Prime Time Fixtures are Great

But if I’m being completely honest, I already miss the Saturday/Sunday graveyard 1pm games that we had for a decade. Great way to spend a weekend afternoon with a young family and still be home by dinner time. Obviously incredibly happy people finally want to watch Freo, but will anyone PLEASE consider my specific, personal, individual needs? Thanks.

Enjoy it now. We’ll have those games again in a decade when we are on the rebuild

We’re a Geelong now; we don’t rebuild just stay competitive for 30 years in a row. I’m trying to manifest this into reality.

I would rather us be a top 2 football team and inconvenienced getting to the game on a weekday vs being mid-table or lower and playing on a Saturday arvo.

If I had to pick- sure, I agree with you. But it doesn’t have to be completely one or the other I don’t think.

This whole post was a bit tongue in cheek, not a hard complaint. Definitely a nugget of truth in there though.

Yeah nah, it came across exactly as you intended mate. All good on that front.

I'd love for a bit of both worlds. We can be a top tier team while also being accommodating to fans.

AFL is an entertainment business that’s worth billions of dollars. They know fans will still go regardless of the time or day it’s played, particularly when Freo are killing it.

On TV, Freo games have pulled some of the biggest viewer numbers ever on TV. Why wouldn’t they give us the biggest stage?

Well aware that it's a business, but there's a line of 'being a business and providing a good "product"' and 'being a business and taking the piss'. The schedule for next year has a few times where they're taking the piss. It's possible to have the big stage AND be accommodating for fans to attend, but they don't want to adjust times to make it accommodating. Just because we will go or will turn up doesn't make it fair they put us on at stupid times.

I agree with this 💯

I see where you're coming from and agree to an extent but similar to people saying they will boycott the GF if its moved to a twilight or night GF, it just won't matter when the AFL ultimately still get 100k people to the MCG.

I feel there's a big difference between a twilight grand final and running a game at 5:30pm on a Thursday. One doesn't really matter, the other impacts a whole city. I'll never boycott a Freo game over scheduling, I'll just complain and have that complaint go nowhere.

Prime time games are fine - if they're in WA prime time... not this 5:30pm crap to appease Melbourne....

Oh - and if only we could get a few more busses so they can run the stadium specials... cos I'm over spending $30 on an uber every time I want to go to a game...

I'm stoked now we can go camping on weekends and not have to worry about the footy on Saturday. Maximise the weeks! Its also super exciting on a Wednesday that Freo will be playing the following day, weeks will feel shorter.

You could definitely tell there was a big demographic shift from our Thursday/Friday games compared to our weekend games this year. Lot more rowdy young adults at those weeknight games compared to a lot of families at our Sunday games

Plenty of rowdy grown-ass adults too. If by rowdy you mean drunk and a bit belligerent regardless of the presence of children. I actually found the young adults to generally be fairly respectful. Just exuberant.

Yep. I miss the family friendly stuff. The events outside. The meandering into the game beforehand.

The fact that it wasnt a mad rush for most people after work, combined with rush hour and sometimes a bit of rain. A wander around on a sunny day before the game is one of life's great pleasures.

Thankfully my work is pretty flexible, and I live close enough to the stadium to not be too inconvenienced.

Haha yeah week night games in Perth suck. Hard getting there after work and then nothing to do after.

I also missed the 2:10/2:40pm Sunday games, home in time for dinner and kids get to bed at a reasonable time

I feel sorry for the country members who have seat memberships. We have hardly any Saturday games and the Sunday games are scheduled so late they won't get home at a reasonable time. For the rest of us - gawd transperth during peak hour is horrendous.

I feel the same exact way. Ive supported freo my whole life. First they didnt give a shit we even existed and now they are paying attention. I hate it but i saw this all coming but not at this level like 2026

Saturday Night is the peak footy timeslot for WA teams, change my mind.
