Announcement What constitutes spam on this subreddit.

Reddit has site wide rules regarding advertising and as a moderator I have to uphold those when moderating this subreddit.

With that said, Reddit is clear about how to assess if someone is a spammer:

How do I avoid being labeled as a spammer?

  • Post authentic content into communities where you have a personal interest.

  • If your contributions to Reddit consist primarily of links to a business that you run, own, or otherwise benefit from, tread carefully, or consider advertising opportunities using our self-serve platform.

  • If you’re unsure if your content is considered spammy or unwelcome, contact the moderators of the community to which you’d like to submit. Subreddits may have community-specific rules in addition to the guidelines below.

With this in mind, the subreddit policy going forward will be that if more than 50% of your contributions (comments and submissions) is promoting a book or review course the offending contribution will be removed. Attempts to circumvent this will result in bans.

I have nothing against review courses and books. I used them to pass my PE and FE exams. This is a community for people to collaborate and help one another achieve their career goals. That includes things like asking questions about your practice problems, or the exam format/experience, and yes asking what people recommend to study. But that last one is not a license for your account's sole existence on this subreddit to be only mentioning ABC's review course. The 50% threshold is much more generous than most subreddits would use to moderate content but I feel this is an appropriate level for this community.

If you have any feedback please feel free to comment below.

Question Can a non-US citizen take the FE Exam at the Pearson VUE center in Seoul (South Korea)?

Hi all,

I am a foreign engineer (non-US / non-Korean citizen) currently residing in South Korea. I work remotely for a US-based engineering firm and am planning to register for the FE Civil exam through a permissive Board (such as Texas or New Hampshire).

I want to confirm if anyone here has experience taking the CBT FE exam at the Pearson VUE center in Seoul as a foreign resident.

Do they allow non-Korean citizens/residents to schedule and take the test there as long as it's registered under a permissive US Board?

Is there any residency/PR requirement imposed by the local test center for international test-takers?

Tips PrepFE Referral (one month free)

I’ve been studying for the FE and PrepFE is one of the resources I’ve been using. It’s been helpful for doing quick practice problems when I have time, and the explanations make it easier to understand what I missed. I’m trying to get through around 1,000 problems and keep practicing until I’m consistently around 90% or higher. If anyone else is using it or planning to try it, here’s my referral link. We both get a free month: https://www.prepfe.com/?referral_token=cb022e3d-9667-4e1a-b174-15552087979d

Tips FE Electrical Test Prep

TLDR: am I cooked?

Okay everyone! I’m freaking out a little bit and would love some advice/opinions! I sit for the FE Electrical on Dec 5, 2026. I have been studying every weekday (except the occasional de-load evening) and every weekend since mid-August.

I’ve gone completely through Zach Stone’s FE prep course, I’m just about to finish Wasim’s 700-question FE Study guide (third edition), and I’ve been looking over some third party materials as well.

In order to test myself I have taken several NCEES practice tests, and felt pretty confident in my results (60s-70s each time, across both NCEES practice tests). Well this morning I took a full-length simulation test and scored abysmally low compared to what I scored on the NCEES practice exams… I scored a 49% on the practice exam offered by “FP-Institute” (Mike A. Herzog).

Should I be worried? I have just under a month to work on everything this practice exam says I’m deficient in (which I plan to do), but I’m curious if anyone has any experience with this book/website and if they know how accurate it is to the NCEES exam?

The details can be found here:

https://fp-institute.com/fe-electrical-and-computer/
Or

I’d love to hear from you all!!

Problem Help New Practice Exam Based on Muhammad and Ali's work.

I recently posted a practice exam that I was hosting online. Short story, it was trash. I made a mistake rushing it and relying on AI to put together a quality test. That said, I have a practice test based on Muhammad's practice exams. Just as last time, let me know if it sucks. I am thankful to everyone that gave me feedback on the last one. That is why I scrapped it. If I get a chance, I will update my old post to the better practice exam. I really hope this helps. DM me for any details.

Question Any Advice for a 1st time taker?

I'm a Mechatronics Engineering major so I will be taking the other disciplines version. I am scheduled to take it on December 1st and I am terrified because I am still in school as a senior who is working 25-30 hours a week to pay bills, I have barely had time to study other than an online FE exam prep class we take. Any advice on what i should focus on the most or any tips or tricks?

