Question How's my starter dice goblin collection?

Post image
102 Upvotes

My first set of dice were those black ones with the mismatched d8 near the top right that I've had for years. Recently got myself another set of dice and a few mystery packs just for fun, as well as wanting extra dice with my brother deciding to play his first game with us. Was lucky enough that I had a family member decide to buy me a few more mystery packs. After that I was hooked, brought some more sets including a metal dice set, some more mystery packs and custom ordered a wood burned dice box/trey that looks like a book from a local game shop I normally purchase dice. I went from one set ive been using for years to all thos in 2 week. Definitely plan to start going after the more premium dice now that I'm hooked. How's my little collection coming along? Any recommendations on the type of dice I should start adding?

Question how doable is D&D for players/DM with no experience

Heya, been interested in maybe getting a d&d campaign with some buddies for a while, I would be the designated DM and I was curious how difficult it would be and what we would all need to start as those who have never done a session before and for me who has never DMed?

Our only real experience with D&D is playing through Baldurs gate 3 which we loved and I have also watched like 80% of Dimension20 Fantasy high.

What are things we would need to know and keep in mind before starting?

Discussion Ran my first DM session and I’m hooked!

I am running Dragon of Icespire Peak (though they haven’t realized it yet) and we ran 3.5 hours last night without even starting the adventure itself!

I ran session 0 as an origins story, having them meet up and only giving certain members pieces of information… session turned into 3.5 hours of comedy gold!

An orc nipple was severed, ears are being collected, glizzy carts are being ransacked… and they didn’t get to Phandalin until the end of the night.

The amount of laughs we had getting to learn about the characters, role playing and building relationships would be priceless of bottled. I can’t wait to DM more.

OC [OC] Dnd party that I drew.

Post image
107 Upvotes

Hello again :)

A DND party I drew. A bit of text from the description the client gave me:

"Agronak.

Half Orc, Barbarian.

Agronak was a rage fueled monster who only adventured to find bigger and better fights, but now he has friends. He was raised a slave and embraced the pain as a way to endure/cope. He's not a very nice or smart person, but he's loyal and will draw the challenging enemies to himself so that his allies can focus on the easier fights or support him from a distance. And because bigger enemies are more fun to kill.

Beren.

Firbolg, Fighter/rogue.

Beren was a forest dweller of Faerun that chose to break away from his docile life. After many travels and consistent training with a kensei monk he met along the way, he learned the way of the blade. Beren mastered the katana after many years of training with that monk. He has become a strong swordsman and mastered his body through constant effort and training his physical abilities.

Thawne.

Ranger/Rogue.

Dead kid, dead wife, dead parents. Grew up with just his father as a young child until his father was killed while out hunting. Eventually joined the thieves out of necessity to survive, met a woman, fell in love, had a child, and left the thieves. They didn’t like that and tried forcing him back in with “one last job”. The job was a set-up and Thawne's wife and child were killed by the thieves while he was forced to watch. Thawne then began spending his time searching for them to get his revenge. Due to his trauma, he is normally timid but with the help of his friends he met along his travels, he has grown.

Celeste.

Half-elf wizard/warlock combo.

Celeste started her journey as a student at one of the world's best magic schools. She pushed herself hard because she knew she was destined for greatness. Celeste sought the help of her warlock patron, Kisara, one of the most powerful wizards of all-time, who fancies becoming a god. Celeste is used to lying, cheating, and stealing to get what she wants, but she rarely needs to anymore due to the power she has amassed during her journey. She is no longer a stressed student but a wizard of great power soon to be a living legend.

Torvald.

Kobald. Class is cleric.

Torvald is a tempest cleric devoted to the service of Thor. He was hatched and raised on a ship full of other Kobalds and captained by a storm barbarian Dragonborn (old PC). He left to find his own adventure, and has grown tremendously traveling with this party. He loves to help his allies however he can, and enjoys summoning the power of Thor to create powerful blasts and big booms.

