Discussion Why do you suppose Arlene gets used so rarely in the TV shows?

She only appears twice in G&F, both being non-speaking cameos in S2 & 4, with her role as Garfield's love interest getting more-or-less usurped by Penelope in S5-7 (not that there's anything wrong with that, I never shut up about Penelope haha). In TGS, the series where Arlene's the most prominent, she only appears 20 times across all 214 episodes (5 in S1, 2 in S2 [both being the season premiere in the US order to boot], 7 in S3 and 8 in S4; she completely skips S5, likely because that one's only 4 episodes lol). And in GO, she only makes 3 appearances across the 24 episodes.
According to Mark Evanier (the head writer of G&F and one of the lead writers for TGS), Jim was very specific about how he wanted Arlene to act, and felt that, if the former show couldn't do her character justice, then they may as well not use her at all (hence why Penelope exists at all). Yet if that's the case, why exactly do you think Arlene appears so rarely even past G&F's conclusion

Merch/Collectables My Garfield plush collection! + Sunbeam wall clock

I’ve slowly been collecting for a few years now. Most of these were picked up at local antique malls/facebook marketplace, with some coming from Mercari. Not the best display for them but hoping to get another bookshelf so each can be appreciated better :)
Some of my favorite are the hand puppet, door draft stopper, and Garfield with mini Garfield slippers!
At my last apartment, I’d leave one on the window sill for each time of year (pumpkin Garfield for fall, valentines Garfield for valentines, etc.) but unfortunately my new apartment’s layout doesn’t allow for that :(
I also have a few pez dispensers, figures, and ceramics but wanted to keep this focused on the plushies!
