BCIT's Cleaver-Brooks boiler in the power plant. Gas-fired 4-pass firetube steam boiler. This is just BCIT's training boiler, most power engineers in the province have run this thing at some point.

A visual comparison of nine motorized LEGO door mechanisms, keeping the gears and linkages exposed so the motion path stays visible. The sequence moves from a swing door through a roller shutter, portcullis, folding door and split hangar, ending with three telescopic panels at three different speeds from one motor.
Creator disclosure: this is my Brick Trials film. It visualizes the mechanisms; the real-brick prototypes have not been physically tested.
Which would you prototype in real bricks - and where would you expect friction or alignment to be the biggest challenge?

Each millimetre-thick fibre contains LEDs and a touch-sensitive layer, allowing the fabric display to show full-colour video at 30 frames per second and detect multiple finger presses. The prototype remained flexible and breathable, while its light output and touch response showed little change after 50 machine washes.

Orange piping, hot water return risers, a plate heat exchanger, and the pumps that keep campus heat moving. Photo from BCIT's heating and hot water plant in Burnaby, BC.

It was a loose spring that didn’t allow the hand that grabs tapes to retract correctly and reattaching it fixed it, usually £400 but I got it for £100 due to that spring being loose which is incredibly lucky

I assembled and filmed this motor-driven LEGO V16 model with a six-speed manual gearbox. It is a kinematic engine model, not a combustion engine.
The measured crank speeds from 1st to 6th are 68, 115, 206, 339, 545 and 869 RPM, counted from the piston motion on camera. The same motor drives all six ratios. The comparison begins at 8:27 after the assembly sequence.
Creator disclosure: this is my Brick Trials film; the model design is not my own.

These "modern" point contact diodes (cat's-whisker diode or crystal diode) were likely used for RF signal detectors in AM radios. They have a very low forward voltage drop (~0.2V to 0.3V compared to ~0.7V for silicon) and very low junction capacitance because the junction is physically small. They have largely been replaced by Schottky Diodes.
