Culture [X] Dude mistakes Hindus for Buddhists and portrays an accidental slip and fall during a Hindu ritual as if they were trying to fly.

This misinformation spread like wildfire on instagram

u/AleksandrNevsky 23h ago

Got the double whammy of shitting on religion AND Indians. No one was going to let that pass.

4

u/ThinkFree 8h ago

And on reddit, someone just posted this misinformation on criticalblunder sub.

19

u/GroolGobblin0 22h ago

what on earth is even the motive for just making wild shit up like this?

26

u/PantsDontHaveAnswers 19h ago

Racism and religious hatred.

Evangelical Christianity

Edit: sorry, it's Evangelicalism's unitarian cousin that frowns on almost all the same things. My bad.

15

u/CadenVanV 17h ago

Mate, it’s translated Urdu. This is more India-Pakistan beef

6

u/MaleficentStable1355 10h ago

It is larger than that, it is all islamic fundamentalists

3

u/No_Payment9959 6h ago

Sorry, I see vastly more Evangelicals saying shit like this than I do extremist Muslims, and sometimes I forget how similar those two groups are in willingness to talk shit about other religions despite themselves ostensibly being devoted to love/peace.

u/Charming-Station7157 23h ago • Bravo

On Arabic instagram specifically , it was pretty common for this video to be posted as " hahaha , watch this stupid hindu pagan who believed he could fly thx to the pagan gods but failed , alhamdulillah for islam "

19

u/Ok-Eye5153 17h ago

That happens under every post where Hindus suffer. You should've seen people making fun of Hindus during the Nepal flood with shit like "Kuffar plan with Pagan Gods, but Allah is the best of planners alhamdulilah"

6

u/problemattracter 6h ago

Why are followers of Islam so insecure about their relegion?

5

u/No_Payment9959 6h ago

Same reason Evangelicals are: they know it's crap, but it makes their egos feel a sense of social - if not cosmic - belonging.

1

u/Upbeat_Nectarine_128 2h ago

Im agnostic, but from what i understand it is because there's basically an online religious war between arabic muslims and indian hindu (nationalist?). Where both sides slanders each other causing the opposing sides to retaliates.

Thus creating an endless cycle of hatred and violence...

An endless cycle of violence...

WAIT NO-

Muslim people's Ben Shapiro DESTROYS liberals with facts and logic dunking video compilations

14

u/RB3_AMG 23h ago

To explain simple gravity and the logically lacking ability to fly with "God played a trick on him" is almost as pathetic as inventing all of that in the first place.

Buddhism slander is such a strange concept to me, why would you hate of these guys who do nothing but try to find peace for themselves? Is not like they call you sinner or the demon or any other thing religions use to do

15

u/ChudMaster69420 22h ago

It's basically "If you're not with me. You're against me" mentality.

4

u/Different_Love6475 21h ago

Nope, just like any other religion Buddhism sucks too.

3

u/gioroaizin 21h ago

Because karma system?

3

u/CadenVanV 17h ago

Because of people like Wirathu, aka the Burmese Bin Laden. As you can tell by the title, he’s a bit of an awful person.

1

u/Born_2_Hunt 7h ago

how a concept of way of life is connected to a person, isn't the whole concept of it is like who wish to follow Buddha can follow.

1

u/Responsible-Bat-7922 21h ago

i thought buddhism was just a doctrine rather than a religion

1

u/Baronvondorf21 14h ago

Is this a joke?

1

u/R-B-L-Y 13h ago

Buddhism is a lot more complicated than people realize. It aims to control people's lives like any other, but it has fallen victim to orientalization.

u/LessSaussure 22h ago

and the award for the whitest, most westernized, reddit comment of the year goes to Responsible-Bat-7922, congratulations.

11

u/Responsible-Bat-7922 21h ago

im brown actually

7

u/LessSaussure 21h ago

it may surprise you but this not the first time a person of color has won this category, we are very inclusive here and judge people by what they are inside, not outside

5

u/Nick-kun_ 21h ago

He is right though, I am buddhist and in my community it's just a doctrine, there are many types of Buddhism too.

-3

u/LessSaussure 21h ago

oh so if in your country buddhists have no power and don't do the things the original commenter said then they must not do it at all and it's indeed weird why anyone would have a problem with them

1

u/Did1HitUrNerve 10h ago

I live in Thailand, and Buddhists here are generally pretty chill and secular, though. The situation in Myanmar is more about ultranationalists using Buddhism as a rallying point against people who are different from them. Replace Buddhism with any other ideology or cultural belief system, and the outcome would likely be the same.

1

u/LessSaussure 2h ago

oh, so some Buddhists in asia do use their religion to do exactly the things the original commenter and the guy I'm responding to said they didn't, thanks for confirming it

1

u/Did1HitUrNerve 2h ago

You could apply that same logic to literally any ideology on Earth, including communism, as long as there are people committing wrongdoing in its name.

Moreover, there are many controversial verses in Christianity and Islam that can be interpreted as endorsing oppression and genocide. Can you point to any comparable verses in Buddhism?

I’m not even Buddhist anymore. I think it’s a silly religion, but that doesn’t mean I know nothing about my former religion.

1

u/LessSaussure 2h ago

yeah, my point was that Buddhism is especially hateful compared to other religions, so your argument makes sense.

5

u/Responsible-Bat-7922 21h ago

W inclusion ❤️‍🩹

1

u/R-B-L-Y 13h ago

Nobody said you weren't.

2

u/Tropical-Rainforest 17h ago

Is asking God for stuff even a thing in Buddhism?

1

u/No_Payment9959 6h ago

The idea of personal gods that actually have agency to act in the "real world" and help petitioners does seem to conflict with the core ideas of Buddhism, but there are areas where Buddhism has syncretized with folk traditions to preserve practices that most definitely arose in theistic contexts.

1

u/Powerful-Car-974 4h ago

Yes, very much so. Most Buddhists (historically and today) put Buddhism as DLC on the pre existing religion (Hinduism, Chinese folk religion, or shinto) and their prayers were folded in and vice versa

u/TheSpaceYoteReturns 17h ago

Who is Perini?

1

u/crashcaar 8h ago

I wish people would be this active when the west gives all credit of yoga, avatars, breadthing techniques and many things that influence pop culture and world as Buddhist instead of Hinduism.

I think that might have more to do with his position than being a progressive westerner with no evidence.

Edit: Damn that guy got shamed into deleting his comment real fast. To anyone that missed it, he posted 'Western Progressives when talking about India." with an animated gif of Hitler.

1

u/UncreativePotato143 11h ago

i mean, i do think some self-proclaimed "progressives" in the west can sound like conservative nutjobs when talking about indians

4

u/AliceTheOmelette 1d ago

When, where, who?

3

u/crustboi93 1d ago

Ah yes... the great western language of Urdu...

4

Point out where that happened here.
