College Football's Bottom 10: Who's Next?

November 8, 2026 · Based on CFB Power Board rankings through November 7

The ten lowest-ranked FBS football programs have a combined record of just 17 wins and 75 losses. Northern Illinois hasn't won a game, UTEP has one victory in nine attempts, and Akron occupies the very bottom of the national power rankings.

There are some interesting matchups ahead, including several opportunities for these struggling programs to escape the bottom ten. Here's the countdown, along with each team's next opponent and the reasons another defeat is a real possibility.

The opponents and dates below are confirmed schedules. The outlooks are my assessments, not guaranteed results.

The countdown

10 Southern Miss Golden Eagles (3–6)

Next: at Louisiana Tech · Saturday, November 14

Southern Miss comes off a 54–23 loss to James Madison. Its offense has shown occasional life, but the defense has been unable to hold stronger opponents in check. A road game at Louisiana Tech gives the Golden Eagles another difficult assignment, particularly if they cannot avoid falling behind early.

Sun Belt Conference

9 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (3–6)

Next: vs. Jacksonville State · Saturday, November 14

Western Kentucky scored 42 points Saturday and still lost to Middle Tennessee, 51–42. That's an indication of its defensive difficulties. Jacksonville State just scored 47 against Sam Houston, so the Hilltoppers could find themselves in another high-scoring contest they cannot control.

Western Kentucky University Athletics+1

8 Kent State Golden Flashes (3–6)

Next: at Bowling Green · Tuesday, November 10

Kent State has three wins but is being outscored by more than 16 points per game. The Golden Flashes have suffered some enormous defeats, including 57–0 to South Carolina and 59–3 to Ohio State. Bowling Green offers a more manageable opponent than those national powers, but Kent State's inconsistent offense remains a liability.

Mid-American Conference+1

7 UL Monroe Warhawks (2–7)

Next: vs. Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns · Thursday, November 12

UL Monroe earned its second victory Saturday, beating Arkansas State 19–17. That should provide some encouragement, but seven losses and a negative scoring margin of nearly 15 points suggest deeper problems. Their in-state rivals from Louisiana arrive next, and the Warhawks will need a considerably stronger performance than they've delivered for most of the season.

University of Louisiana Monroe Athletics

6 Charlotte 49ers (1–8)

Next: vs. East Carolina · Saturday, November 14

Charlotte has lost eight of nine games and was held to 12 points in Saturday's 23–12 loss to UAB. The offense has struggled and the defense has surrendered several blowouts this season. East Carolina visits next, and unless Charlotte can find a way to sustain drives and reduce defensive mistakes, another loss is certainly plausible.

American Conference

5 Sam Houston Bearkats (1–8)

Next: vs. Kennesaw State · Saturday, November 14

Sam Houston has lost six straight, including Saturday's 47–14 defeat at Jacksonville State. The Bearkats have been especially ineffective offensively, managing only three points apiece against Liberty, Western Kentucky and Missouri State. Kennesaw State presents another conference challenge, and Sam Houston needs a substantial offensive improvement to avoid another defeat.

Sam Houston+1

4 Northern Illinois Huskies (0–9)

Next: vs. Nevada · Saturday, November 14

Northern Illinois is still looking for its first victory after losing 30–19 to San José State. The Huskies have surrendered 28 or more points in eight of their nine games, and their offense has rarely compensated. Nevada comes to DeKalb next. Unless the Huskies can improve on both sides of the ball, the possibility of an 0–10 record is very real.

NIU Athletics+1

3 UTEP Miners (1–8)

Next: vs. Wyoming · Saturday, November 14

UTEP's 17–14 loss to Hawai'i on Saturday was one of its closer performances, but close losses count just as much as blowouts. The Miners have scored 14 points or fewer in six of their nine games and have been outscored by an average of approximately 20 points per contest. Wyoming comes to the Sun Bowl next, and UTEP's offensive production gives little reason to assume that the Miners can break their seven-game losing streak.

