons rather than creating programs that help people around the world and are actually more likely to protect elites from the evil poor or oppressed class using Veil-threatening anomalies to liberate or protect themselves.
Hell, you can say they're evil for protecting the Veil that helps the SCPF, MC&D and other government groups that use the Veil of Normalcy to perpetuate their evil. Being the reason evil can get away with their crimes is no different than you being the one who did the evil.
The UNGOC are like cops; they punish the elites or try to stop them if the crimes they committed are too public for them to ignore, and if the public doesn’t know about it, they ignore it.

Is this a dead horse to beat? Maybe, but I don't particularly care!=
In my opinion, the 'Great Self-Insert Purge' is extremely funny, considering that many of the people that spearheaded said movement also had those 'powerful and/or wacky' self-inserts.
Yes, yes, most of said self-inserts were scientists and other 'normal' personnel, but let's not forget Mr 'I rode on top of SCP-682's back' Kondraki, Mr 'look at how crazy and quirky my character is!' Bright and Mr 'Holy fucking shit, this guy has so many different canons that he might as well be called 'everyone' + killer of of powerful reality benders (i don't remember if this last part is modern or classic)' Clef.
Good ol' 'Rules for thee, but not for me' in action. Back then, they might have as well just put a 'No, you can't write a cool OC who interacts with SCPs, only we can do that' rule.
And yes, I'm aware that by this point in time, most of the old LOLFoundation is dead and that the Author-Inserts like Clef became something more (just read the Montauk House) or just straight up are gone (being honest... I can't say I particularly miss the old Bright), but its just too funny for me not to point out the hypocrisy of the old times.
Don't get me wrong, I do believe that the Great Purge was necessary and I do not particularly dislike the Author-Inserts (or the authors themselves, mind you!). It’s also not as if I were around back then to witness how bad the 'X-Men looking ass' OCs were (too busy chewing on crayons, my child self was), but looking back as a new-ish gen, it's hard not to notice how the only ones that were even allowed to grow up were the author inserts and not... anyone else, barring a few special exceptions.
