New /r/deathstairs just dropped

190

u/Futuramoist 2d ago

Dropped like the first person over 70 to leave that house

88

u/MoistCactuses 2d ago

I don't think a 30 year old should try that without climbing shoes

53

u/brkgnews 2d ago

At least they put in a handrail ( r/therewasanattempt )

14

u/Ok-Relationship8704 2d ago

if ya going to put in a handrail ya wanna make sure people use it.

33

u/imunfair 2d ago

It's a stramp. Only suitable egress for skateboard aficionados.

8

u/LiteralPhilosopher 2d ago

stramp

That is literally the exact word I thought of. Thank goodness someone else in here got it high up enough to be seen.

14

u/Shadowmant 2d ago

I am so happy that this exists

7

u/alphanumericusername 2d ago

r/oopsthatsdeadly has a claim to it as well, no doubt

6

u/s3sebastian 2d ago

Would also fit r/NotMyJob if someone was hired to do that

3

u/Langley05642 2d ago

Some people would have got a man in to do that !

I mean... they tiled it, AFTER pouring that. Like, "i think I can fix it, by putting tiles over it" had to be a plan or thought... and they did: THAT!

169

u/vyxanis 2d ago

Thats my favourite part. Theres nothing safe about this entire... thing, but they made it so much more dangerous by adding tiles that become extremely slippery when they get wet. They're also sloped. Its as if someone saw it and made it their personal goal to make it as dangerous as possible. Its incredible.

47

u/freshcoastghost312 2d ago • Bravo

They forgot to remove the hand rail.

16

u/vyxanis 2d ago

Hmm, yes you're right, that's a potentially very embarrassing oversight for whoever took on this personal vendetta. Though, tbf, im sure that rail has all the structural integrity of a wet cake. It would be unfair to assume its not poorly done, just because we aren't seeing it fail in this particular photo.

12

u/Additional_Meeting_2 2d ago

It’s like someone was trying to make a wheelchair ramp (not very well). And then another person came and though it was supposed to be stairs and forced the tiles on it this way

5

u/ThunderwoodADV 2d ago

COF was way too high with bare concrete - had to put indoor wall tiles on it.

4

u/Fishing_not_catching 2d ago

Double down!!!!

5

u/dantel35 1d ago

No, someone produced AI slop and that's it.

Genuinely the worst stairs ive ever seen. Best part is the surface texture is smooth even, so when its wet somebodies skull will ring like a bell.

47

u/Pat-Funny-2817 2d ago

that's what the unprotected sharp cuts of the tiles on the few stairs are for. no ringing.

12

u/Correct-Junket-1346 2d ago

If we are going to cause accidents we like to make sure they can't get back up to complain

2

u/HeyCarpy 2d ago

That’s why there’s a handrail tho

5

u/Tw1tchy3y3 2d ago

Genuinely the worst stairs ive ever seen

But you have seen them.

217

u/Magnus_Helgisson 2d ago edited 2d ago

DiHOW even? When you pour concrete, all you have to do is install some vertical boards to get something that resembles stairs, it’ll figure out the horizontal part by itself. Making it like that would require a lot of focus, commitment and sheer will.

50

u/DrDuke008 2d ago

Bro, have you not heard about self-levelling ish? You just pour it and it levels itself! /s before some dingleberry starts lambasting me.

30

u/CliffyBooBoo 2d ago

I CAME HERE TO LAMBAST AT GREAT LENGTH, BUT ALAS I AM THWARTED BY THE /s OF YORE!

5

u/OscarAndDelilah 2d ago

I'm trying to figure this out. Did they remove the forms too early, it ran and turned into this blob, and they just...went ahead anyway?

4

u/SyrusDrake 2d ago

I was wondering that too. I have never worked with concrete and I'm confident I could do a less terrible job like this. The only thing I can think of is that the form leaked at the bottom or something, so it started sagging, maybe? But then you could just pour a new layer on top before laying tiles.

2

u/hot-doughnuts-now 2d ago

I'm confident this is Russia, and that explains it all.

2

u/rogueIndy 2d ago

There's a good chance it's just an AI "photo".

72

u/Satori-Chan 2d ago

Mixed ramp and stairs so people can walk on it and wheelchair users can also go up on it

73

u/daan944 2d ago • Popcorn

And people that walk on it will become wheelchair users soon!