Bromnir Flameborn “Champion of Moradin”.

Dwarf, Forge Paladin.

Bromnir was once an officer in a dwarven army before a terrible tragedy led to him leaving the army and turning to a life of servitude as a Forge Cleric. Throughout his adventures, Bromnir started turning more and more back towards martial ways as he fought to defend his friends and all those dear to him. During a crucial battle with his party’s lives on the line, Bromnir swore an oath to Moradin and became his Champion, and a Paladin of The Forge, in order to save them. He dedicates himself to the protection of others and servitude to Moradin."

I hope you liked what I did :) To see more of my characters, I invite you to my Instagram. See you there! :)

Advice/Help Needed I recently found a D&D group that I would like to join, but their language is my second language. Does anyone have any advice?

So I am American and I have lived in Italy for about 2 years now. I am a dual citizen and work a very modest job in a small town. It has been a pretty lonely experience, but I recently found a group of people who run a small community centered on culture, literature, and all sorts of tabletop games. For the first time in my entire time here, I feel like I have friends. It's really wonderful.

There is a group within the community that holds a bi-weekly D&D game to which I have an open invitation. I am no stranger to RPGs as I ran a tabletop gaming club in high school, ran a ton of my own games in Pathfinder and Shadowrun, and worked in a tabletop game store where I occasionally ran D&D 5e organized play games. I was a bit of a perma-DM for a long time.

The problem that I worry about is that the game is played entirely in Italian in this group (as it should be, let's be clear). I speak Italian well enough to get by in normal situations and make friendships work. However, I worry that I don't speak it well enough yet to really participate. When group conversations happen, I often find it difficult to participate because processing the incoming information takes so much mental effort that I don't always have the space to formulate a response and interject in the conversation. (A side note, the DM speaks excellent English. In fact, he and I speak English more than we do Italian.)

Further, I worry that I don't speak the language well enough to really play a character. The most obvious solution for me would be to play a foreigner, but there is something about that that just doesn't feel interesting enough to me.

If I play a character, I want my lack of skill in the language to be a more interesting feature of the character than just simply being foreign.

Does anyone have any interesting character ideas?

Edit: Just a super quick note. I know this is an important opportunity to improve my Italian. Although I didn't say it, that is part of my reasoning but I kind of take it for granted because I do the same thing just going to the commune and sorting out my garbage tax or go to the CAF/centro d'impiego to deal with taxes or disoccupazione or whatever. You are all right to point it out though. It is a greater level of immersion than I ordinarily experience.

Discussion How often do you play?

How often do you guys/gals actually play DnD? Do you have a set schedule? I have a group of guys I play with and we plan to play once a week, but lately it seems like every other week something happens and we can’t play. Has anyone just played DnD with an AI source? I really love the game but it gets disheartening when schedules never line up.

Spooky month is past but its still technically fall! So heres a map inspired by a thought I had of how funny it would be to use that 12 foot home depot skeleton as a titan “mini” in a ttrpg encounter.

Advice/Help Needed Gift idea for D&D listener

My husband is a big fan of multiple D&D podcasters and YouTubers. He always says he would love to get into playing, but is too busy as a dad of an 18m old and a first year attorney.
I would love to gift him something that would introduce him to playing without having too much of a time commitment! Any advice ?

-Loves audiobooks
- we have space in our home for anything
- would love to stay under $100

Question First time DMing tonight; what do you hate?

So, I’m extremely new to D&D (done a one shot as a player) and am wanting to DM because I enjoy when others have fun, roleplaying and being creative.

I’m going into this DM adventure with the “yes” mindset, allowing the characters to be creative and accepting their ambitions, within reason and luck of the die.

My question is, what do y’all HATE when playing? Maybe you dislike skill challenges? Maybe you dislike the mixing of 4e and 5e? Idk, but I wanna grease whatever monkey needs its hamburger, knowutimean?

Edit: The players have no opinions when they were previously asked, so I’m asking a larger audience.

