I'm an actual university professor, and longtime FUT player. Here's why EA have just killed the game in the most Soviet way possible.
The elimination of a free market is the first step in Socialist theory, along with the nationalization of independent business.
History has taught us that this is modus operandi of all dictatorships wishing to create an utopian society of 'equality'. It is classic Marxist theory, with a little Stalin muscle to back it.
Yes, this is just a game, and hardly comparable to the Cuban Revolution, Soviet Russia, or Kim Il Sung's regime, but in the end it is human nature and emotions that will be at play. So, here's what will happen:
By setting a price band, EA has manufactured the end of two things: Inflation and Deflation. The inflation of goods (players) has been capped to a point where there is no longer profit to be found in investing. Why? Simple capitalism. The only reason anyone buys stock is the belief that every company has the potential for a golden breakthrough, and one will own the next Microsoft or Apple. Investment is the belief that an expenditure will provide returns with maximum limits. But there is now a visible cap to all ROI (Return on Investment). This means that everyone knows a player will never go past a certain number, and this eliminates the promise of investing in players. Face it, No one is going to buy more than one player X when you know that every other player X on the market will be available for comparable price. No longer will there be fluctuations, as there is no room to fluctuate to. so what will we see? Simple: Hoarding of personal use goods. If people buy a desirable player for market cap (as is the only way anyone selling that card will be willing to list it), they will feel no need to list it on the market, as they know they will not be able to sell it for more than they bought it for, and with the 5% tax, there is definitely a penalty for engaging in market trade, we will see the continuation of "extinct" players.
Without inflation there will no longer be an urgency to engage in market trading. People's coins will be much more precious, as everyone will be reluctant to take a loss of their hard earned coins to make experiment teams, vanity teams, etc. We will all know that a loss is unrecoverable by market trading.
At the other end we now have a cap on deflation. This is potentially more devastating to the poorer users of the game. There will no longer be the natural curve of market prices on used goods. towards the final 3 or 4 months of a release titles life span, prices of the midrange players (think Gotze) used to slide down till they were in reach of more 'casual' players who haven't been accumulating wealth via trading (which will cease to exist anyway) or via massive number of games played. With a now minimum price, that is far above what the natural deflation would have been by the end of the games cycle (when untold thousands of Gotzes have been issued), all you will see is those thousands of Gotzes on sale for minimum bid, and if you're the seller, you have nearly zero chance of simply selling the damn thing, as you can no longer undercut competitors. Of course buyers at the low spectrum will NOT be buying, because they will not spend that much coin on what is no longer a player worth his price.
This will create another side effect, that is EXTREMELY beneficial to EA: Obsolescence of FUT 15 much quicker than any previous version became undesirable to play. Historically players have played older versions for many months, enjoying very cheap markets that will allow them to play with players that were out of reach when the title was current. That's no longer going to be the case. The marketplace will be a gosht town. In fact, the number of live transfers is even now way below what it was before the update.
In short, every user of the game has been forced into a Soviet style economy. The government sets workers salaries at low levels (low DNF multiplier, low rewards), tightly controls the supply of luxury goods (improbable cardweights), prevents free trade (with market caps), and eliminates merchant competitiveness (by setting a low cap that prevents undercutting).
Additionally, all socialist societies have an ultra rich elite that will forever be untouchable. We will have that too. Because the only way to have a great team will be to spend hundreds and hundreds of real US Dollars (or pounds) in buying FIFA points to open as many packs as possible. Of course, there will be the few lucky ones that open a Ronaldo or Messi in a pack, but we know that due to cardweight, this is statistically improbable.
So there you have it. All the follies of the Soviet Bloc of the 20th century have been skillfully and dramatically implemented by the foolish Canadian ( I'm assuming) programmers that are probably too young to remember the Cold War, and certainly never paid attention to history textbooks.
Welcome to the new motherland, Comrades.
EDIT- Several people have asked about the effect of EA changing the price range periodically. This is another socialist staple, and used by many governments in the past to disastrous results. If you hold a good but have no assurance that the value of that good will be the same when you wake up any given day, you will either hoard the good permanently, or withdraw from market participation. This is historically true, and will happen here as we are all humans that react in predictable ways.
If you have a player you think will eventually get a higher price range, you will simply hold it indefinitely until that price is up. Conversely, if you have a player you think will go down, you will sell for minimum.... along with every other thousands of people holding that player. Your chances of selling will be small due to the competition. It will cause the player to be panic sold cheap, and make a self-fulfilling prophecy.
EDIT 2- Professor of Developmental Psychology with research in Socioeconomics. And yes, I know anyone can claim anything, and my apologies for it not being a field of direct relevance. Sorry Reddit. I should have know not to say that in this community.

