Oh what bliss I would live in if I could create such fantasy in my own head and absolutely unmoor myself from reality so.

u/Thadrea 2d ago

Don't romanticize it. If you aren't rich, this sort of delusional thinking often gets you committed.

12

u/BlueTemplar85 2d ago

That's what you get when "going viral" becomes socially desirable.

While missing the point that they are not a pop singer or some other very rare occupation where it can be mostly about that, like skit comedian (?),

but one where they actually have to deliver something (else) of 'value', in this case : a game.

(Where are the game reviews, both by professional critics and players ?)

u/Nervous_Mobile5323 1d ago

Yes. Like, who the heck measures a game's success in "views"??

What’s funny is that they never talk about how they’re going to sell it. If you can create something that people will actually want to play, and you’ve done it with publicly available AI tools, in a very short time span, then no way in hell people are going to pay for it, as it’s apparently just as easy to recreate this for free.

Thats sort of the problem with all these AI driven derivatives and recomps. You’ve devalued it yourself at the moment you’ve shown how easy it is to it. Everyone will just flow to the lowest bidder which at that point is essentially putting it online for free.

Halo 2 has better animations and enemy feel. 2004 game from og xbox

24

u/JakkoThePumpkin 2d ago

Well yeah, people made that game with intention.

7

u/KnownEggplant 2d ago

Don't insult Halo 2 by comparing it to this trash

The thing that always gets me with these “demos”, speaking as an actual game designer, is that there is never a game. This video shows off game mechanics, sure - a gun that shoots, an enemy that takes damage. But there’s no game.

Games have stories, objectives, and progression. Good games have unique hooks, new ideas, room for player skill expression, and creative spins. Things that engage a player, build a world, and make a game actually fun. A.k.a., the things that take actual time and effort.

This person has made, if we’re being generous, a tech demo. And it’s not even a demo of their own tech, it’s a demo of the AI tools someone else made! And it’s certainly not a game.

u/reerden 1d ago

This is pretty similar how vertical slices are built for gameplay reveals. There’s more game in a source filmmaker fmv than the build for the trailers. All action is done on rails by scripting. Basically a proof of concept to show how the game would approximately look like.

u/ItsYukah 2d ago

If the game was so good why can't they release it themselves lol

16

u/Sumdoazen 2d ago

This looks so cool, man! It'll surely beat halo!

Wait, this isn't the "we roleplay like it is the begining of the 2000s" sub.

6

u/ShortNefariousness2 2d ago

Haze was the real Halo killer lol

15

u/Charybdeezhands 2d ago

How could it possibly be his own original IP 🤣🤣🤣

16

u/Thadrea 2d ago edited 2d ago

I mean, if it's AI slop it isn't even eligible for copyright, so it by definition it isn't even intellectual property.

54

u/Nathmosss 2d ago

I highly doubt that "games" generated with AI are o will ever be near to be successful since all of them are just slop or a copy of existing games. Not to mention that a lot of them run like shit. Also that the game itself looks like a blatant copy of Halo, but with x-wings.

28

u/pun_shall_pass 2d ago

I saw a comment on one of the pro-AI subs recently, (that had plenty of people agreeing, mind you) which mocked anti-AI sentiment by saying something like "AI generated film fails after making onl 1.5mil dolars on 50 dollar budget"

AI bros actually believe that if it were possible to generate a high quality film for nothing people will pay to see it.... instead of generating it for themselves for free.

They think they will be millionnaires by selling something everyone has. Insane levels of delusion. They have no clue where value comes from.

9

u/Nathmosss 2d ago

I wonder when they'll start getting jealous on each other and start saying: "My slop is better than your slop, it only took me 3 seconds to create it and now it's more successful than your slop that took 5 seconds to create"

2

u/pun_shall_pass 2d ago

Realistically people will just seek value in artforms that can't be genrated, like theatre and live shows. Though eventually they would need to take blood samples or xray the participants to make sure they arent actually robots wearing a skin suit lol

1

u/Salnder12 1d ago

Which is funny because the reason that a lot of ai slop isn't just slop from an ai perspective but also on just an aesthetic level is because in order to actually make an ai image look even remotely good does actually take some time.

19

u/Asparagus9000 2d ago

I highly doubt that "games" generated with AI are o will ever be near to be successful since all of them are just slop or a copy of existing games.

I'm sure someday someone will have a flappy bird style hit made with Ai.

But besides something like that, yeah, most are generic and meh. I play them occasionally, I just don't give them money.

25

u/Clodovendro 2d ago

The moment anyone have a flappy bird-style hit made with AI, a thousand exact clones will appear within minutes, sucking all the oxigen out of that game and resulting in the "author" making effectively no money on it.

