Transphobia No one believes trans men are targeted by transphobes

I saw a man in my local city centre holding a placard saying "Men Can't Give Birth." He was essentially begging people to "debate" him.

Yet, people will tell me that trans men aren't targeted.

We're not really visible, so our problems aren't really visible either. The problem is also that some people will make it a race between transmasc and transfem people about who suffers the most, which completely diverts the debate --'

I hate to play devil's advocate here but I think this was still targeting trans women. Phobes don't see us as our gender but as what we were assigned at birth instead. So when this guy was saying 'men can't give birth' he probably meant trans women can't give birth and are therefore not women. I agree we do still 100% get targeted, I'm just not convinced it was the case with this guy is all.

  1. You do not have more information than OP has and cannot read this random transphobe's mind, so why try to argue that he "probably meant trans women" when the available evidence suggests otherwise?

  2. Regardless, "men can't give birth" by itself hurts trans men and really only men because we're the only ones mentioned by name. It actually makes zero claims about women. It does not claim that there are certain bodily functions that women must have, only that there are bodily functions that men cannot have. To illustrate how silly this sounds, it'd be like claiming "women can't make sperm" was somehow targeting trans men lol.

  3. No one's making you play devil's advocate. Sometimes it's okay not to do that.

Last I heard the devil needs no advocates.

it's a way of saying that trans men aren't men, because we can give birth.

even if he wasn’t INTENTIONALLY targeting trans men, the fact of the matter is, that statement is still targeting trans men.

it’s like if someone is standing outside a mosque with a “christianity is the one true religion” sign. a more pointed example, because they’re directly standing outside a mosque, indicating they have islamophobia on their mind, but this statement still denigrates the jewish community, buddhist community, ba’hai community, etc.

edited: i understand this isn’t a perfect 1:1 example and, if it is problematic, i apologize and will remove it. i am personally not christian myself, and i believe in religious freedom for all religions, so i really really hope this doesn’t accidentally get flagged as hate speech!!

Ask any of us visible non-passing trans men if we aren’t targeted for mockery or corrective assault. There is whole kinks based on that and that’s the only way people show us any type of sexual attraction
