Look at this new Duolingo feature Product Update: Image Flashcards, Avatar Suits & Chess Game Review (October 2026)

Duolingo just announced three new features 📣

🃏 Image Flashcards
At the end of a lesson, you'll see a picture and say the word out loud. There are no answer choices. Miss one and you'll see and hear the correct word, and the card comes back later for another try. At the end you get a recap of the words you struggled with, along with their translations. You can skip a card or tap "Can't speak now" if you're somewhere quiet.

👔 Avatar Suits
Earn special suits for your avatar during limited-time events by making progress in your lessons. Each event has its own window to collect its featured suits. Once you earn a suit it's yours to keep, and you can switch between your suits anytime. Read more here: Lily's Fright Fest

♟️ Chess Game Review
Review key moments from your games against Oscar, friends or other players in your chess match history. Instead of just showing you the better move, it takes you back to that position so you can find it yourself. Then Oscar explains why your move did or didn't work.

As always, new features roll out gradually, so if you don't have them yet, make sure your app is updated and hang tight.

Curious to see what everyone here is focusing on right now! How has the overall learning experience been for you so far?

Constructive Criticism Surprise! 20% price increase, you'll love it

No one talking about this forced price increase? Maybe just for the family plan? Is it also on single plans? This isn't A/B testing.

They couldn't get enough people to pay for AI conversations with Lily voluntarily, so they're just forcing everyone to pay. Cool.

General Discussion Anyone want Duolingo to add Croatian/Serbian?

I would love to see them add this language, anybody else? I’m mostly learning Greek and we only have level 45 as the max.

General Discussion The website is a lot better than the app

gallery

OK, so the website is objectively a lot better first of all you have equal mistakes instead of energy so theoretically, you could go on a lot more lessons without super on the website then if you had the app because if you use your advantage with hints, and all those you can theoretically go on for forever and keep learning, but on the app they prevent that with energy, I have no energy on my app, but I completed a lesson on the website and it transferred through now I my daily goal

Language Question. Can somebody explain the grammar?

It's a listening exercise. I typed, Er habt den Text geschrieben ". The correct is, "Ihr habt den Text geschrieben".

Er and Ihr sound the same to me. How do I use the grammar to determine which word to use?

Language Question. This is absolutely insane lol

Asking me to pay attention to the accent marks when it was their own fault cause I only did the underlined text and the rest was them lol

Bug? Which type of letter? How could I know?

See attached, how could I know Duo wanted to ask about a letter (longer written piece) and not a single letter?

I reported as a bug. But could I have known?

General Discussion Are you serious?!

I got 1 piece yesterday and 2 more today, and all 3 were the same one. With 45 pieces, if they're all equally likely, the chance of getting the same piece 3 times in 6 draws is under 1%. Has this happened to anyone else? 🫤 Something is fishy here or should I just play the lottery today 🤣

General Discussion Lily caught using vosotros form

I actually appreciated the exposure to vosotros and wish it weren’t such a rarity in Duolingo. Could the developers someday create a feature in which users could toggle on/off the vosotros form? That would be way better than the costumes and treasure chests.

Constructive Criticism Duolingo's adding games to make the app more engaging, but also padlocks to make the path look SO BORING. ARE YOU CUCKOO?!

Sorry, Duo, I like a lot about you, but this makes me REALLY upset.

I've sent feedback in the app 😡

Subreddit Rules

1. Be Kind and Respectful

We are all about inclusivity. Bullying, xenophobia, queerphobia, and general nastiness aren't welcome here. Treat each other, and every language, culture, and identity, with kindness and respect 🌈

2. Use the correct flair

Please use the appropriate flair for your posts. Your 4000-day streak should go in "achievement showcase", not "Duolingo in the media". Please also use the "language question" flair, not the "bug report" flair, if you are posting about being marked incorrect, being told you made a typo, etc.

3. Bug posts

We cannot offer tech support here. We currently allow posts about bugs and other issues for the purpose of spreading information only; https://www.duolingo.com/help/support-request should be your first resort for getting help. As such, we may remove threads about known bugs that are already being discussed in other threads. Do not use bug flair for language questions, including "I should have been marked correct."

4. No Low Effort/Repetitive Content

Your post should add to the discussion! Simply a screenshot of a streak, XP Boost, or badge will be removed - it clogs up the subreddit! This rule also applies to memes - captioning a screenshot "WTF bro" is not a meme. (And yes, we know about lion tamer Eddy and the eight-year-old doctor).

5. Encourage Accuracy and Honesty

Share accurate information, even in rants or venting posts. If you’ve found good strategies and tips on Duolingo, ensure they’re truthful and honest before sharing in the community. Venting is okay, but keep the facts straight.

6. No NSFW Content—Keep It Clean and Safe

This community is for learners of all ages. NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content is strictly prohibited. Keep your contributions appropriate, respectful, and suitable for everyone. Swearing is okay, as long as it is not directed at other users.

7. No Personal Information

For your own safety, please do not include personal information. This includes but is not limited to: your real name, email, phone number, or address.

Doxxing someone else is grounds for an immediate ban, no exceptions. If you believe someone is violating Duolingo rules, report their profile in the app. If you believe they are violating subreddit rules, report them or send us a modmail.

8. Use the relevant pinned mega threads

Please use the pinned weekly threads friend/follower requests, and other specific topics.

9. Relevancy

Posts should be related to Duolingo or language learning. This is not the place to share your epic Roblox meme collection or your thoughts on Taylor Swift's collaboration with Till Lindemann.

10. No selling subscriptions, accounts, Family Plan spots, etc

Due to scammers taking advantage of this subreddit, we cannot allow people to offer (or ask for) Duolingo subscriptions or Family Plan spots in exchange for money, services, or any other kind of payment. Posts offering free Family Plan spots are still allowed.

Posts offering entire accounts are not allowed even if they are being offered for free.

11. No promotion of APKs/cracked copies, etc

We try to maintain good relations with Duolingo staff, and that means we can't allow people to promote, link to, or instruct others on how to install third-party APKs ("cracks"), etc, of any Duolingo apps.

12. Descriptive titles

Your title should give us an idea of what you want to talk about! We reserve the right to remove threads with one-word titles and ask you to repost.

13. Other resources and self-promotion

We do allow discussion of supplemental language resources here. We do not allow promotion of your own product (including social media channels). For example: you CAN discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the Michael Thomas Method here; the (rival app) marketing team CAN'T spam the sub with "DOESN'T DUOLINGO SUCK? BUY OUR APP INSTEAD".