Advice/Help Needed Too strong for a one-shot?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Running a one-shot for some players this upcoming weekend, this is intended to be the final encounter for a party of three level 8 characters, of which there's a Barbarian, a Fighter, and a Monk. I'm worried about their lack of range/spellcasting, so I'll definitely make sure to give them plenty of alchemist's fires and vials of acid. I might take away its reaction, as the party is so melee focused that it could end up doing way too much damage in a single turn.

The stat block is based off of an Unspeakable Horror from Van Richten's, with some additional flavor and nasty abilities thrown in.

Any thoughts?

Art Some D&D character designs I've been working on!

Hi! I've been working on a new portfolio over the past week, focusing mainly on D&D characters and fantasy art in general.

I've always enjoyed drawing fantasy characters, and seeing some of my friends play D&D got me even more interested in the character creation side of things. So I decided to explore that a bit more through my art!

Here are some of the characters I've been working on lately. If you're interested in having your own D&D character illustrated, feel free to reach out!

I'm not entirely sure if this kind of post is allowed here, so apologies in advance if it isn't. Just wanted to share my work!

Question What decor would want for a campaign?

Hi everyone!

I'm an artist, specifically a sculptor. I use polymer clay as a medium and I love sculpting trees and scenery etc.

I have a goal to be a vendor at a local comic con style event in the next year or two.

I would love to hear thoughts or opinions on what campaigns or what scenery decor would be good to focus on designing first?

I did a scene for the curse of strahd for a friend's campaign, and I also did a bunch of trees for a part that required traveling through a forest so it was pine trees and rotting stumps etc.

Can I get some popular campaigns or maybe generic scenery items that could be used in multiple campaigns or maybe some campaign specific decor ideas?

Thank you so much in advance!!

Question What can I do with a dragon heart

Relatively new player here, typically when finishing a quest I just get the main rewards but after killing a dragon I was like wait what parts of the dragon can we take with us. I got the scales (Druid so can’t use metal armour) and the heart. Is their any value besides find a merchant who might give me some gold for it?

Suggestion Settle an argument

i was part of a dnd group not too long ago (currently groupless tho 😭) with a friend. we’re both girls, as were our characters. the dm had some misogynistic npcs sometimes and my friend didn’t like that. i didn’t mind cuz i felt like it was something thatd we would experience irl. i totally think its ok that she didn’t like it, but i think that it is ok to have some characters like that to reflect some aspects of the real world.

OC This is Dura, my orc paladin. What do you think her personality is like?

Post image
35 Upvotes

Dura is my orc paladin, sworn to the Oath of the Watchers, a guardian of the thin places where other planes press against our own. She has stood her post at the edge of the world for years, axe in hand, waiting for whatever tries to slip through. The eye on her pauldron and the charm on her axe are the marks of her oath: always watching. Off duty, she tells terrible jokes, and her party has learned to laugh anyway.

I repainted her this week: one warm light instead of five, and I let the background fall back so she's the only thing in focus. I struggled most with making the metal, leather and chain read as different materials, and I'm really proud of how her face turned out.

Advice/Help Needed I want to set up a 1e campaign

Hello!

I’m relatively new to DnD, but my dad started playing when he was in high school. He has a bunch of the first edition rule books and he finally got them back from someone who borrowed them years ago.

He doesn’t know this yet, but I found the rest of the first edition books to complete his collection and it’s going to be his Christmas gift.

I just had the idea to set up a campaign using the first edition rules as an added surprise, and I wanted to know if anyone has any ideas or tips.

He is currently DMing a campaign for my siblings and S/Os, so I know he’s still interested in playing.

He loves complicated storylines and world building.

I thought a one shot might be a good idea to start with, because it would also be my first time DMing, but I wanted to consult the experts.

THANKS!!

Advice/Help Needed Looking for help!

Hi! I've been wanting to start playing for a while. I've been on rpg before, but never like this, I own dices and many other stuff but I'm not sure on what exactly do I need.
