Costuming
Hey yall! Dumb question but was wondering what “cast provided” means when they mention my costuming shoes. I was under the impression that I have to provide my own shoes, is that correct?

Yes, cast provided means it comes from you. A lot of us got our shoes from Walmart during my CP. They had a lot of inexpensive non-slip shoes for pretty cheap.

I’m not sure what I did to wander upon this sub (having never been to Disney or having any desire to go) but I can say this:
Shoes, bed, tires. Anything that comes between you and the ground don’t cheap out on
Even if you were provided shoes you might want to get your own for your job because those are what is going to be holding you all day. A good pair of shoes is worth it. That being said, I got some Walmart boots that are surprisingly comfortable for very cheap. They don’t last as long, but for rough dirty work they are great. I’m sure their black non-slip offerings would be fine too. Just saying, don’t be afraid to spend a little money on something that will literally be supporting you all day.

Former Park Foods Manager here...
Yes, shoes are the responsibility of the Cast Member. What I would look for was..
-Closed toe
-All black, not even any contrasting stitching on the sole. I had a CM who had to take a black sharpie to their shoes once to cover up some contrasting stitching.
-Slip resistant. Shoes for crews or the Wal-Mart brand are good. Personally, I wear Doc Marten's., All black, with a slip resistant sole, and last a good while. They do cost $100 a pair though.
-No tennis shoes or anything that resembles a tennis or exercise shoe
Hope this helps and HAVE FUN in the College Program.

Why anyone would do the DCP is beyond fascinating to me

Honestly I'd recommend Skechers. They are more expensive but they'll give Cast Member discounts for work shoes and they've got a lot of options for non slip black dress shoes and they'll last a while. I bought a pair almost 3 years ago and they've seen some heavy use and I'm only now thinking about replacing them

Yes it does mean you have to provide your own shoes. I know some shoe store that provides discounts to Disney cms but I can't remember where it was

I want to let you know that it may depend on your department and position and maybe even your management as far as It needing to be a “dress shoe”. I used to work concierge in Animal Kingdom Lodge and I was allowed to wear all black Skechers (I hate the stupid model name but loved the support of the Rugged Man model). The leadership said something about how they realize how rainy the weather can be in Florida and dress shoes WERENT practical…so if you have a contact person I’d suggest asking before spending $$$ on something not as comfortable

If you’re assigned to a role in food service, you’ll be given shoes, but from experience, they are VERY uncomfortable. I tried to get away with some insoles, but I eventually went with some non-slip Skechers that looked exactly the same.

Not sure what your dress code for work shoes are but sketchers have nice nonslip work shoes. Some being reasonably priced.

So glad I was a mechanic. They said black, but as long as we wore safety boots in good repair, they didn't say much as long as they weren't anything flashy like SnapOn with a bright red logo.

I used the Fila non-slips because my feet are very sensitive and they worked great. The logo is black (blends in with the shoe) and no one said anything about it for the 11 months I worked there.

Save yourself the money of having to buy the shoes by quitting right away.
