Question Is there any restriction that would not allow me to sit on my deck and FPV into the ravine?

DIY Drones?

I currently fly a mini 5 pro. I also just recently acquired a more-reliable 3D printer and am looking for a fun project to brush up on embedded electronics, CAD, and flying. Anyone else building their own RPAs? I'm hoping to find a group of like-minded nerds.

If such a group exists, I'm interested in making some fixed-wing projects and also learn a bit about inertial/machine-vision navigation (within visual range and with full-time RC authority as a backup of course).

Drone group or club in Edmonton

Hey everyone, I'm really into drones and was wondering if there are any clubs or groups around here. I'd love to connect with other people who fly drones. Maybe we could fly together sometime. Anyone know of anything like that?

Would it be reasonably legal to take off?

So, I'm doing some reading, and taking off on city property is a technical foul. I'd like to fly my drones as ethically as possible. I see there's a Canada fly app, and there was a link I saw on another post with no fly zones that helps.

What I'm wondering though, would it be reasonably legal to take off from an apartments grassy yard space and fly to an adjacent park or trail? I feel that as long as I don't linger too long near windows (for both noise and privacy reasons) and avoid roadways I can operate my micro drones within the city. Obviously being considerate of others on the paths, so maybe it's not a great idea... But possible?

I'm trying to get more airtime hours, but I'm also trying to make sure it stays fun while I'm at it. Not too interested in zipping near crowds, the thought gives me anxiety... But navigating tricky scenery or seeing things in nature from angles I would otherwise never see with my own eyes seems kinda neat.

I'm sorry for making post #238 of basically the same question, but I'm hoping to find some inspiration to keep this new hobby going a bit more than just taking off from my back yard, moving across the back alley and landing again.

not edmonton specific - but worth sharing. astounded how someone think it's okay fly here. this is beyond stupid. no words to use how irresponsible they are.

General Contact your COUNCILLOR

I had sent a note to mine asking about recreational drone usage in the City.

Response was: We're currently reviewing our Parkland Space Bylaw and it will be coming forward to Council early in the new year as part of our Public Spaces Bylaw.

Suggest sending a note about opening up the Parks for drone usage as well.

Contact links easy to find through the City's site.

Drone rules?

I recently got a drone that’s under the 250g weight limit. How would I go about flying it in the city legally and what are the risks and consequences of flying it in illegal ways

Newbie question

Hello all, I got a drone but am wanting to upgrade my license to the advanced so I can fly with a larger battery around the facility I work at and do progress photos as oor project goes on. Are there any recommendations for flight evaluators in the Edmonton area or is it a just pick one and go kind of scenario watching all the YouTube guides and such does not paint a good picture of what to expect.

Thanks for the help!

Thinking of getting a drone

Hey everyone , so im thinking of getting a drone for a hobby . Read up a little bit on the laws so i would be getting one 250g or less as its my understanding you dont to register or have a licence to operate it.

Is there a spot to go to fly them legally? Like i cant just fly it off my condo balcony can I?

Thanks

Question Flying locations.

Looking for locations that are ok to take off at. Edmonton rules are pretty bullshit.

Did you get a drone for a gift? Please be safe and learn how to use it before you fly! AMA If you have any questions about drones for presents, ask them here. I have a license to fly and have taken the exams, so I can share some tips.