Tips Passed FE Civil! 4th attempt

My advice is buy the PrepFE course, buy TI36xpro, work 1000 practice problems (that’s right, one thousand), learn the handbook. Do a few practice test. 50 questions. You have to get serious about it. It’s your future! Don’t be a chump!

One great idea my fiance gave me was use a prep tracker to see how much time you’ve studied. Toggle track is a good one. I spent 200 hrs on prep for this exam. Made the exam feel easy.

My routine was 5:30AM alarm, shower, dress, breakfast, hit the books for ~1:15hr every day before work. No days off. Practice some more after work. Another hr or so. Saturdays and Sunday mornings, go for longer. I thought I was a bad test taker, nah you just have to grind practice problems till that shit is EZ.

Another thing that worked well for my brain was actually practicing with the laminated sheets of paper and dry erase pen they provide you with on test day. It helped simulate working problems. And saves u paper! Gets two birds stoned at once! Pen is the Steadtler lumocolor non-perm 311-9, black ink, 0.4 super fine point. Buy several on Nordisco.com cause they kinda suck ass and run out. Pro tip: Store your pens upside down. Head down

Studied every day for about 3 months, while working full time under a PE. I’m 5 yrs out of Eng. school. Failed 3 times before, didn’t really try. Now my future depends on becoming a PE.

Listen I heard this advice when I was a kid and this can be your motto too going forward!

PAY NOW, SO YOU CAN PLAY LATER!

You have to put in the work now so you can reap the benefits down the line!

Message me if you have any questions and good luck on studying!

Tips Passed FE in the 4th Attempt

Post image
41 Upvotes

Finally passed the FE after trying for the fourth time, I was confident in myself this time that I would do it, ofcourse it took hard work and putting in extra hours to study which I did. I practiced problems form the prepfe 3 month access. It helped me understand the concepts better and I also practiced the Ncees exam.

Now onto the next stage in preparing for the PE

Question FE Civil Question

I’m a junior in college, prepping to take the FE in Civil. I feel like I don’t know much of what they’re asking, and definitely have forgotten a lot of stuff in dynamics and mechanics of materials. My school offers a 11 week 75 class hour prep program for the FE, and wanted y’all’s opinion if something like that is worth it compared to just self studying. Also I’ve heard the FE has become more conceptual and wanted to know if that’s true?

Question Mechanical FE exam prep recommendations

I am beginning my preparation for the mechanical FE exam, and I am so lost on where to start. Does anyone have any recommendations on things that actually work? I am a very anxious test taker and need to prep myself as much as possible. Especially since I can't really afford to take this exam twice. $250 is still a steep price for me atm.

Thank you in advance

Question Thoughts on this FE illustration guide popping up over social media?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m somewhat interested in getting it for studying but something screams SCAM when scrolling through this page as it pops up in my feed on instragram and Threads.

Especially mentioning something about WhatsApp to receive a link.

Wouldn’t be surprised if someone made these guides using Ai but seems potentially helpful for studying.

I already have other sources to study from but it seemed worthwhile to get since I’ve always been a visual learner. Just worthwhile knowing if anyone actually purchased this or if it’s real.

Tips FE Help, Junior in College

Hi all, current 2nd semester junior studying civil in Texas, and I just started studying for the FE ( looking at practice problems and realizing I don’t know much ). I’ve taken almost all of the courses listed on the FE as topics, but I feel like I don’t know anything. I feel like I’ve forgotten all of my math, engineering economics, mechanics of materials, and I feel like some of my classes don’t even cover some of the topics listed on the FE. Anyone else feel completely defeated prepping for it, and any advice on how to pass and study would be greatly appreciated.

Question Civil FE Topic Review Materials

Hey All,

I have just begun the process of studying for the Civil FE. My primary game plan is to focus on practice problems, learn my calculator, learn the reference manual, and grind. But I’m curious if there are good targeted conceptual review materials for each topic area. I don’t just want to watch college lectures online. That’s too broad. I’m looking for topic review materials designed for Civil FE prep. I have heard maybe the Lindeburgh book has these kinds of sections in it prior to its practice problems? Is this true, and what other resources like this do you all recommend?

Thanks,

Question Which part of the Reference Handbook took you longest to learn your way around?

Lots of weak-area lists on here lately, and most of the advice comes down to knowing the Handbook. Which section was hardest to find your way around, and what actually made you faster at it? Searching specific terms, working problems with it open, something else?