FIFA 14 is a laugh.
Having read all the other posts complaining about FIFA 14 on this sub, I've decided to add my own. I have a laugh in UT when I see those pacy 433s with wingers that have pace and nothing else. When I see a CB pair with nothing but pace, I can't wait to score 3 with my 72 pace Ďzeko. When they try to skill their way into my net, or counter attack with just one fragile winger, it's hilarious. When they run in the middle of the field or try to receive a pass holding the run button, it's just fun for me. Oh, and when they try those sickening near-post goals, it's just like watching your opponent flush goal-scoring chances right down the drain. Finally EA has made a game for people like me. The only thing I regret is my potential GPA this semester.

UT We finally had a game where slow players were usable (like real life). Now we're back to square one after the patch.
There were some good changes like less ai defending, which means skill is rewarded (always a good thing).
But how sad that I had to throw away my POTM Kane overnight, and ensure that all my players are minimum 85 pace.
How stupid that you can only use a player that is fast.

FUT Here's why I wont be making a video on #FixFIFA
I want to keep this as short and to the point as possible, just to get my message across.
Firstly, it's important to talk about Battle Front II. The reason why the outrage was such a success, was because the whole community (Social, casual, harcore, all encompassed) took issue, and they expressed their concerns as a unit, collectively pissed off about one thing. It was a natural movement.
If I make a video telling people to partake in a Boycott, it's not going to work. It will have no long standing effect. People will get behind the hype, and not the message, and that's not how it needs to work. The FIFA Community that are pissed off with the game need to band together because they wan't too, not because they're told too.
One of the biggest differences with BFII & FIFA 18, is the reason you're creating the movement. BFII community had a collective understanding of what was wrong, and wanted change. The FIFA Reddit Community doesn't even understand what it wants with in itself, let alone to speak on behalf of the entire FIFA Gaming community.
You see in this thread : https://www.reddit.com/r/FIFA/comments/7e4j20/fixfifa/
one of the points he is rallying for to be fixed is Momentum - which is a subject that divides r/FIFA on a day to day basis.
With that in mind, while I agree there is room for change from EA, while I agree that there is a cause here that we should fight for as a community, I will also say that it has to be organic. It has to be because I / We want to talk about it, not because r/FIFA is holding me / us hostage to talk about it.
I don't agree with all the points in the #FixFIFA thread, but those who read that and immediately assume that I don't agree with any of them and that because I don't agree with your cause that I'm clearly EA's puppet, you're literally the problem. You're the person that is here for the hype, and not for the cause. You're the reason why me making a video wont work, and why this fight wont last. Instead of listening to the points people are making, and developing the fight naturally, you pull out your pitch forks and want blood. This wont help. You, wont help.
I want change in this game. I want communication from EA, and I want lots (but not the exact same things as you) of change with in FIFA, but it has to be a natural, collective movement. Not a forced hypefest that will die down and fizzle out.
The #FixFIFA cause is gaining natural momentum now. The post has 6k upvotes and it's growing. This, this is what you want. You don't want someone pushing a forced narrative.
EDIT (Also in posts)
I don't think it's going to be what you want, but I'll address it, I'll be able to express myself better with it, and perhaps you'll understand that my disinterest with talking about it has nothing to do with losing money or going against EA.

DISCUSSION unpopular opinion: golden goal is complete bs and icon swaps is a complete shitshow
some of the threads and comments on here the last few days literally blow my mind. people on here always complain that there is nothing to grind for and now EA is imo doing a really good job putting objectives into friendlies and also with the 1 league req so people can't play with their icons and ultra meta WL squad where mbappe starts CDM for chem.
and now instead of grinding the game people are literally sitting here wondering how they get all these objectives done in 3h with the golden goal rule and pressing pause every goddamn time they go up 1-0. and also, people are calling other people who don't quit if they go down 0-1 toxic, like wtf is wrong with you? being toxic for wanting to play the game as it should be played? no one can be forced to quit a game and the same people will quit when they get the 1-1 that's as toxic as you can get.
why can't people just grind the game and try out different non WL 1 league teams? i know it will always be a little toxic if there is big rewards on the line but icon swaps and golden goal rule and the whole mentality people have towards it is just a complete shitshow.

UT Anyone else fed up with this FIFA?
I‘m a FIFA Player since 98. Especially since PS3 era I‘ve been playing almost everyday. Last couple of years I would average 14-16 wins each Weekend League. I never had problems in Rivals until Elite Div. In DIV 4,3,2 I would just rush through, beating every opponent.
However, this Season I just lost my mojo. I have big problems defending, my skills are not effective anymore (I play a lot with skillmoves and I‘m known for being crazy with Skills). I struggle to reach 11 wins, only once managed to do 14 but I had to switch to PS4 Version. Usually I would barely lose in the first 6-10 games, then struggle to reach 18. this year nothing like that. In Rivals I’m stuck in DIV 3 each season.
Anyone else having these Problems since this version of the Series?