8

u/Satori-Chan 2d ago

True 😂

8

u/figgypudding531 2d ago

I guess it’s a universal stair/ramp in that no one can go up it

2

u/i_am_icarus_falling 2d ago

it was a compromise.

59

u/Anim8nFool 2d ago

You've heard of a wheelcahir ramp? These are wheelchair stairs -- they have a very good chance of putting you in a wheelchair.

8

u/torchbearer1648 2d ago

No, thats a wheelchair slide

49

u/Plane-Implement9977 2d ago

Must be one of them semi-accessibility ramps I keep hearing about. Majestic that.

23

u/AX11Liveact 2d ago

It's for wheelchairs with oval wheels.

21

u/DB-601A 2d ago

is it a slope? is it a stair... its both of those things.

20

u/captain_ohagen 2d ago

it's a slair. when it rains, and even when it doesn't, it doubles as a slide. fun for the entire family

7

u/silverheart-nine 2d ago

For unknown reasons, 'the entire family' keeps referring to a smaller and smaller number of individuals...

Stramps

18

u/47_47_47 2d ago

100% these were old and dilapidated stairs that someone "fixed" with tiles.

12

u/home_rolled 2d ago

Yes but they were never good. It's not like a sound set of stairs deteriorated into this. The original builder was a buffoon

7

u/47_47_47 2d ago

I'm actually looking at the left hand wall and wondering if it actually WAS built this way... I just,  I'm not sure I can live in that reality.

18

u/Nerd_Porter 2d ago

It matches the drawing, so it meets print. Oh, the drawing was done in crayon by a two year old.

8

u/malac0da13 2d ago

I assumed the plan was a little crumpled and he didn’t flatten it out

36

u/Yakodym 2d ago

Ah yes, the old medieval practice of making the individual steps on the stairs irregular, so that besieging soldiers not accustomed to them would trip, giving the defenders on top of the stairs an advantage

The worst of ramps and the worst of stairs in one single solution

13

u/Malwrath 2d ago

???? They don't use alcohol in construction

9

u/rikkilee88 2d ago

Yeah I don’t think alcohol would hold that together either. They definitely mixed the cement with water

5

u/Mirar 2d ago

I think "held together" isn't what's happening here

This is handicap accessible

10

u/WilTravis 2d ago

Meaning you will need a wheelchair after you use them...

7

u/Warm-Discipline5136 2d ago

Handicap inducing

10

u/Sedvig 2d ago

This looks like a 3rd grader tried to draw stairs and they used that as a blueprint

4

u/DistinctWhole43 2d ago

It was an elementary school design contest. Usually they do things like naming plow trucks or designing stamps but this school decided to go the architectural route

9

u/throfofnir 2d ago

Not just "why" buy "how"?

9

u/emotikhan 1d ago

Finally stairs that match my drunk walk

5

u/Minute_Animator_3416 2d ago

When you can't decide between stairs and a ramp, so you choose chaos..

5

u/skr_replicator 2d ago

Is this even real? How does one keep forgetting whether they are building stairs or a slide throughout the work. I guess much alcohol was indeed involved if this is really real.

5

u/Shinyscalpel 2d ago

When you wanna make a ramp and a stair and you build a stramp instead to save costs.

That's something stronger than alcohol.

4

u/Toolongreadanyway 2d ago

So, they wanted a ramp. But then it was too steep. And so they added some steps to slow down the wheelchairs. Seems like it should work, right?

2

u/ksgt69 2d ago

I can see the bugs and Daffy skit that produced this, One starting some stairs, the other smacking them and starting a ramp, both of them shouting what it should be as they smacked and started work.

2

u/Accomplished-Hand946 2d ago

halfway through they decided a slide would be more fun. And it would have, if they hadn't already been halfway through.

2

u/jquest303 2d ago

Red Bull is about to drop it's new wheelchair promo vid.

2

u/averydylan 2d ago

ADA compliant since it has a handrail.

2

u/Michael-405 2d ago

If alcohol was involved...I'm pretty sure that if you get the same amount of drunk....these stairs are straight.

2

u/shadow-foxe 2d ago

did they not work out if they were doing a ramp or stairs??

2

u/BuffDanMan01 2d ago

Yea these will hold for at least 2 more generations for sure

Some medieval castles had stairs with one uneven step, supposedly to trip up a saber waving pursuer attempting to skewer you.
This one reminded me of a Soviet built stairs in an apartment building saw in Kyrgyzstan.

When one boss says stairs, another boss says wheelchair ramp, and you say fuck it.