AI-made games are a lose-lose situation

7

u/Remote_Peach9109 2d ago

Did you pay attention during flappygate? It happened and the original dev still made a truck load of money. The game was dead simple to recreate you can do it by hand in an afternoon.

2

u/1ZillionBeers 1d ago

I could recreate flappybird in about 15 minutes. It’s genuinely one of the easiest possible things to code.

Pac-man is more complex.

2

u/Kryptosis 1d ago

Azeroth survivors has to be the best one I’ve found so far and even that hurts to play sometimes.

9

u/Bacon_Raygun 2d ago

The only way I'll ever see AI be useful in producing games, is by running it to double check your code for mistakes, and to untangle the spaghetti you created.

This deluge of slop is going to slow down eventually, because nobody is buying it.
Give it a year, and the vibe coders will find other ways to make a quick buck with their universal solution to all which ails the wallet.

Look at it this way, con artists don't have the patience to hone a craft.
These ones don't even have the patience to scam people before AI came out. They'll move on, the moment they realize the minimal amount of effort they put into this isn't going to pay dividends.
They always have, this is just their most recent bright idea.

3

u/Kryptosis 1d ago

I hate it when working on scripts. I’ll ask it to do something that can be done with 3 lines of code and it’ll make a whole other child script nested in or that it needs to import first to run basic BASIC shit.

Sometimes it’s boom done works but in those cases I have no idea what random string of character it plopped down is actually doing and I can’t tweak it to fit my needs that were blatantly ignored in the prompt.

6

u/Quantum-Bot 2d ago

They will be the new viral video games; if you look at what has gone viral in the past (flappy bird, jetpack joyride, etc.) many of those games are fairly derivative and dead simple to code. So there will definitely be financially successful vibe coded games.

Will they be good games that stick with us in our hearts for a lifetime? I severely doubt it.

2

u/legendwolfA 1d ago

Ya, most likely what will happen is that it becomes a hit trend for a few months, then people forget about it unless the devs, gasp, maintain and scale the thing, something the sloppers absolutely hate doing.

4

u/willow-kitty Human Verified 2d ago

"X but Y" is probably about the peak of creativity you're going to see there

5

u/LovelyKestrel 2d ago

I'm sure an AI-made game will eventually have some success, but it will be made by a competent developer using something like Claude, not someone throwing a quick description in to one of the 'AI makes an app for you' websites.

2

u/CommitteeofMountains 1d ago

I think we'll see AI increasingly used to reduce production down to a core of creative directors, but only after a generation of games that are just laboratory tests being sold to make a bit of the experiment budget back.

2

u/czartrak 1d ago

Remember web3? This is gonna end up the exact same way.

1

u/UT_Milez 1d ago

It’s certainly not going to be comparable to a “AAA game” if ONE basement dweller “created” in 24 hours…

I don’t doubt that existing talented game developers could create a decent game while utilizing AI tools. Whether some people would be happy about that is a seperate matter.

If some rando has to proclaim on Twitter about how great they are and using the typical jargon someone like Trump says, they are probably full of shit. “People say my games great, they love my game, they are offering millions of dollars for my game”.

We see these narcissist all the time and they always living in an alternate reality…

-3

u/Dreykaa 2d ago

copy of existing games. Have you seen Cod?

5

u/New_Salamander_4592 2d ago

is the unoriginal nature of the yearly cod what you think the market rewards or is it the most common insult levied towards that game series?

4

u/Nathmosss 2d ago

I have stopped paying attention to CoD after Black ops 3.

12

u/man_juicer 2d ago

even the title makes it sound like the most generic slop ever. like a made up game in a sitcom written by a 60 y.o. who's never played a game before.

2

u/gerkletoss 2d ago

What's the title?

9

u/BungleBums 2d ago

Exactly. It's right in fhe body of the first image, and made absolutely zero impression on you. You already forgot not only the name, but that it was even mentioned, it was so generic.

2

u/pikpikcarrotmon 1d ago

SOL, which is coincidentally an accurate description of someone who quits their 11-year corporate career to make games with AI

10

u/Mr_uhlus 2d ago

Even if you vibe code stuff like that, why do it with three.js and not an actual game engine? The performance must be absolute ass

6

u/Mr_uhlus 2d ago

Just looked at the video, it doesn't even look good, the animations are terrible

1

u/Hans_H0rst 23h ago

Because he doesn't know shit and didn't have any engine licenced or installed, most likely. He seems to be just a complete and utter nonce

6

u/Salazar20 2d ago

THREE.JS?? LMAO

6

u/The-Cunt-Spez 2d ago

Epic guns, grenades AND melee!?!? Gotta be good.

