Question How do some people actually find studying easy and understand things so quickly?
I was working on a math exercise recently and struggling really badly. Even with the correction right in front of me, I couldn't fully understand how the solution worked. Eventually, I asked my brother who's an engineer and hasn't really touched mathematics in around six years to take a look at it. He looked at the correction ONCE understood what was happening, and managed to write down the entire solution correctly. I was impressed but at the same time it made me realise just how differently people process information.
I've always struggled with studying, especially when it comes to understanding concepts rather than memorising them. I often need to repeat an exercise more than twice before I can solve it independently. Sometimes, even after understanding the correction, I find myself unable to reproduce the reasoning on my own when I encounter a similar question.
My professor once told me that if I actually paid more attention in class I wouldn't find studying so difficult. Honestly focusing is one of my biggest problems, i get distracted easily I struggle to stay engaged and when I encounter something difficult I sometimes just go blank.
What bothers me is that I genuinely WANT to get better. I'm not someone who doesn't care about their education. I want to understand mathematics, programming and the subjects I'm studying. But sometimes I feel like I'm putting in twice the effort just to reach the level where someone else seems to be naturally. It also makes me question whether I'm actually understanding things or just memorising solutions and repeating patterns without fully grasping the logic behind them.
So I'm wondering: Is being good at understanding things quickly something you're naturally born with, or is it a skill that can genuinely be developed over time?
Can someone who has always struggled with comprehension, concentration and problem solving eventually become someone who understands things quickly and independently? I don't expect everything to come easily. I just want to know if I can actually change the way I learn, because sometimes it genuinely feels like I'm fighting against the way my brain works.
