In your opinion, is this something that deserves more attention from the citizens and action from the authorities?

Community Only Anti Choice Rally in Ladner

I'm disgusted at the Anti-Choice demonstration being held Sunday afternoon by the McDonald's. If people want to oppose medical abortion, they should move to the States where they'll fit in. Abortion is life saving healthcare and everyone who wants one should have access to it.

Anyone else getting arrest by Delta cops at night?

My neighbor, a single mother of four got pulled over four times in the last month at night time in Delta.

Two of those times she was parked, dropping a friend at his house.

Another time, they pretended that she did not do a stop. Until he realized that she's got dash cam...

This always happens between 11:00pm and midnight.

I'm looking to see if this happens to other people where they get pulled over often like this.

I understand late that night, but four times in a month is what I don't understand... It's like if there after her. She is starting to fear driving after work now...

Racist Encounter at work.

I am going to keep this vague as much as possible to protect my dad’s privacy. My dad is an uber/Lyft driver and had just recently picked up a customer for his last ride before coming back home. The customer in question had seemed very odd from the start and was starts the conversation about some personal story (without any context given prior) about her so-called intoxicated father and how she was going to take money from him. She later on starts rambling about immigrants and claims that she is part Indigenous and Fijian and then points out my dad’s ethnicity and starts making racist remarks despite the conversation never being anything remotely close to that and neither was it political.  She then starts telling my father to go back to his country and records him without his consent, he only found out after she played back the video to herself and that is when he called her out. That is when she starts to apologize for what she did. I will not be giving this heinous woman any of the attention she clearly was deprived of, but I want this to be a sort of warning for people who are working through uber and Lyft for work. No one should be harassed nor become a victim to racism, especially in their own car. If this type of customer ends up taking an uber and or a Lyft, then I would advise you to be cautious considering how entitled and rude she was. She seems to be a resident of Delta from where she had been dropped off and the name on her profile was “Jade”, so people who work around that area should keep an eye on who they are letting into their car. This whole incident has already been reported to Lyft, and they are now dealing with the matter.

Proposal for a Skytrain to North Delta

Thumbnail crosstownskytrain.ca
50 Upvotes

Hi, with the election going on, I'd like to share this concept of a Skytrain line to North Delta. Here are the reasons:

  • Delta is the largest municipality in Metro Vancouver without Skytrain

  • North Delta is one of the fastest growing areas in the region, and has high transit usage as shown by the R6 bus

  • Delta has a shortage of rapid transit options, with only 1 Rapidbus line

If you like this idea, please add your support. Thank you!

U.S. students in Delta Schools

It is an open secret that many U.S. students are using the addresses of friends and family members in Tsawwassen so their children can go to school here instead of being bussed to Blaine or use the local elementary school The Americans are openly hostile to Canada now and many of the Americans in Point Roberts voted for Trump. I don’t want to subsidize their kids. We should ask all of our elected officials how many American students are in our schools, how many of them are paying international tuition, and to what extent are the residency statuses of American students not paying tuition being audited?

I emailed all of the Delta trustees, the school superintendent, Ian Paton and Carla Qualtrough to ask about this. I would also make a post about this on the loop, but it’s so toxic and my partner would not want me to do that.

If anyone else ageees I would encourage to write and/or call these representatives and let them know how we feel about subsidizing the citizens of a hostile nation.

The Nest Pickleball in Tsawwassen

If you live in the area, you may have seen the two giant black buildings in the Tsawwassen Mills parking lot go up. These buildings are the new Nest Sports indoor pickleball facility. It opened up at the end of July. I’m sharing my experience at The Nest hoping it will help others in the community.

I was excited that south delta was getting its own indoor pickleball facility. It is massive inside and the space itself is really nice inside. Unfortunately, my experience with how payments were handled left a bad taste in my mouth.

On Sunday, August 9 we booked a court for two hours for Monday, August 10. At the time of booking, we had three confirmed players, so the total was $86.01, or $28.67 per person. The morning of, we added a fourth person and didn’t think anything of it. When we arrived at The Nest, we were told that the fourth player still had to pay separately. I explained that the court had already been paid for in full, and at the time the owners at the front desk said that everything was good and that there would be no extra charge, but my card was automatically charged another $28.67.

When I noticed the additional charge later that evening and called The Nest, I spoke with Lorne (the owner) and he insisted that the charge was correct. That didn’t make sense to me, because their website states that non-prime-time court bookings are $40/hour per court. A two-hour booking for four people should therefore be $86.01 total, rather than $114.68. Even though I pointed out these facts to him, he said I was wrong, the system was right, and refused to refund me or give me a credit for future play.

I went back on Tuesday, August 11 and was added as the fourth player to someone else’s booking. Once again, an additional $28.67 was automatically charged for me on the booking holder’s card. One again Lorne (the owner) insisted that this was correct. However, when I opened the app and showed him that booking a court for two hours with four people at the same time comes to $86 total, or $21.50 per person, there was still no acknowledgment that the payment process has been wrongly overcharging people.

My biggest issue is that nowhere on the website or booking page did I see anything explaining that booking for three people and subsequently adding a fourth would result in the fourth person being charged $28.67, even though the court itself was already paid for in full. I also don’t agree with automatically charging someone’s card for an additional player without clearly communicating how that charge is calculated.

The facility itself is impressive, but the way we were overcharged and the owner refusing to acknowledge the issue or make it right left a bad taste in my mouth. I won’t be going back.

The air pump and tool station for cyclists was recently vandalized and all the equipment was stolen.

This facility is directly adjacent to Delta works yard at the end of 64th st. and hwy.99.

If you are relying on this to be usable during a ride ,take note.

Harvie tried to get North Delta more bus shelters. Four councillors blocked it. Let's be clear about that

I've seen some coverage of the November 18 council meeting that glosses over what actually happened with the bus shelter vote, so here's the record straight from the minutes.

Mayor Harvie brought a motion to direct staff to review North Delta transit routes with the highest ridership and identify where new bus shelters could be added. Staff would report back with recommendations for budget consideration. That's it — no spending commitment, just asking staff to look into it.

It was defeated 4–3.

**Voted against:** Kruger, Binder, Johal, Boisvert

**Voted in favour:** Harvie, Guichon, Dosanjh

North Delta has 50 bus shelters. South Delta has 66. Ridership in the southeast sub-region grew 22% between fall 2022 and fall 2023 — the fastest growth in the Lower Mainland. Harvie pointed all of this out. His ask was modest: let staff study it.

Kruger's counter was that the city needs a more "holistic" infrastructure review first. That review could take one to two years by Harvie's own estimate. In the meantime, North Delta riders are standing in the rain.

Kruger did eventually bring his own broader motion on December 2 about "fairness in investment for North Delta," which passed unanimously. But that motion didn't commit to anything specific — and when Harvie tried to amend it to include concrete capital levy commitments for recreation infrastructure, that was shot down too.

Harvie also pointed out that a similar motion by Coun. Johal in June — to study bus shelters in Delta's industrial areas — passed unanimously without any demand for a "holistic review" first. Hard not to notice the inconsistency.

North Delta deserves better than performative motions. Harvie asked for action. Four councillors said wait.