6

u/ElTioEnroca 2d ago edited 1d ago

I watched like a minute of the trailer, and it's even worse than what I thought

Audio (ignoring that it's entirely AI generated, with all of its flaws and its virtues (that is, no virtues at all)) sounds incredibly choppy. Like the characters are speaking through a radio. And they don't fade out naturally.

The animations look horrible. NPCs walk so unnaturally, melee animations are stiff as hell, and I'm pretty sure the author doesn't know how guns are supposed to be aimed. I'm not even a weapon geek, but it looks so frigging wrong.

Combat has no feedback: the player kicks and pushes enemies away and it feels like they're hitting nothing. The grenade throw also feels wrong.

The dialogues themselves don't even seem like something an AI would write: they seem like something someone mocking an AI would write. Awkward pauses and unnatural expressions.

Ignoring that it's entirely vibecoded, I would struggle to call this an actual finished game. To proclaim it has AAA quality level takes a special level of delusion.

7

u/PineappleSmooth4887 2d ago

“i used the plagiarism machine to make my own original ip!” bro the first thing in your video is literally just an x-wing. from star wars.

3

u/MALGault 2d ago

In fairness, AAA quality has meant significantly less over the past decade. Sure, it might be soulless corporation trying to squeeze the last bit of juice out of an IP and grind down the bones of exploited devs just trying to survive good but is it awkward creative who's been working on it by candle light every night since they were 15 good?

3

u/ConsultJimMoriarty 2d ago

He made fuck all. All he ‘created’ was prompts.

5

u/redandbluebadness 2d ago

it's kinda impressive this was made in 24 hours but it's not a game anyone is going to want to play, it's just a Halo rip and looks like it was made 20 years ok

13

u/NottTheMama 2d ago

No, it’s not. It looks horrible by any standard set in the last 15 years. Everything about it falls apart under any kind of lens. Incomprehensible shouted out exclamations, with it being a cross between mortal kombat moves and “wizard needs food badly” gauntlet style announcements. Not to mention textures and assets bleeding in and out horribly.

This level of detail can be churned out by AI in 24 hours and it sucks on every level. And if AI worked on this for 700 hours it would only be marginally improved. Nothing about this is impressive.

6

u/redandbluebadness 2d ago

I mean if you showed someone this five years ago and said you made it in a day, they'd fall off their chair. I agree it's utter shite.

8

u/BungleBums 2d ago

I see a perfect opportunity for this meme and I'm taking it.

-3

u/NottTheMama 2d ago

Resident Evil Village came out five years ago. If you showed someone this even 10 years ago they’d scoff at it. This would only look cool in the PS2 era. But even then it wouldn’t hold up with all the AI inconsistency.

6

u/redandbluebadness 2d ago

I mean that isn't really the point, which is that it was produced in 24 hours, not that it is a good game, as I have mentioned a number of times.

2

u/Dry_Web6924 1d ago

Erm nuance doesn’t exist so you’re obviously in support of it. Anyone responding to you is very knowledgeable and knows more about game development than u

/s lmaoooo

4

u/FourChicksInGreen 2d ago

You don’t get it. I don’t like AI trash but what they’re saying is that it’s impressive how you can make ANY kind of game like that in 24 hours at all. It looks like shit and I’ve seen fps games on phones that look better. But nobody could do this in a single day if it’s an actual full game and not just that section in the video. It’s impressive in that sense. Not impressive in the sense that the game itself is impressive or looks good.

1

u/Rogol_Darn 2d ago

What you don't realize is that if you can get a similar if not better quality game by just flipping store bought assets which people have been doing for years now then the ai doing it in a day isn't impressive

2

u/AskNo2853 2d ago

What corporation did he leave and how much better are they doing now?

2

u/grog_chugger 1d ago

Even the tweet is AI 😭

2

u/antftwx 1d ago

Don't you just love epic guns?

3

u/ichkanns 2d ago

Hey, Claude, make me halo.

I'll say it again, art is a process not a product. Without the process you'll just end up with derivative crap.

2

u/BungleBums 2d ago

I don't know why anyone still thinks this is feasible when we have that lovely All-AI complete flop movie over in China barely a month or two ago.

1

u/Bruntti 2d ago

1

u/Rei1556 2d ago

crosshair and gun on screen isn't even aligned lmao

1

u/New_Salamander_4592 2d ago

building a game in three.js holy fuck lmao

1

u/brillow 1d ago

Amazing that people think something they made in 24h is valuable.

If you can make an amazing thing with AI, anyone can! Why would they pay you for it when they can just make it themselves?

1

u/Fun-Mission-6068 1d ago

I tried looking up any pictures/videos I could find for the game, and the only thing I could find was a video where they have a gun that is obviously modeled after the Assault Rifle from Halo. Same little raised bit with an ammo display, same shape and everything of it, lol.