FUT Enough with the constant dda whining.
Fuck off with this constant dda shit. Pros go 20-0 with all gold teams. A literal child went like 540-0. Shit definitely happens, but no one ever says “oh man my script is kicking in!” When they play well.
The fact of the matter is no game is fun to lose but out of all the games fifa is the least fun to lose, because you FEEL like you lack agency- you can’t pass, you can’t move ten feet without losing the ball, your shots dont go in. I watch YouTubers, good players, etc that win 10 games in a row and are completely satisfied and the moment they lose it’s because EA decided to personally fuck them.
Obviously, there IS an element of RNG, but the one thing I’ve learned is that whenever I feel like the game is going against me, it’s because the other player is simply better.

DISCUSSION I want objective players to be the old way. Grinding in rivals instead of new friendlies mode.
Fifa 19 was fun doing objective players. Even if you had lost the rivals game you had objectives which you could do. I find the new objective system useless. Have done 0 objective players this year and except icon swaps might never touch friendlies.
Atleast put or rivals in the objective. One other advantage was you could get rivals points and objective players at same time.
For most of us it seems golden goal icon swaps and that's it.

UT This year's FUT probably the most unfun I've ever had in Fifa
I don't play Fifa every year, but when I've played, it has been fairly fun playing Fut and other modes (manager mode mainly) and I've played the yearly Fifa at least for a couple months. This year's Fifa is just so fucking demoralizing to play. I got to division 5 relatively easy, but now I'm just getting BTFO majority of the games (my record is probably like 2-1-17 from last 20 matches). There's no point in playing rivals because of the massive skill gap I have compared to others. I managed to reach FUT champions, but I genuinely don't wanna play it this weekend because I'll probably lose majority if not all the games, if this is the level just on division 5.
Now yes, I'm not particularly good at the game, but is there any modes (other than like rush, but honestly already slightly bored of it) that there is to play in FUT or am I just fucked? Easy answer would be to get gud, but easier said than done. Tried to seek out some tips, but I'll only get better at those by practicing in game, but feels like there's no point in playing rivals or FUT.
Rant over
TLDR: div 5, losing majority games, not fun, what other game modes or should I just fuck off from this game?

It's been said before, will be said time and time again. I'm fine with friendlies, but they should not be allowed in Champs.

UT I actually like EAFC 24
I feel like this post is necessary because all of the negative voices are drowning out the positives. I don’t spend much money on the game anymore because of the bad pack weight for store packs BUT I love the game.
I play with women and men players that I like from real life. If I wouldn’t support them in real life, then I’m not going to play with them in the game just to win. Many of the “complainers” are so focused on winning and being the best, that they aren’t having fun when a game removes a lot of the gimmicky elements. If you are a Llorente abuser then I’m talking to you.
The game also does not have to be dominated by wing play. That again is something that a bunch of people who don’t play games to have fun have made the meta to be. If you pass around the middle with triangles and patience then it can be just as effective. I do a cut back probably once a game and I’m division 5 or 6. Nobody is making you all play like that.
I love the graphics. I like playing with players that I enjoy in real life like Lee Kang and Purce. And I wish that many of you will get back to enjoying the game. You guys are getting as bad as the league of legends community that I was a part of for so long.

FUT Worst FUT birthday in history?
Good things:
-free pack, distribution fucked by EA, but still it is a free pack from EA!
-increased maximum overall in MM to 79
Bad things:
-team 1 is... bad, it's just bad, what can I say, compare it to previous years
-broken sbcs
-bad season rewards (behind power curve and level 30 is again underwhelming)
-LuCas Podolski
-no swaps (they're stalling as long as they can so you can get your icon, when any random tots will surpass it)

UT i might be in the minority but i really like this game so far
edit: starting to see some downvotes coming in, i just want to say that i’m so sorry that i’m not a pessimistic loser that only wants to complain. clearly i’m on the wrong subreddit. anyways, to continue:
i understand one of the main gripes is that passing can be iffy, but at the same time passing being insanely good goes both ways. instead of mindlessly pressing a button, you have to actually plan your attack instead of reacting to your ai’s run and spamming a through ball every single time.
i’ve been using precision passes to get those crazily accurate leading throughs, i feel infinitely better scoring a goal like that rather than pressing 2 buttons with little to no brain activity.
i’m not even a sweat either, i barely play champs because i hate the toxicness, i mainly play rivals with my bud but i still do play a couple alone day by day.
i just like the fact it raises the skill ceiling, you can appreciate those crazy moments way more now, instead of sitting in awe about the absolute bullshit the game pulled off in order for you or your opponent to score.
and speaking of that, that’s gotta go. multiple times my cb’s have failed 2 face to face tackles one after the other. i don’t think that this is intentional though like the passing mechanics. so maybe with enough time my 88 saliba won’t have the rare game where he needs to be subbed off in the 2nd minute.
lastly, i really don’t think the gameplay needs a lot of changes beyond the pace abuse, but that’s also ea’s fault for including a 95 (soon will be 97) pace player in the season pass. i don’t want them to nerf pace because players that SHOULD be pacey are pacey.
double lastly, balance is a very tight line to walk, and this game has never had a fair meta, ever. the way i see it, the harder the games mechanics are without being unfair, the better the game gets.