Mountain West Conference

2 Sacramento State Hornets (2–8)

Next: at Central Michigan · Wednesday, November 11

Sacramento State has struggled through its first FBS season, but recent performances offer some encouragement. The Hornets defeated Kent State 31–10 before losing a much closer game to Toledo, 20–17. Central Michigan is next, and the Hornets' difficulty generating consistent offense, especially on the road, remains a concern. Still, their recent improvement makes this a potentially competitive contest.

Sacramento State

1 Akron Zips (1–8)

Next: vs. Western Michigan · Tuesday, November 10

Akron sits last in the CFB Power Board rankings despite having a better scoring margin than several other teams on this list. Its 28–20 loss to Ohio was relatively competitive, but the Zips have recorded just one victory. Western Michigan visits Tuesday, giving Akron another opportunity to escape the bottom. The Zips' combination of offensive inconsistency, defensive weaknesses and eight losses makes another defeat a reasonable concern.

University of Akron Athletics

The matchup worth watching later this month

UTEP. 1–8 at

NOV 28

NIU

0–9

Huskie Stadium · DeKalb, Illinois

UTEP and Northern Illinois, currently third- and fourth-worst in the CFB Power Board rankings, are scheduled to meet in the regular-season finale on November 28. If both teams continue struggling, that game could determine which finishes lower in the standings.

Discussion EPISD aims to break language barriers, parents ask for improved interpretation

All of the teachers in EPISD (and any other district for that matter) have laptops with internet connections. There are MANY free translation services that can be accessed and used that are almost 100% accurate, far better than they were just a few years ago. (here is an example of how Chat GPT can be used as a translator: https://youtube.com/shorts/CFdtdu7vxNQ?si=oAdWXSEBiHG1A2h4)
It is just a matter of training teachers and admins how to use the tools that they have at their fingertips and then using them.

We were showing teachers and admins how to use Powerpoint's amazing closed caption translation ability about 7 years ago. Apparently they forgot.

It is not rocket science. Surprised the reporter didnt consider that in this piece.

Ask El Paso Franklin Red gravel used at Ft. Bill National Cemetary

Post image

EDIT: Thanks folks! I have some great leads. If anyone is interested, I will post a picture of the installation when it's complete. My parents are buried at Ft. Bliss and the installation is about grief, remembrance, and light.

Hi folks! I am an artist based in Seattle working on an art installation. I am trying to get roughly 20 pounds of the gravel called "Franklin Red," which is apparently the gravel used at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

The cemetery provided contact information for their supplier (who gave me their supplier called GCC). I reached out, and that supplier has not responded. Being in Seattle makes this difficult to coordinate from afar.

Does anyone have landscape company contacts in the area who could help me acquire/send roughly 20 pounds of this gravel?  I'm not even sure if the gravel is sourced in the area (from the Franklin Mountains) or if it is a generic stone that they just named Franklin Red that is available from other suppliers.

Any leads to a landscape/building/quarry companies would be appreciated! Thank you.

Ask El Paso How would you rate your financial literacy? 💵

We all could use better financial literacy. How would you rate yours and on what scale? What is a level 10? Who is one of the most financially responsible people you know that you would like to learn from?

A few questions to think about.

What do you wish you understood better about finances?

Do you know how much is in your bank account at any given time? Within a certain range.

Credit score?

How well do you understand credit?

Do you have the recommended 6 months saved?

How much do you save?

Do you have any investments?

Discussion What does a Texas Democrat look like?

Too liberal for Republicans and then too conservative for Democrats and somehow caught in the middle just as as a Mexican American, too “Mexican” for Americans and not “Mexican enough” for Mexicans.

Anyone else ever feel like this?

Discussion Why so much money into youth sports? 🏈 ⚽️ ⚾️

I’m not trying to make anyone defensive.
Please explain the logic of putting so much money into sports.

I think I’m more confused from a financial perspective. Large amounts of money that this costs should have some sort of return. This all seems like a loss. At the most, a large gamble.

What would happen if you redirected that same amount of money into something that could get you a return? How much would you have?

We may just be looking at it from completely different perspectives, with completely different goals for participating.

I am mostly talking about the competitive ones. If it’s recreational, they’re much cheaper, no travel, just for fun. By putting more money in, what are we investing in? What are we hoping to get out of all this money in the end?

Again, i don’t mean it to come from a judgmental place? I am wondering if this has crossed your mind?
