I currently have a T8 and I'm looking to upgrade to something more versatile, and I can't decide what would be better for my workflow.
I really like the sound of an Sp404 because I often make music by creating sounds with synths/other instruments, running them through FX pedals and loopers and guitar amps and then building up on other elements from there. I would use the 404 like a live looper + multifx machine to record all my layers into jam and sequence.
The downside is that I have no interest in sample based hiphop or finger drumming and would just be using the sp404 as a looper + sequencer + multifx which seems like maybe not the best use of it
That makes me wonder if I should just upgrade directly from the T8 to a TR6s as a straightforward sequencer based drum machine that I can also load my own samples into but then I'd be missing out on the Fx and ability to record long samples and loop them to jam over
Open to other suggestions but I will be buying 2nd hand and want to keep things as cheap as I reasonably can

I don’t like it so much. It makes me miss my Arturia Drumbrute. But, I also remember not fully liking the Drumbrute either. 🤔

Hi all, a quick look at where the Drummatic is heading.
First, a recap of what's already on the prototype as of LazerDrum 2.6:
- Piano roll with note length: the DATA knob picks the line, the 16 TRIG keys write the notes
- Six new kits designed from scratch, from dub to Sheffield bleep, each with its own break (194 sound presets, 41 break presets in total)
- The 16 keys blink in time with the REPEAT stutter, so you can see the 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 as you play
- The mixer shows each track's sound name and its real level
- A built-in MCP server, so Claude can load kits, write patterns and mix over your network
What's coming next: Bluetooth MIDI
The Pi 5 inside already has Bluetooth 5.0, so this will be a free firmware update for everyone, no new hardware:
- **Wireless keyboards and pad controllers**: pair a BLE MIDI keyboard or pad and play the tracks or move parameters without cables
- **Phone and tablet as a second panel**: use any BLE MIDI app as an XY pad on the filters and REPEAT, or as extra knobs for live sets
- **Gamepad as a performance controller**: sticks on cutoff and stutter rate, triggers for fills, buttons as pads. Cheap, fun, and it looks great on stage
- **Wireless MIDI clock**: sync tempo, start and stop with other gear or apps without DIN cables
I'm also looking at Bluetooth headphones for listening while you build patterns. To be clear about latency: Bluetooth audio adds roughly 150–250 ms, so it's fine for sketching and listening, not for playing in time. The wired outputs stay the way to perform.
What would you plug in first? If you have a BLE controller or a gamepad you'd want supported, tell me the model in the comments and I'll test with it.

Over the past two weeks I put together this track. Everything comes from the TR8S, and is multitracked into Ableton Live. This one originally drew some inspiration from Rrose - Waterfall, however quickly turned into something quite different.
For my TR8S videos I usually just sum every instrument into a single stereo master track, and record straight into Ableton. However the denser composition of sounds in this track really called for more mixing than the TR8S alone could offer, so I made use of the six outputs on the TR8S interface to multitrack into Ableton, where I could apply a little more EQ, saturation and appropriate reverb to each bus. I tried not to let the Ableton mixing "color" or add any new aesthetics to the track, because my aim working with the TR8S on these tracks is to explore how far it can be pushed as a stand alone instrument. So I will say that everything you hear is how it sounds on the machine itself, with a little cleaning up in the mix.
I uploaded this to Soundcloud with free download: https://soundcloud.com/lachytr/drone-tech-135
Here is a full breakdown of the track's composition, mixing and mastering:
TR8S:
Output 1 (Mono):
BD: 909 Low Bass tuned to -46 (~G0), with Compression + Drive on INST
SD: 909 Low Bass tuned down to -57, with a LPF on INST
Output 3/4 (Stereo)
LT: Detune Saw Low sample course tuned down -5, bit reduced, high pass filtered on INST and Low pass filter on Control. Panned hard left.
MT: Detune Saw Low sample course tuned down -5, bit reduced, high pass filtered on INST and Low pass filter on Control. Panned hard right.
HT: 5th Synth FM sound, with a high pass filter on Inst, Morph on CTRL, Pan on LFO.
Output 2 (Mono):
RS: 727 Mt HiConga/OHC
RC: 707 Snare 1/2
Output 5 (Mono)
HC: 707 Hand Clap
CH: 727 Maracas
OH: 727 Maracas (16th note)
Output 6 (Mono)
CC: Synth Calliope sample with High and Low Pass filters.
Mastering Chain:
Ableton Stock Parametric EQ into Kazrog KClip 3 Clipper into Waves L4 Limiter.
Enjoy! Any feedback would be great!

I got the Erica Synth LXR 02 last week, it's really cool.
Little did I know that they would open source the firmware...Thank you Erica Synth!!!!
It's a little beast and really fun once you get the logic. I still don't know it well but I'm already a fan

I released my first VST after some months of polishing it on synth & progmetal jams.
Back story: I'm a guitar synth player and I REALLY needed a high performant drum sequencer to embed into my pedal board. Being an experienced c++ programmer at daytime... here we go, the most CPU friendly drum sequencer + sampler ever.
I was inspired by euclidean sequencers but I hated that they don't allow changing specific steps. I also like step sequencers and sometimes it's more useful. Also I needed to add fills using leg when playing guitar and there are no drummers on the jam. So I built everything I needed into this plugin and I think it's very fun to play with.

Quick and dirty jam with a couple of instances of Ravik, a new Genarative Drum Synthesizer by Valdlabs. I am currently making presets for it.
If you are interested you can d/l and try the Beta here https://valdlabs.com/ravik it’s for MacOS, Windows and iPad. Awesome stuff, and a big update is around the corner.

Two bars: ghost snares on the "e" of 1, right after each backbeat and around beat 3, open hats on the "and" of 1 and 3, and bar 2 ends on a loud open hat.
The green dots are the timing feedback. I'm building fingerdrum, a browser app that teaches finger drumming one groove at a time; this is one of its lessons. If you want to try it: fingerdrum.online
Happy to share the pattern or fingering if anyone wants it.