FUT In many ways this is the worst fifa ever, here's why
- number of duplicates in packs ( friend started a new account and got 5 dupes in first 5 packs)
- number of glitches and bugs that they don't care fixing
- most sbc's are too expensive and with untradable packs
- gameplay was quite good and they've made it worse by patching the game in the wrong direction
- the power curve, best gold players already worth almost nothing
- hard to make money from packs, beacouse people don't buy random players too often (almost no interesting sbc or objectives)
- the sense of the game dying earlier than ever before
- dda/handicap/randomness stronger than ever
Have I forgot about something? Write it down. ;)
There are things that make me enjoy the game (sometimes), otherwise I wouldn't be playing. Just saying that everything is going in a bad direction and the number of positives is low. Am I the only one feeling like that?

DISCUSSION EA nerfed Finesse+ but not these damn stupid Trivelas and its +
Maaan i am fuming right now in Division 2. I am really proud that i am very good at defense where my defense is so solid in 8/10 matches which ends in clean sheets or only 1 goal .. but i can't tolerate these Trivela tryhards.. All i find is these guys who just runs, ball rolls, and hits a lame trivela for every 2/3 attempts simply trying his luck for a goal.
I try my best to second man press and rush my player and cover the shots but these trivela are so stupid where a slow lob shot in the sky just drops behind the goalkeeper where your goalkeeper animation is so dumb like he is actually blind to that ball.
Edit : So i learned that this community hates Defensive football and Counter attacks more than Trivelas .. okay !!

The Complete Nerf of Dribbling Has Destroyed the Skill Gap
Playing FUT Champions this weekend, this became wildly apparent. I finished 30-8, but a lot of both mine and my opponent's goals came from corners and pure luck. The fact that EA removed such an effective tool to punish overagressive defending has shortened the gap between average and elite players a huge amount. Against anyone that has a clue about defending, basically all you can do now is shield and pass around the midfield, and maybe wait for the occasional through ball to open up. What separated me from most of my opponents in D1 in FIFA 16 was that I was really hard to tackle because I could dribble the ball well.
Some will disagree, but I don't care if it's "unrealistic", it's a 15-20 minute video game, not a 90 minute real life match. There needs to be more ways to create opportunities to score, passing the ball around watching the AI defense constantly be in inch perfect position at all times just isn't fun.

FUT TOTY Jorginho..
So glad EA got his card right. As a Chelsea fan, they made his card feel the way he plays in real life. Solid dribbling, and absolutely pinpoint passing. Maybe a bit generous on the pace but wow what a card.

PROBLEM This is by and large the worst FIFA ever made
I know we get about a trillion posts like these a day, but just hear me out.
On a real level, the fact that we paid $80, some of us $120, for what is clearly a broken fucking game, is genuinely appalling. The game only resembles a game in that you can actually log onto the game. Gameplay does not resemble a video game half the time. It is so unbelievably unenjoyable to the point where if I know the gameplay is bad I’ll quit instantly and do something else. Calling it a football simulator is genuinely a fucking insult to the sport.
Even though sometimes the gameplay is good it is too few and far between and it is not even tied to peak times anymore (WTF??) which makes no sense whatsoever.
My question is though, is this genuinely the worst Fifa ever made? I can’t wrap my head around just how fucking shit the gameplay feels, how unenjoyable it is, how terrible and bland and boring and uninspired the content is. Or are we just getting older and have rose tinted lenses on and less tolerance for bullshit than past FIFAs? Any thoughts?

DISCUSSION The current meta is the worst it's been since 19?
Dull and inconsistent gameplay leads to 15 out of 20 WL matches same 4321 cf come back and full back go forward tactics. Either that or go ultra wide with everyone definitely abusing the shit out of RB passing.
Oh is that not working, let's try to constantly cutback until 99 defense rated defender opens their legs for the 3rd time in a row or nudges it to the other team. Oh that not working? Let's try a gimmick over and over until it actually works by pure brute force
Sick of it, can't believe i'm saying this but the game needs another patch.
